  • This episode of "It Happened Here: New Jersey" features the Paterson Silk Strike of 1913. The strike began when broad-silk manufacturers increased the loom assignments from two per weaver to four, causing 23,000 silk workers to shut down 300 mills and dyeing plants for five months. Strikers often rallied at the house of Pietro and Maria Botto in Haledon, New Jersey, just outside of Paterson. The Botto House is now the American Labor Museum.
"It Happened Here: New Jersey" is a production of Kean University, in partnership with the New Jersey Historical Commission. PCK Media is serving as producer of the series. Just visited Paterson for Mother's Day, drove the Mill Mile. Wish I had known about the Labor Museum at Botto House, I would have visited it. Lifelong, 2nd generation Labor Union Follower!
