Doina Meline of Romania was awarded $100,000 for breaking her own world record in the women's mile in this race. Her official time of 4:17.14 eclipsed her old record by 1.72 seconds, and it lasted for 26 years. She also broke the 1500m world record en route, recording 4:00.27.
