1400 unhoused people costing the city upwards of $250 million per year. Meanwhile the city has a little over 2500 "Registerd," short term rentals that it is collecting only $11.7 million per year in taxes. Properties that have historically been rented to the working class of this city. This is the root cause of the housing crisis in every American city. It is time to return the inner city housing back to the people of the city. Put an end to short term rentals.
The "Unhoused" are mostly druggies and drunks who refuse to stop their behavior. It would be cheaper to lock them up and force them into sobriety. Thumbs up on your suggestion as well, but that's only part of the solution. Druggies aren't just breaking the law buy using, they're also prostituting and pimping, burglarizing and thieving. Shoplifting grifting and engaging in basically scummy behavior. I work downtown, I see the filth every day and soft on drug, soft on crime policy is not helping anybody. Lock them up, and if their behavior continues keep locking them up until they either die in prison or they choose to get sober and decent. If it's not costing us in taxes, it's costing us in property losses and the associated violent crimes.
We also need to make sure that more people can get to more places to bring more funding to transit… regardless of whether afferent areas want it or not. Because we are paying for those affluent people at this point.
The scum and filth are using that cheap transit to rob more affluent areas. The gangs and thugs are making that transit unsafe. Let's instead get more cops on the street to eradicate thugs and filth. No More Handouts!
If you’re homeless and constantly being arrested I tend to think you may decide to relocate to a more liberal and tolerant city .. What did Tom Sowell say ? .. There are no “ solutions “ only trade-offs ..
How exactly does a homeless or incarcerated person 'relocate'? These individuals spend the bulk of their day looking for a bathroom, something to eat and where they are going to sleep that night. They aren't sitting around, analyzing the political climate of which city they are going to hop on a bus and relocate to so they can be homeless there instead.
Let's also hold individuals accountable! Punish drug use, crime, no free rides! Most junkies want to live a immoral life! Is it a crime to make a mess of the community? Progessive means waste and woke! Solve the problems no excuses!!
You got that right, that's exactly what idiot Johnston has in mind for us. Handouts for druggies and thugs, enabling more druggie and thug behavior. Johnston should spend a couple years renting an apartment on Colfax around Race st. I bet after a couple years he'll change his socialist thinking around.
When I was growing up public intoxication, drug use, and public indecency was illegal, so I don't know what the fuck this dude is talking about that it's illegal to arrest people for this.
That said he's better than the defund the policers, but democrats have an awful track record, but you idiots won't give the republicans a chance. But you'll complain about the crime and tents endlessly.
Being homeless isn't a crime. Pay attention, and stop casting your inaccurate ideas about homeless people out there to perpetuate your sick, judgemental and flat out wrong ideas of homelessness.

After watching this interview... I think he's got the smarts and gumption to get things done which will greatly benefit Denver.
yes he wanted sanctuary city, putting illegals in hotels and his friend eric adam in ny just kick student out of school to house illegals
He wants to make Colorado like California.

Embrace homelessness and get rewarded with a free house ..
Whenever a politician says he can solve something they’re a fraud .. I would prefer he say he wants to improve the situation ..
But that’s how they get hired , even though they can’t do everything they say people are not smart enough to figure that out
He sounds performative af. Such a big head.
How many beds are located in 2 pods Mike? Are we including MAT SUD treatment?
"progressive values" sure hope he doesn't mean like Boulder, where the Council will overturn the will of the voters to do what they want...

Tag and bag the dopefiends. A lot of them expect hand outs and prey on the weak. I live on the streets because the cost is high.
