    I fitted my mod to the first of my Light Sixers successfully enough. The difference in picture quality was apparent, I'm pretty happy with it. Many thanks.
    One tip for modders; if you reassemble the 2600 and find that you have a B&W picture, dont disassemble the unit and check your soldering and cable routing.....check that the "Color/B&W" switch is set to "Color" first :)

    The better install tip is to measure which pin on the TIA chip is ground and line that up with ground on the cleancomp. On my console the notch on the chip was on the opposite side of Luke's when having it oriented to be readable. Those so many dang revisions of these boards!

    wow....just saw this now! I was looking a long time for a quality mod. Since the mod from Tim Worthington is no more available I had to go with the UAV-mod from the Brewing Company. It works fine, but yours would have been a lot easier to install and also cheaper, since the audio is included. Too bad I was late to see this. I'm coming back in the future! Nice products in your shop!!

    Whilst I have moved on to RGB Video gaming. I will say this, You did a excellent job on this mod. :) Job well done.
    So this is on a PAL 2600 Junior, right? If it helps. I remember doing a simple minor mod on the actual motherboard that will improve to show the pixels a bit better Especially light colour pixels on a black BG ). It's got to do with changing a resistor on R31 that traces to Pin 6 of the TIA chip. From what I read up on eTim's website for a RGB mod in this particular console revision. When Atari manufactured the PAL Atari 2600 juniors. They made a error with the resistor value as they places a 10K resistor by mistake where it should be a 3.3K. I gone and ndone that before RGB Modding mine and tested it, it has significantly improved the pixel volumes better.
    Hope this minor detail helps if you want to go ahead it it. Just optional.
    That's so good to see another useful video mod for the 2600 around. :)

    So I originally tried this a couple of weeks ago and coudn't get it to work. However I tried it again on an Atari 2600 Junior and It just works! and I must say I'm pretty impressed. So much so that I will be buying another one very shortly. One question though, Is there any scope for a version for the Atari7800?

    Hey pal. I'm thinking about buying this one, but you mentioned the interference regarding the power source. You mentioned you tested on all sorts of Atari models. I have an officially licensed Brazilian "Vader" model, made by Polyvox that has an internal power supply and I'm worried that this could cause interference since the TIA is fairly close to the power supply. Have you ever tested this mod in one of these Brazilian models? Mine has a UM6526N TIA.

    Can we get more info on the stereo audio mod for NTSC, specifically on the light sixer? I'm not seeing anywhere the left and right pins are connected.

    • @RetroSix
      @RetroSix  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The console joins both channels so you have to cut the join then seen each left and right out separate. However most games only send audio out of one channel so really it needs some additional logic or manual switch to mix channels back together for unsupported games. I've not done much more investigations other than that so far

    Very interesting. Is it possible to make an svideo chip for nes than an expensive nesrgb kit?

    • @Controllerhead
      @Controllerhead 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, native S-video for the NES is a no go sadly. The 2C02 video chip generates Luma and Chroma directly inside of it, so there are no pins or external places to grab that signal. It's unfortunate.

  • @etgripper
    @etgripper ปีที่แล้ว

    This is great, I'm hoping to retire composite video from my av setup but the 2600 and the NES are the pain points. This seems quick and easy (for someone lazy like me) for the NES I may just go with a composite to S-video adapter just to ger rid of the composite switches. I'll keep an eye out for the new revision.

    Hello, I emailed your support address a question which sent an auto reply that it had moved to discord, but I do not use discord and just wanted to make sure this was seen.
    I have a 4 switch NTSC unit with the upside down TIA chip, and the text is upside down but there is a 1 cm rectangular cutout on the left instead of the right. I have never seen a notch like this on a chip before, and the other 2 chips have their notches on the right. How should I orient the CleanComp when looking at the back side of the board oriented normally with the cartridge slot above the chips, does the mod go right side up per the instructions at 2:24 to match the notch, or upside down to match the instructions at 1:39 to match the text?
    Thanks!

    • @RetroSix
      @RetroSix  ปีที่แล้ว

      Check which corner is ground on the TIA using a multimeter then solder the ground pad of CleanComp in that orientation

    • @agentmith
      @agentmith ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RetroSix yeah that’s what I was planning on doing if I didn’t hear back, I was just looking up pinouts now. My hunch is that since all the chips are upside down, the notch/cutout is not an indicator. Thanks.

      @@RetroSix ok so I installed it today, and after powering it on I got no picture or telltale flicker that video was working. After a minute or so of testing the cart and switches, the large cap on the input power exploded. I’m not really sure what to do now, I replaced the cap already and know it was good, and I was getting a picture from the transistor mod even though it wasn’t correct. Im using the original Atari power supply, everything else should be fine but it does still have all the disconnected components required from the transistor mod. Has this happened to anyone else? I can send more photos if that helps. I do know how to solder so I doubt I did anything incorrectly, and it was working before the mod.

    • @RetroSix
      @RetroSix  ปีที่แล้ว

      No that's never happened. Jump on discord.gg/RetroSix and upload install photos so I can see. Perhaps something is wired wrong

    • @agentmith
      @agentmith ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RetroSix Sorry I don’t use discord. This morning I ended up replacing the cap again and the RF components, refurbished the RF modulator, removed the cleancomp mod, and tried to connect to the TV using RF and it worked fine so I’m assuming something was faulty with the mod board itself as I’m reasonably certain it was installed correctly, but I don’t know what would cause the cap to blow. I removed as much solder as I could but tore some of the mods solder pads off when removing it due to solder down below the top of the board where I couldn’t reach, so I can’t really try it again. I’ll just have to table this for now and try to figure something else out.

    ? Its an elegant solution and a nice PCB..... but I honestly cannot tell any improvement over the basic single transistor composite mod?! The picture is still very soft and blurry with edge artifacts... so, other than ease of install.... how is this solution superior to the cheap and nasty single transistor mod, which incidentally is not effected by switch mode power supplies (which pretty much every one uses these days)?
