I like how the narrator tells us what we've literally just watched three times already. "He dove out of the way with seconds to spare." Yeah we know, you already showed several times.
Yeah, he was annoying. Also I had to speed up the audio because of the way he - kept - spreading - out - his - words.
I kinda like this way of doing things. Let people watch the clip for themselves, then give it context, rather than talking over the whole clip like some compilations do. Though, it would be nice if the narrator added something other than the most basic description of what just happened.

@@blakerh Just random chance I guess. I've been on 3 flights that had to abort a landing either right after touchdown or about 100 feet above the runway due to wind gusts. Twice in Phoenix and once in Amsterdam.

I've been in a vehicle that was hit by lightning, and the bang it made was probably the loudest sound I've ever heard. I think everyone on that plane crapped themselves.
Me too, not only was it deafening I was briefly blinded and had to stop for a few minutes until I could see again.

Re: Sprite lightning... IIRC it WAS speculated that it might have brought down (or damaged) planes, but it forms above most jets maximum flight level. Later on, after visual analysis of impacts of lightning on planes, it became 'positive' lightning that was thought to be the culprit. Positive lightning being more powerful than regular 'negative' lightning, and much less common.
Yes. I believe it occurs at much higher levels in the atmosphere. Above 41000 feet
As someone who has seen videos of planes being hit by lightning and has also had lighting strike in extremely close proximity before (within like 40 ft.) you _ABSOLUTELY_ would notice the plane getting struck by lighting. First off, lightning is _insanely_ loud, to the point where when I had lightning strike near me, I was inside a building and despite that I went temporarily deaf for about an hour. Secondly, based on videos I've seen, the sheer force of the lightning hitting the plane will make it instantly drop a couple dozen feet. It would be hard to miss.
Planes are well insulated. It won't be that loud. Compare a spooled up jet engine from outside and then inside. Massive difference. You'll hear it, but it won't be like being outside or in a building. No amount of electricity moving through the skin of a jetliner will make it drop any amount of feet. Electricity will have essentially no effect on the density of the air for which the plane is moving through.

With the C-17 flying between buildings, the winglets which are the little pieces on the end of each wing that stick straight up, are 17 feet tall from bottom to top if that gives you an idea on size.

Lightning comes from the ground up at least the part we can see the part that starts in the clouds is a negative pathway that heads toward yours but you don't see that you see the rebounds when the positive energy goes back up Google it if you want
I’d rather be in a plane than a boat in those conditions. Planes get fly up above storms or away a little bit, but for boats it’s nearly impossible. Plus I won’t feel a plane death compared to the slow one of drowning.
Never had the problem where we had to touch and go again but I was on a plane on a bright sunny summer day with a 5 mile an hour wind and we took off and went right around the circle and landed again and they went and did 3 hours where the work on an engine and then they put us all back on the same plane that was a little nerve-racking

The pilot did that very touch-and-go many times before he flew his first solo in any plane. They drill go-arounds because it’s much safer if there’s doubt. A pilot isn’t shamed by that.
I used to be a flight instructor and would always tell my students “If you’re not absolutely sure you can land, go around”…So many accidents have happened because someone is impatient, takes 5 mins to go around.
@@ryanhampson673 Bingo! If it's not safe, try it again. Some places may take longer than 5 mins, but I'd rather be in the air for an extra 20 than any other outcome... And since go-arounds are basically no-fault now for most airlines (exactly for the reason of impatience) it made flying safer. Of course, you still have to weigh whether or not a potential unsafe landing is still safer than a go around (no fuel, aircraft damage...). It's still a balance.
I remember working with a girl whose boyfriend was in construction and a story she told me reminded me of that last clip. She said there was an accident where an entire concrete wall fell right on top of a guy at the work site and there wasn't much left of the guy afterward. What a terrible way to go.
Friend of a friend was working construction and fell off a 2nd story roof, lasted about a week after.

I had a similar experience at Logan airport in Boston many years back, but it was not wind it was another plane in the way so we shot pretty much straight up.
Thankfully we were in a smaller 120 seat plane (jet) and it seemed to get up quick.

I always sit by the window seat on an airplane and watch the ground as we're about to land. I've had one experience where we were just about to touch the ground and the pilot took off again. It was a strange sensation watching the ground coming closer and then immediately drop away. I know it was for safety reasons (it was also a very cloudy day with limited visibility) but I wanted off the plane so badly at that point and was just annoyed. When you lose your place in line flying into a large city you don't get to jump ahead and between going around and getting back in line it was almost 40 minutes later before we landed.
I live near Canada's largest military base. The stuff we see on a daily basis...

It's unlikely that sprites or ghosts (the rare upward lightning thing) could down a plane. Not only are they extremely rare to observe, they only occur EXTREMELY high up.
It's probably just positive lightning, which is more powerful and rarer but not uncommon.
I've been on an airplane struck by lightning. You barely feel anything but you absolutely hear the sonic boom lol. It will be the loudest sound you will probably ever hear in your life.
While serving in the U.S. Coast guard we had something similar happen with rogue waves and random storms that would pop up near the bahamas and haiti and dominican republic scariest thing in the world. out of nowhere its clear then all a sudden pitch black and storms tossing your ship and wiping the decks and bridge nonstop.
Add a few Lovely British "Birds" to your crew It'll pump up your viewership!!

For number 6, the plane is a globemaster. I once got to see 6 flying over my house in formation. Was like wtf is that noise? Turned out to be 1 billion dollars flying over my head. It was a site to see.
Unless they got cheap ones...it was closer to 2 Billion flying over your head! lol.
Guessing they'd be visible for about 5 mins (location dependant) you also saw them burn off about $12,000 worth of fuel!

@3:30 I agree with Daz, If the plane crashes instant death, if you get turn off the boat or something you’ll be doing good survive probably 2030 minutes out there and you’ll drown. How much are the die instantly hitting the ground it 1000 miles an hour then to sit there and drown for 15-20 minutes
I somewhat get this reasoning but plummeting to the earth from 30,000 ft is not instant and you’re not guaranteed to die instantly on impact. So basically you’re screaming your head off with a bunch of other people as you speed toward the ground and you might survive in some horrible twisted broken form for a few minutes afterwards. Drowning as I understand it is fairly quick and is preceded by losing consciousness, which seems like it would hurt less.There’s also the idea of extending your life as long as possible since you never know what could happen. If a boat sinks you maybe could find debris from the wreckage to float on. If your plane fails, you can’t hang out on a cloud waiting for another plane to stop and pick you up.

I am a huge fan of Big Jet TV for months now, seen some hairy things happen live, unfortunately I live on the US west coast so he comes on about 3 am!
Most modern aircraft are made of layers of composite materials that aren't conductive. Mechanical and Human errors are the usual culprits for issues.
My Dad was a lifelong commercial aviator. Planes DO get hit by lightening from time to time. More concerning for pilots are wind sheers. He's told of flying "into a wall of wind" that is terrifying!
"Microburst Downdrafts" are also a nightmare for Pilots!!

I'm near G5 Galaxy base in Washington State and see them daily. The tall buildings were on one side of the plane and was above the rooftops on the other side. Wasn't even close.

I am a frequent flyer and I love flying. But I was once on a flight from Dallas (DFW) to Seattle (SEA) where we hit severe turbulence that lasted for an hour. We kept changing altitude, but the flight was the rockiest flight I have ever been on. Now, despite the fact I know that planes can handle huge stresses, I really hate turbulence.
I use to travel a lot to re-model Best Buy stores, even though my boss was against it, and turned the other cheek, I'd go on the plane with an alcohol buzz just to "escape"
Turbulence is what put me off flying.. Not been on a plane since and that was over 15 years ago now
ill never understand why when ppl have locked up breaks, they decide to continue locking up the brakes. at that point, give it some gas and straighten back out!!

That was never going to happen. 17:44 All of the wheels on the trailer are turning freely while the trucks wheels are locked up. They have a 4 ton truck trying to stop a 400 ton trailer without brakes from going downhill. If all the wheels were working together and braking when the truck braked it would have been no problem. Judging by the extra truck chained off to the back, I'm guessing, they knew they had an issue with the brakes.

I'd rather be in a plane that does a go-around than in one that attempts an unstabilized landing. Go-arounds show the pilot is safety conscious and would rather give it a second go instead of hurrying to get on the ground regardless.

That 2nd video isn’t unbelievable at all. I live right by a Military base and they have planes that size and bigger taking off and doing maneuvers everyday by me and I live in a big metro area. I don’t really see what is so unbelievable about that having to see it everyday myself. People must not get out much if they think that is unbelievable.

#5 was not an "unbelievable moment". Landing in high winds _always_ rocks a jetliner from side to side, and I'm sure the pilot was _already_ getting ready to wave off if necessary. People just don't understand avionics, and panic over the slightest thing. Pilots review these clips all the time and always laugh when "narrators" start talking about the "life threatening" situation that _doesn't_ exist.
Well, in all honesty none of them are truly "unbelievable" moments. Harrowing, yes, but these are actually normal dangers of each profession that those involved are trained to deal with.

I was there, and everyone knows it was a rehearsal so i go then, because the Riverfire festival is always packed... when i first moved to Australia, for the festival they would low level passes by F-111s. that was a sight to see

Yeah the pilot knows what he's doing but everyone makes a mistake and you are literally sitting next to gallons of highly flammable fuel on either side of you way up in the sky. It's highly unnatural and tons of things can go wrong.
