I must find out what it did at the box office because I watched it last night for the first time (not the last) and it was a wonderful uplifting, funny, tragic complex story that gripped me totally. I hope it got the recognition it deserves. Dustin Hoffman did a terrific job on direction (his first, really?) as did the editor. The thing he captured about performers is that they never give up on life, and that's my experience of actors too. No matter how old they are they're mostly always in pre production even if nothing comes off!
I enjoyed the movie, but wish I could have seen the quartet singing, rather than just hearing the audio. Even showing the faces of the audience while they sang at the end would have been better than watching an outside image of the big home.
