  • Have you ever seen those weird alien looking snorkel masks and wondered what they were all about? This is the video for you. I'm an experienced SCUBA diver and snorkeler and took this mask on a trip to Hawaii to give it a full test. Check it out!

Full face masks are great. Make sure it has a new fresh air valves and enjoy the awesome clarity, easy breathing, all while not drinking saltwater and chewing on a chunk of rubber at like a dentist visit for several hours which makes you a cranky diver apparently.

      Sure if you are snorkling.
Using it for freediving? Sure if you dont appreciate life....
If you drinking saltwater and chewing your snorkle to pieces you doing something terribly wrong...

    • @IdiocracySpace

If anyone does freediving they’re pretty much a “fish” to begin with and confident underwater.
This is simply a much improved beginner friendly snorkel that has low level parameters of use - that may have advanced models now or later. But this is much more enjoyable for beginners in beginner conditions. If you are experienced enough to snorkel in challenging environments then you already know if this is for you or not since you shouldn’t put yourself where you need a snorkel to begin with. So again, this is revolutionary for introducing new snorkelers to the wonders of surface swimming and breathing without the discomfort of a traditional snorkel.
I get that this “informative” video was meant to alert people to the real dangers of open water swimming equipment but it obviously turned into a slanted hit piece from a diver’s perspective to surprisingly dismiss this innovation, instead of truthfully informing casual snorkelers of their options and so I’m calling it out.

I've been snorkeling for many years. I still go to the traditional set up. But the full mask,is good in shallow water I say ideal 5 to 15 feet of water just cruising around checking out the fish. It took at least an hour to get used to it.

I took mine to the Florda keys and it was perfect. Did not experience the pain the you described. I like to float on the surface with a noodle and just float face down. The only thing i noticed that you talked about was that my forehead was warmer than if I had used goggles but that was it. So I took it off once in awhile. I am not as hung up on how I looked in it or what it looked like as much as you seem to be and dont really care what other people think. People did have some interest in what I was wearing but was more of the "what is that new cool gadget you have that I have not seen before" interest. So I showed them and they thought it was really cool.

All this is fine and good, but if you're going to get one of these be sure to get one made by a manufacturer who makes diving/snorkeling equipment as their main business. There are several reports of people getting in trouble, even dying from ones without the one way air valves built in. Mares and Aqualung for example are quality brands.

Time for an updated review, issues with CO2 and ear equalization have been addressed with newer models, just stay away from cheap Chinese knockoffs, spend the extra 20 bucks and get a good one from a company that did the R&D and you will have the best snorkeling ( not diving) experience you ever had

Awesome review , I've been scuba diving for 30 years now and love trying new equipment . The full face masks are fun for the surface floating around but like you said diving down just is not a good idea. Also the fit is very important just like the good regular masks. As far as Co2 I believe there should be more research done. With breathing all the way out then breathing all the way in I cannot see there being a problem. Have a Good Safe time and keep on diving.

I got an Aria full face mask, highly rated. They are not meant for diving, swimming, exercise, or other strenuous activities. Snorkel with a flotation device to conserve energy and you will be fine....float in the water and enjoy the view. Full face masks are not perfect but it beats gagging with a piece of rubber in my mouth.

FF mask are not meant for free diving. Pressure would make you feel that your face is being sucked, plus CO² build up. FF mask are good for about 10-15 minutes use.

    • @peterking2651
      @peterking2651 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Provided you’re pendulum breathing CO2 isn’t a concern, also if you’re breathing the pressure equalizes, so no mask stuck to the face. When you dive down it’s the same as any mask, a small puff of air equalizes the mask.

I have full face mask and I have normal mask for snorcheling. Full face mask is good if you don't dive. You just want to watch underwater life from surface. But I am diving so normal mask is better for me. If I would dive with full face mask 10 meters down it will be really dangerous. Deeper you go more you will feel presure on your face. And if you will dive with full face mask maybe 3-4 meters it will be uncomfortable. For me rather classic mask.

NOBODY should buy those full face masks.
Aside from the fact that they DO tend to fog up, distort vision due to the curvature, cause a face squeeze when you dive down because they can't be equalized, and just generally prevent you from equalizing - they have been involved in several snorkling deaths probably due to CO2 buildup due to bad ventilation. These gimmicks further tend to encourage inexperienced people to go beyond their limits - with no idea of how to get themselves out of trouble in case of a gear failure - hence the deaths.
As an aside - you are NEVER supposed to dive down with a snorkle in your mouth - if you faint due to shallow water blackout the snorkle will shoot a jet of water down your throat and fill your lungs as soon as the pressure goes.
Finally they are not made from tempered glass and silicone which are the industry standards. ELastomer will break down much sooner in the salt and sun, and we use tempered glass because, when properly treated it virtuall NEVER fogs up.
