2 generations of Marcos have now sat in the cab of an LRT1 trainset, Marcos Sr in the 1st Gen and Grand Opening of LRT1, and Marcos Jr in the 4th Gen and soon to be Cavite Extension.
I find it very strange that a country as small as Belgium would take part in such a huge undertaking. Is there anyone from the Philippines who knows why President Marcos did not instead enlist the help of Japan, or the US in constructing this kind of project?
Yes they did. LRT was initially financed by the Belgian government. The contractor was philippine national construction corp. with the assistance of a swiss company and a US based company. A big sum of loan was given to the philippines by different foreign entities.
Belgium gave an interest-free loan running for 30 years. 4 Belgian companies were involved. ACEC supplier of substation and traction equipment. Bn supplier of rolling stock. TEI supplier of the overhead powerline. TRACTEBEL design and supervision of the sky track in co-operation with CDCP. So Belgium was supportive of its own industry. There are more Km of rail tracks in Belgium 3.700km, for 10.000.000 inhabitants than in Japan 30.000km for 125.000.000 inhabitants. We know something about rail business.😃😃😃
Before Japan and U.S are now currently help of the project like Subway. Belgium is the first finance by the Belgian Government in 1980's then MRT 3 by the Czech Republic-Filipino finance bid in 1998

One of the best legacy of the Marcoses that stood time and very beneficial to the Filipinos. And now the Extension of LRT1.👍👍👍
The 1984 trains are still in service.
Not anymore, they seem to have been all replaces by the 4the gen rail cars.

It should be the First Manila subway but due Floods and Politics they chose LRT 1
Its obvious Marcos did a lot of shit wrong.
