Interesting, after a while I found it seemed a bit basic. For example, I found it much more helpful to split the forehead plane into 3 parts like the secondary or asaro head - I think it helps more with angles/ perspectives or even details. Primary planes are a good start but I agree, subdivisions definitely make shading easier :)

I think primary planes are enough for drawing. Further subdivisions are good for simulating light and shadows
