IN the wikipedia article I just looked up it said they flew 330s and 340s on far-east asia(which is where we flew), in 2007, and sounds about right for when we flew with them, "2007-ish". Anyway, it was a wide-body plane with those winglets. : )
I counted only three, two united and one British Airways. The three larger aircraft at the beginning of the vid were all 767. The main difference that you can see is that on the 767s the rear wheels are 2 sets of 2, while the triple seven has 3 sets of 2. the other difference is the shape of the APU exhaust, the 767's is more round.
Logicalorb, departures from runway 19C, the European bound ones make what is essentially a 270 degree turn to the right, up towards the "Wooly" intersection west of Baltimore then to their east coast and European routings. Most of the Dulles vectoring airspace is to the west of the airport due the presence of Reagan Washington National airport which has its vectoring airspace between Dulles and BWI. This is similar to LGA being between Newark and Kennedy in the New York area. For European departures in the north operation at Dulles they mainly use runway 1R and 30, vectoring northbound towards the Wooly intersection. Most Dulles aircraft being vectored to the east of the airport most likely will be downwind landlings to 1R or to 19L at relatively low altitudes.
Daily Parking Garage 2 Level 5 huh? Do you have to pay to get there? I've been going to KDCA (Ronald Reagan) just cause it's only about 30 minutes from home and for the past few months my friend and I have been trying to find other airports, preferably international. We didn't think Dullas had any good spots but this is a beautiful angle
The Lufthansa Boeing 747-400 has gone to Frankfurt, the KLM Airbus A330-300 has gone to Amsterdam, and the Austrian Airlines Boeing 767-300ER has gone to Vienna.
Well it looks like its N769UA 12th off the line 5th delevired judjing by the paint job and the wear as there is a 777 i went from Dulles to Munich and it has the Old Blue Rising livery and has that tail number (above).
is there anybody know which mode of the first showed aircraft(AUSTIRA AIRLINE)???????? it seems like B737-900,BUT the maximum flight range of B737-900 is 6000KM,shorter than the distance between Wahshington DC and Viena.
I'll be heading to DC and would love to use my 70-200 IS at Dulles. Would anyone care to share what or where would be the best place to spot and take pictures. I already been to Udvar hazy FYI
@4223037 I am a local aircraft photographer here in VA, MD and DC. I have been all over Virginia and Maryland photographing aircraft. This location is on the Daily Parking Garage 2 Level 5. Here aircraft are operating on South Ops (RWY 19). If you have any questions feel free too send me an e-mail/message here on youtube.
This is my favorite United livery, not too crazy about the current scheme with the Continental design on the tail.
This could quite possibly be the best aircraft spotting video on the internet.
Love this video - not many evening spotting videos, and I think I prefer them. You have the best plane spotting videos!
Great catch on the Austrian 767. And those huge winglets! Thanks for sharing a great video with us. I look forward to seeing lots more. Jack
The sight of a United plane in the dark with the Tulip lit up on the tail is awesome.
I was in Washington DC. It's the most beautiful city in the world I've ever seen!
Beautiful light you've captured here. Lovely.
Very nice compilation of departures!
Love the 747-400 at 8:30! Great video! Thanks for posting!
Those are some beautiful colour chords at Dulles Airport
Yap I agree. Warm summers and not so cold winters. I lived there for six years, and I never wanted to leave that place.
I miss being a UAL employee at IAD, definitely don't miss the G gates. Thanks for posting!

@airshowfansh That's not bad, I'll surf around see if I can find a definite price, how'd you out about this spot anyway?

Amazing quality mate, thumbs up.

very happy that Austrian will be coming back to Chicago soon. but i still need to come here to get SAA sometime.
haha nice! the approach pattern is right over my house and i log every plane that flies over from my backyard. and im in Pennsylvania!
@techfan2121 Yeah it can be. Holidays are guaranteed action times. In the summer I know this place is always flowing.
I Remember Watching This 10 Years Ago XD
Anyone else notice the lack of a nosewheel light on the Lufty hunchback? Wonder what was up with that.
triple 7 is such a beauty
Those winglets are huge on the Austrian 767
Any idea where the United 777 that lifted off at 11:24 was going? That bird looked like he might have been carying some weight.
I could be wrong, but i think this spot is at the top level of one of the parking garages at Dulles.
I didn't know there was a good spotting area Dulles. Where Exactly are you standing?
austrian airlines! cool.I saw one flying pret-ty low over my house.I would say it was a 767 to dulles.Wild guess
oh and how did you get to listen in to the ATC radio trafic? I want to do that!
is this a austrian 767 with winglets??!!
Nice work and nice place to spot

Is there a better spotting area than going to the parking garage?
@DownShiftRecords My understanding is that it's $4 for every half hour, up to $17 for each day... don't quote me on it...
The last one was KLM
But Austrian has both 767,777 and 330 flying the distance I flew, but our's was a 330. The winglets are maybe smaller on the 330, though?: )
Is that a FedEx 727 at the bottom their at 2:07? It thought FedEx retired their entire 727 fleet?
That was an Austrian 330, no? Maybe I've been a passenger in that very plane then! Cool!:)
great vid !!!
I was at Washington Dulles in 1999
Nathan
Sunderland
UK
the last airplane was a KLM A330-300 right ?
Great video! Thumbs up!

For an international airport, it tends to have a quite alot of private jets and regional jets.
Cool video bro!!!
@ytbtoronto See Mega Plane Lovers response. 767 with winglets. Looked like a 737 until it came closer and saw the engines.
Why didn't some of the airlines respond back?
Well, the one we flew was a 330..or maybe 340..but it was some years ago, that's right.: )
Colgan 7826 going to BGM! My girl was on that flight, how cool.
I might be going there tomorrow
Awesome!! congrats
Yup, 11ft tall!
what camera??
is this a austrian 767 with winglets?!!
They put a tin open from B767-300's this time..... and all from United Airlines. BTW Beatiful planes. My favorite!!

Wish they had those 767's in Tampa :/
how did you get ATC?
KLM was 777??
@07airforce now Icelandair fly there too from May-January
Nice takeoff of the Q400!
Why the immediate right bank after lift off? Noise restrictions, wake turbulence airport tradition(lol)??? Somebody enlighten me please!
The 767 is more beautiful without winglets than with them
good video.
i wish united did keep the livery at 11:19 when the merge with continental.intead of the boring globe thing
Technically it isn't, it's a U, but everyone calls it the Tulip.
I guess this wasn't the day of die hard 2 ?
Nice! I subscribed!
Sadly its going away for the tired globe logo, thanks Continental:(
Why the other plane engine smoking
@perdiABBA Agreed.
