I would say the one thing missing that would make this video absolutely perfect is some slow mo for those visual learners. Some people get the verbal presentation others need visual and at the speed you're going it's impossible to see you go through each step.
At 25% playback speed you can see how Remy's aggressive move comes right at the lip. He carves and leans only slightly on the take-off in preperation. Front wheel initiates the crub and rear wheel follows off the lip. Upper body towards the front more than on a regular jump.
Sorry man, but guys were doing the scrub WAY before James Stewart in the early 80's. I was at the tracks when Mike Brown was only 17 learning them. Bubba got it televised.
Love the third person footage to appreciate style speed and size of the jumps. Watching this I find myself thinking that riding Whistler is of course awesome but also so cool to see so many people ripping pros locals etc.
Great One! Always heard about "sucking" the jump to scrub...Would love to see a "How to berms" in the bikepark from you - for the not so advanced riders ;)
another tip: when you lay the bike on the takeoff, try to keep your upper body over the bike. this way you can lean the bike really far down while still beeing able to control it for the landing afterwards
Nice, we were scrubing bitd (80's) to stay low and get right back to a hard pedal on flat tracks.Never even knew there was a name for this technique. Thanks Remy.
I never realized this was for speed. I've heard on motorcycles it helps unload the suspension. I also feel like it helps with balance, setting up the landing.
Hey Remy! Awesome guide! I ride right foot forward and I prefer to punch with my left. I'm having hard time to do it the other way, somehow it just goes wrong. So all my scrubs goes the same direction 🙃
@@remymetailler I feel like pulling my right hand and let the rear and my hips kick to the right for a left handed turn would work. I noticed a lot of riders do it if they are still learning how to do a directional scrub.
Dang. Rarely and I mean REARY does your bike make a sound when you land. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be so smooth. Unfortunately for me I’m at an age (52) where progression isn’t really an option. Progression = crashing. It’s part of the game. And for me and my broken body it’s not really an option. 5 knee surgeries (same knee) so riding with fear is always in my head. Plus gravity is a bit@h and slamming is no fun. I do think riding /coaching with you I might have a chance. Do you coach? I’ve been a bike/ski patroller for coming up on 2 decades. So getting time off isnt a problem. I’m serious
Not sure anyone ever told this but the links don't work properly for people outside USA. So, could you please tell which hydration bsckpack you use... I liked to see in your back! Thank you Remy
Awsome video.. can u make a video about jumping? It might be 101 jumping but for me I know i can but as I approach the lip I get scared n press the brake. How can i overcome that? Thanks brotha
Salut Rémy ! Quand tu filmes des descentes et que l'on a ta pov, la go pro est fixé sur le casque au niveau du menton ? tu conseil quel casque pour ça et quelle fixation pour la gopro ? a+ rider !
Slow motion with voice over. In fact, more voice over in general needed. The purpose of the video is not to watch you talk but watch you do scrubs. Anyway keep up the good work!
Hey Remy - insightful video thanks! There's another trick you tend to do on your trail bike, kind of looks like a table with some style signature of a scrub, although the mechanics appear to be super different, could you offer some insight on it? (probably the broadest request you'll receive ever - I'll try to point a time mark in one of your videos)
This was helpful! However, It would be even more helpful to have a slow motion clip starting just before take off and going all the way to just after the landing with Remy doing a voice over of exactly what he’s doing thru every phase of the scrub. It’s so difficult to see what the rider is doing watching the video play back at full speed.
Hi Remy!!! I really enjoyed the video and I found It super helpful and interesting , i want to ask you if you can do a video about the whip which is of course a different movement , cheers!!!
Remy, I could be ignorant here, but what about Ricky Carmichael or even Jeremy McGrath? Those guys where whippin every lap way before Bubba Stewart even came on to the scene
Remy you should come to nelson bc for a video i am a big fan and i am thirteen and there is so much here in nelson for a video come check nelson out 😎😎
Interesting that it's called a scrub, normally scrubbing is referred to as a way of reducing speed whereas in this situation it's means of going faster
This is not a tutorial really. More like you talking about them and then just riding. Better explanation for those that don’t know how to even whip would be helpful too. Too much talking not enough showing
OOOPS that was supposed to go out tomorrow! For once I'm early! Hope you enjoy the video and give it a like!
Haha. Ooops!
I would say the one thing missing that would make this video absolutely perfect is some slow mo for those visual learners. Some people get the verbal presentation others need visual and at the speed you're going it's impossible to see you go through each step.
That's where the playback speed feature comes in handy!
If you use the "." and "," after pausing the video you can actually go frame by frame which is pretty useful

Super cool, and you triggered a dive learning all about James Stewart, which was also awesome. So cool to hear about where the scrub came from.
Fastest ever mx rider
It’s actually called the Bubba Scub. Bubba is Stewart’s nickname.
Ever since I saw that scrub drop from the Coast Gravity park edit I labelled Remy as the scrub god
I got this technique down. Super easy really. Only issue I have is to apply all this while in the air and not after I land...
Ahah
another tip: when you lay the bike on the takeoff, try to keep your upper body over the bike. this way you can lean the bike really far down while still beeing able to control it for the landing afterwards
Very good point. I should have mentionned it
@@remymetailler You mentioned keeping your body more a bit to the front than in a usual jump though, which is kind of similar.
I'll never learn it (54 year old pizza n' beer drinking architect), but it was fun to watch how it's done!
Your such a good rider….love watching you ride, so dope!!!
You make it look so easy and FUN!! Awesome video Remy. Us mortal people are trying to just clear the jumps :)
I witnessed this many times! Insane buddy!
Thanks buddy!
Watching you I thought the Propain bikes already come making whips and scrubs on their own. Imagine my surprise getting my new Spindrift..😂

Can you do a video of jumping in the wind I’ve seen you save the bike from getting swept a few times
super vidéo Rémy !
No way you finally uploaded this after telling me 3 years ago it’s coming really soon haha
Great tips Remi so clued in
Incroyable comme en dix ans le son de quincaillerie roulant que produisaient les vélos en descente a disparu!!!
Are you turning your bars enough to touch the top of your fork against the top tube when you punch with your right hand?
Yes exactly
Do you turn them anymore than that when you are on a single crown?
