Eric take a look at the Celebration Ostomy Support Belt. Will give superior parastomal support preventing leaks with a pocket supporting the weight of the pouch. This is a bet that is great.
Eric said he wore this on top of Hollister..but the manufacturer says to wear it against the flange..1) it is both difficult and precarious getting the Hollister rings through it..2) above the Hollister it is too small and slips left and right. Perhaps they changed dimensions in 2 years...and yes the ring was the correct size for the flange
Eric, based on your review, I purchased the Nu-Comfort belt because it is a simple answer to support of my ileostomy Hollister 2 pcs. bag. I would advise others to be careful to order the correct size belt and the ring even more so. Question, did you have any issues with the belt itself irritating the skin on your stomach? I was anxious, so I just put the belt on, and it works great, but it causes some irritation on the front of my stomach. Maybe I should have thoroughly cleaned the belt itself. I am wearing it 24/7. Thanks for your help, Jim
No issues with irritation, and I've still been wearing it after all these years. If you are wearing it 24h, I'd suggest washing it more often, especially if you are sweating a lot.
Eric keeps belt ON TOP of Hollister..but manufacturer says to put it below. It slips back and forth above the ring. And difficult to get it below the appliance next to the flange
I don't put it below the flange ring on Hollister 2pc for a few reasons: A) It doesn't secure much because the bag will still be tugging at the flange, so it defeats the purpose of wearing the belt. B) The clear plastic part of the bag underneath the flange ring is very thin and can tear easily with the belt putting pressure there. The way I do it is perfect for me and the belt tabs keep the Nu Comfort belt from going behind the flange ring. 👍
The sizing is a little confusing, because they offer different sized rings and different sized belts: nu-hope.com/2018/09/05/nu-comfort-belt-by-nu-hope/ I would contact Nu-Hope with your appliance part number, so they can give you a recommendation on the appropriate size to get.
Thanks you so much for this video. I have been having leaks so I where my belt all the time ever when I am sleeping. This looks like a more secure and comfortable option.
Compared to regular belts, which tend to tug at small points on the side of the appliance, this is a much better solution in my opinion. I've had leaks because of the standard belts, but not this one.
Thank you for the information! Great video! I have a question. Would this be the best option for prevention of hernias while weight training? ..and if not, is there a product out there specifically for that function?
+geeno123 This would not be ideal for a hernia prevention belt, even though it applies some pressure around the stoma. Nu-Hope makes hernia belts that would work better. They usually need to be custom ordered to your specific needs. If you have a local medical supply store that carries Nu-Hope, they'll likely be able to measure the size you need.
If you're thinking along the lines of support for a hernia or hernia prevention, then no, I don't think this would be ideal. Nu-Hope does have more appropriate products for abdominal support, but this one is only suited to supporting the pouch. I hope that helps :)

I wouldn't suggest a belt like this for hernia prevention or support as they aren't designed for that. Hernia belts shouldn't be very expensive and they are often covered by insurance benefits. I'd look into that first. I'm mostly wearing 1pc bags now, but NuHope does have suggestions on which size ring to get for different appliances. Best of luck!

Hi Bob, I lost my entire colon and rectum (now a closed anus) at age 32. It needed to be done for me to have any chance at a normal life and I'm grateful to have had a wonderful healthcare team. My surgery was here in Toronto, Ontario in Canada. I've never served, although I am grateful for your service. Have a wonderful weekend.
Great question! This support belt (the Nu-Comfort belt) is to help support the ostomy bag for people who do not have a hernia. A hernia support belt is generally wider, stiffer, and is designed to either hold in an existing hernia or prevent one from forming. I hope that helps.
For me, pressure around the stoma from a belt like this can make a prolapse worse. I'd suggest speaking with a stoma nurse for alternative bag support options.
@@VeganOstomy I thought that the flap went over the stoma…it’s not so much a prolapse but a telescoping issue. We are using an ace wrap to keep the stoma from coming out during the day. Just wondering what the “flap” is and how it works. Thanks
@@jullettemitre9886 Do you have a link to the flap? My prolapses are often due to excess strain (i.e. heavy lifting) and made worse if I have pressure around my stoma from an accessory product. But I don't use any product specific for keeping a prolapsed stoma protected or in place. This Nu-Comfort belt makes using other accessories pretty difficult, but if I can see what it looks like, I may be able to make an educated guess :)
@@VeganOstomy I don't have a specific link, but on the NuHope site they indicate an option to the belt for a flap for "telescoping" stomas...looks like an extra piece of material that goes over the stoma...maybe I need to call and find out if that's what we need?

Hi Mercy. I don't recommend any speicific product for everyone, but I do suggest that anyone who is looking for a new bag to sample what's available to them. The most popular brands are Hollister, Coloplast, and Convatec, but this can vary depending on where you live.

have another question. i found a belt that’s 36 - 40 inches. i measured my stomach from the top of the flange and it’s 35 inches. since it’s only been 2 weeks since my surgery there could still be some swelling for now and eventually it might be smaller. would it be wise to wait a few weeks to see. my concern is since i’ve developed a fistula at the base of my stoma it is much harder to prevent leakage. i’m tired of waking up to a mess on my bed and body most days. need something to hold the flange down more against my body. any recommendations
I usually advise that people wait to buy accessories if they are new from surgery as there may be changes that can alter how the accessory is measured or fitted. Have you considered using a regular accessory belt (the ones that attach to the belt tabs on the flange) before getting the Nu-comfort belt? They are pretty cheap and can be adjusted to fit you if you gain or lose weight.
Vegan Ostomy thanks eric. yes i have an use the belt that goes into the tabs but it still leaks during my sleep. i need something that better like the nu comfort for a more secure seal. i can’t seem to find the 2 1/4 like the measurement inside my wafer. can a diff flange size work that would still hold the entire bag to my body
Burping the bag through the coupling on a 2pc will require you to temporarily move the belt out of the way, but it is doable and only takes a few seconds.
I would say "it depends". If you're using a Coloplast system that has a locking mechanism, then that will likely interfere with the fit of this belt. In that case, I would opt for the Coloplast band instead (on the mio, it hooks up on four points instead of two).
Leaks often require some investigating before they can be properly solved. I have a video about leaks here: th-cam.com/video/CSMSmFq8g1E/w-d-xo.html I also have a written article that goes even further in-depth here: www.veganostomy.ca/ostomy-leaks-tips/

Hi Eric I also have a loop colostomy because I have a neurogenic bowel . May I ask why you have a colostomy? Was it from chrohns disease or cancer?
Hi Bob, I have an ileostomy due to Crohn's disease. Thanks for watching!
@@VeganOstomy Hi Thank You for your reply. Did you lose all of your intestines & your anus also? My colostomy is reversible but I will never have the reversal surgery as I don't want the intestinal & anal pain back I was experiencing pre colostomy . How old were you when you had the surgery & was it done here in the US? Mine was done at the Tampa Florida VA Hospital I think in December 2009 . While I was a patient in the Spinal Cord Injury Ventilator unit . Are you a a fellow Veteran if so thank you for your service . I'm an Air Force Veteran . I served August ' 71 - May ' 75 . I'm also a VA Retiree as well .
What is difference between hernia belt and Nu- comfort support belt you feature in your video?
Great question! This support belt (the Nu-Comfort belt) is to help support the ostomy bag for people who do not have a hernia. A hernia support belt is generally wider, stiffer, and is designed to either hold in an existing hernia or prevent one from forming. I hope that helps.
How does the belt work with a prolapse support flap?
I like it I wounder if CONVATEC has this product
Not this specific design, but they do have the traditional belts.
Thaks for the good review.what about to take a shower,do you take it of?
Yes, I remove all accessories when having a shower. I just keep my bag and wafer on or nothing at all.
@@VeganOstomy ok thank you very much I'll try to buy one I am using the one inch belt and yes does dig in my skin very umconfortable but Im doing good after all got two years with my ostomy and thanks for the information
What product of colostomy bag you suggest to buy.
Hi Mercy. I don't recommend any speicific product for everyone, but I do suggest that anyone who is looking for a new bag to sample what's available to them. The most popular brands are Hollister, Coloplast, and Convatec, but this can vary depending on where you live.
Thank you so much! I care for someone who would benefit from this but I wanted to get some input first :-)

How do you burp the pouch with a 2 piece if the tabs are covered up?
+Lori Hippelheuser You can still burp through the top of the flange, although it's easier to reposition the belt before doing so.
what's the purpose behind wearing a two piece over a one piece? I've just always worn a one piece. just curious what they are designed for
+Nathan Deas I'll have a video on it at some point, but here's an article I wrote explaining the differences: www.veganostomy.ca/1pc-vs-2pc-ostomy-appliance-ostomy-tips/
If a one piece works for you, then stick to it :)
Vegan Ostomy wow that was fast! thanks
Where do we get in India
It's best to contact the manufacturer directly to see what international shipping options exist: www.nu-hope.com
I would love to try this product maybe test it. I'm small and the plastic on the sizer hurts my back very badly. I get back pain from it. I need better support for my ileostomy, R side, 26 in. waist, 1-3/4 hole, very small stoma.
+Linda Angel Hi Linda. Give Nu-Hope a call to see if they have a dealer in your area that can show you how this product works. You may be able to try them there.

Awsome thank you Eric
Eric. Can you use the nu comfort support belt with the hollister 18123 new image drainable pouch bags that has 3 belt tabs on it
I'm pretty sure that's a similar appliance to the one I'm wearing in this video - it should work just fine.
Vegan Ostomy eric. is there another size flange that would work well. no one seems to have the nu comfort 2” wide belt 2 1/4”. in 32-35” length
have another question. i found a belt that’s 36 - 40 inches. i measured my stomach from the top of the flange and it’s 35 inches. since it’s only been 2 weeks since my surgery there could still be some swelling for now and eventually it might be smaller. would it be wise to wait a few weeks to see. my concern is since i’ve developed a fistula at the base of my stoma it is much harder to prevent leakage. i’m tired of waking up to a mess on my bed and body most days. need something to hold the flange down more against my body. any recommendations
How to buy this products
Please contact the manufacturer directly to see where it can be purchased in your area: www.nu-hope.com
Can i get it in Australia? Looks great.
I suggest contacting Nu-Hope to see if they have distribution in Australia.
How do you burp with this belt? I use the Hollister two piece with the vent and I still must burp it.
Burping the bag through the coupling on a 2pc will require you to temporarily move the belt out of the way, but it is doable and only takes a few seconds.
Does anyone else use coloplast products, I see where Eric says may not work with coloplast?
I would say "it depends". If you're using a Coloplast system that has a locking mechanism, then that will likely interfere with the fit of this belt. In that case, I would opt for the Coloplast band instead (on the mio, it hooks up on four points instead of two).
Eric, Please give web address for this nu-hope belt. I sent for one. Came today. I ordered Xlarge size they sent me a L. Does not fit.
HI Cleome, try www.nu-hope.com
Will this belt also help in not getting a hernia ?
No, it would not provide adequate support to prevent hernias. Nu-Hope does make hernia belts, which will do a much better job.
Hi what are u recommendations for leaks?
Leaks often require some investigating before they can be properly solved.
I have a video about leaks here: th-cam.com/video/CSMSmFq8g1E/w-d-xo.html
I also have a written article that goes even further in-depth here: www.veganostomy.ca/ostomy-leaks-tips/
How to order it
I suggest contacting www.nu-hope.com/ to see where their products are sold in your area. I had to order outside of my province to get mine.
Hi Eric; I love love love my new nu-Comfort belt. So far not one leak and it is great at night. I shall tell with time if I feel the same. I have ordered the extra largest size but Amazon does not carry it. Nu-Hope told me where to order it. Quick question. I can not log onto your forum. Cleome jewell is an old alt's name which somehow you are getting. When I put in my real name , the forum will not take it. Says it is already being used. It is the only e-mail I have. Any suggestions as I wish to join the forum. TY
Hey Cleome, did you get my email about for the forum? I suggested that you click to retrieve your forum password as it's already got you registered. Email me back if you still can't get through (I recently changed the login page)
Thank you, Eric. Somehow I did not see the e-mail from you about the form. I can use cleome jewell instead of me.
I put in cleome jewell, same e-mail address, new password. Red notice said ," Use another e-mail already in use.

How can i order from Canada and how much would it be?

For persons owning a makerbot 3d printer, I've just created one on thingiverse. www.thingiverse.com/thing:1845960 You need to make your own strap to go with it. It fits 70mm bags.
Very interesting, Ann! Be careful with the design, though - I believe it's patented.
It's not the same shape. How much can you patent a flat ring with handles? I'm not selling them, just offering the design for download and printing. I"m wearing mine now! There's a small selection of ostomy appliances on there including things to replace the whole kit. Needs refining, though.
I only mention it because I know another person was 3d printing ostomy stoma guards and the manufacturer gave him hell! LOL But that's so awesome that you're able to make one yourself! How strong/durable are they?
Vegan Ostomy It's working just fine! It's not as scrubbable as the commercial product, but that's about it. I've used it for one day and haven't got it dirty yet. But I'll probably print up a couple of them. I just don't like sewing the velcro on the elastics. It's tough stuff to push a needle through.
ann kiszt I hear you there! I bought some velcro thinking I could do a simple DIY project, but it's not easy to work with!
