Thanks. Used this video to assemble my SRAM components. I went with Force shifters, rear and front derailleurs, Red Crankset and kept the Apex brakes - no reason to change them as they still have great stopping power. I upgraded from 2012 Rival shifters, crankset, rear derailler and Apex front derailleur.
Another great one, thanks for this! How about a budget cyclocross build, using components from whichever manufacturer is the best value? Since cyclocross builds are often pretty DIY, this seems like some helpful information.
Great video as always! I'll be upgrading my wheels in the near future but have a 9 speed rear cassette right now. Is there a video done yet for changing a 9 speed cassette onto an 11 speed hub?
minidini10 9 and 10-speed hubs use the same freehub body, but 11-speed hubs have a longer freehub body. You can either buy a new 11-speed freehub body for your hub, or run an 11-speed cassette with one cog removed as we show in this video: th-cam.com/video/rfv9auQ-_fo/w-d-xo.html
It was my understanding that when rival went to 11 the shifters gained zero loss on both the front and rear. Does it still have more slop than the zero loss found on the other models?
Shayariel1 All three SRAM 22 groups feature ZeroLoss shifting, but Red and Force come with better cables than Rival, that help to generate a more precise, lighter shift feel. With those material changes there is also a difference in weight. Rival weighs 45 grams more than Force, and Red is 7 grams lighter than Force.
A bit late to this one but recently had my Force 1 equipped bike knocked over. The right shift lever has broken - do you know if I can use a Red 11 speed hydraulic shift/lever with the long cage Force 1 derailleur 10-42T
What about SRAM 1x road setups? Most of the components are the same, but i would like to know what shifters and disc brakes would make more sense if the priority is value for money
So there are a few ways to go about the budget 1x road build. Honestly the rival 1x11 setup is my favorite. The big questions here are hydro or mechanical and 1x11 or 1x10. You can get away with a cheap 110bcd crank that with work with almost any shimano/sram 1x group and if you are ok with lacking a broad range of gears, the 1x10 setup could be super affordable.
Cx1 shifters paired with an apex 1 RD would be a good setup. The Rival 1 shifters are slightly heavier and the hardware sticks out slightly more, (can be slightly uncomfortable on the hands)
Thx for the answer. I meant wether an Apex RD is OK if weight is not an issue compared to a Rival RD. I have followed your suggestion by going for the best shifters money can buy (as dedicated 1x setup). In your video you suggest the Rival RD but since the video is 2 years old I thought that with the new generation Apex 1 RD it might be totally ok to pick that one considering it has a clutch and Exact Actuation and ball bearing pulleys. Fretting over bike components is terrible (and unnecessary I know :)))
Sorry for the mix up. The new Apex RD is great value and aside from a 40ish gram weight penalty, the performance should be very close to the rival 1 RD.

Unfortunately no. The pull rations between 10 and 11 speed Sram are slightly different, so in this case you will have shifter/derailleur compatibility issues.
blog.artscyclery.com/science-behind-the-magic/science-behind-the-magic-drivetrain-compatibility/ can you describe me more ? because I check shifter cable pull and Rear Deraileur ratio for 10 and 11 speed Sram same from the link above?
My apologies, you are correct. they both use exact actuation and have the same pull ratios. Sram does not list it as compatible on their website for obvious reasons, (requires cassette modification). Listed compatible items are: (SRAM RED® 10-speed, Force, Rival & Apex front derailleur/ 10-speed Exact Actuation rear derailleurs/ SRAM S-700 HRR & HRD). That being said Since the pull ratios are the same, if you modify your cassette and limit you derailleur properly it should work just fine. If you decide to move forward with this, let us know how the install goes!
Hi Art Cyclery, the item work perfect. I use Sram s700 10 speed shifter with Sram Rival derailleurs 11 speed and 10 speed shimano cassete and there's no problem from it. thanks for your cable pull and Cog pitch calculation ! :D

Awesome, happy to help!
Fantastic video for both brands, thank you for making.
Awesome job, guys. You have to end this series by adding a Campy road guide and finish Shimano with MTB series (non-Di2).

afaik are all 22 Shifter identical, except for material.
Perhaps better shiftcables @ Red & Force

brilliant video! could you please make a similar video for campagnolo 11-speed?
***** It's on our list.

Can you PLS do this fot the Year 2021/2022 with AXS
please please please do campy!!!
information had been passed on to the crew. Thanks for the feedback!

Would you say an Apex 1 RD paired with Force CX1 levers is a good match for a 1x CX setup? Or would you say Rival 1 is the lowest one should go?

Thank you very much! I really like your videos. They help a lot in making decisions.
Red shifters are actually the same price online if you know where to look ;)

+Art's Cyclery oh yeah and Jagwire
Do SRAM MTB as well! great job
They already have a video for SRAM MTB 1x11.

can I use Sram 11 speed Rival rear deraileur with my Sram s700 10 speed shifter + 10 speed shimano casette ?
Thank you
