Just a thought, Instead of putting on a sticker that says redundant why not just take the board off? It will look much better and wont confuse the customer when a breaker trip. Keep up the good work mate
Thats the added componant of being a good electrician is knowing how to bespoke anything thats presented to you wether through yours or no fault of your own!
Well done for sorting it, not sure what you stock on the van, but I would’ve ran some 50x50 trunking down the side of the stairs, made my connections in there and added some protection to the cables so the crap that gets shoved under the cupboard doesn’t damage them, would look much neater too
Well done Adam, its how you deal with mistakes like that which will make customers recommend you to other people, i've seen and worked with people before who would bodge it or try and charge the customer extra and make an excuse. You'll go far with it with a mentality like that.
IMHO Adam, seeing you've gone this far, I would have gone the other way and pull the Verso board, get it off the floor, and replace it with a joint box and extend the cable runs up to the old board position and put the Versi board in its place. Bit of 50x50 trunking up the angle wall. Old board gone, Verso installed in its place, everything encapsulated, as AD would say, "job's a good'n".
Nice recovery from a mistake we all could have made. I would vote for removing the old fuse board, if possible, to avoid future confusion. The triangle wall patch was a neat way to address the problem.
In younger days I worked on those old, smelly, terrible houses with old cables and I didn't like my job. Everything I touched or moved was just making more damage to the building. Today I work only on intercoms and access door control for big buildings/amaprtments and life is better. No more fat wires, drilling, no dust, no heavy machines... and money is at least in 3x bigger numbers.
@@AdamDunlopElectrical ok, I'm signing you up. but first you have to start with your own math, to prove yourself if I am maybe full of bullsh... Ok? You have small building lets say 30 apartments to do the job with new intercoms with one or two access door control RFID readers and 90 rfid tags. They want video handsfree units maybe Urmet, Comelit or Bticino. Now the question: What do you think how long you need to buy and install everything and how much profit you think you will take home? Do the math yourself if you have time and energy and I will correct you after that with true numbers.. That was the question that put me on the market day after I heard it and after 15y I wouldn't change my job for anything else.
SILLY SAUSAGE! We all make mistakes mate, you'll learn from every one! Good video mate, nice to see you coming into your own with your channel, keep it up.
Mate dont like to criticise as no ones perfect but just a few thing I’m wondering 1. Why has that spur in the bathroom not been blanked off 2. Why leave the old board? 3 why clip the cables direct in the cupboard why not use 38x25 or 50 x 50 pvc trunking. 4 why not just put a 5 or 6 foot led batten up in the kitchen and make the joints inside would be a better all round light. As I say not having a go just a few things I wondered but we all work different.
Trust me mate we have all done it and your heart sinks when you see the damage 😢 Maybe if there is a next time, do a temp repair, then arrange to go back and fit either an adapt box with din rail connections or a wago consumer unit relocation box and totally remove the redundant db . I bet inside that wago box it’s like a birds nest 😂
I am totally confused Adam, that old board is fed via those Blocks below it so you could of made life easier by decommissioning the lot and taking it away. Nice job keeping calm and just sorting it out though, well done.
Its a pvc box not a bakelite kind of material. So when you want drill or fix the box it does not shatter or break. The bakelite kind of box kicks of a nasty smell and dust when drilling also.so pvc ones are alot better
The 2 rings in one breaker - do end to ends and if everything’s ok join one leg with one ring and the other leg with the other opposite then put the remaining 2 legs in to the fuse
Hi this may just be me but would it not have been better to take the old board away and move the newer looking board up to where the old board was it would be more accessible up there ,great work anyway.
60 years old? lol. That consumer unit is only half that age. It’s an MEM Type 1 MCBs. 15th edition. 60 years old was BS3036’s. Also, get it ripped out and a 30mA RCBO metalclad SPD consumer unit fitted.
All depends on the size of the installation and how many circuits their is to test a good thorough test should take a couple of hours but you will gets sparks that would do it in half hour and not test properly
As said below that’s the overall census of eicrs but I think generally around uk you end up around the 2/250 mark Or if priced per board circuit then say board 40-60 Circuits 10-25 I’d say they the rough prices
I’ve never noticed before but you’ve got proper weird ears mate that side angle under the stairs showed them hoikers right off. Get a unilite beanie on or something mate
He may be a qualified spark but he is still very much a amateur in what he does i wonder how much he charges for his services 😅 i agree he got all the but got no idea 😂@travisbro

Respect for showing your mistakes and fixing them. 👍
Cheers

Good point didn’t have any on my van sadly

Yep 👍🏻

Another good option cheers
At least you fixed it though. Virgin media drilled a 5.5mm hole in my gas pipe and left without saying a word.
Nice recovery from a mistake we all could have made. I would vote for removing the old fuse board, if possible, to avoid future confusion. The triangle wall patch was a neat way to address the problem.
Thanks
Just for future big no no to have circuits fed from another fuse board within that fuse board
It happens to everyone, 👍 and you rectified, and you left it better protected than you found ❤️ Well done 👍
So true!

Take the old Fuseboard away
Could do
Mate we have all done it! It’s character building!
SILLY SAUSAGE!
We all make mistakes mate, you'll learn from every one!
Good video mate, nice to see you coming into your own with your channel, keep it up.
Thanks 👍
It is interesting how many EICR's find faults even though the previous electrician allegedly knew what they where doing.
You made a mistake with the two boards but it will never be a “flexicon” mistake
Makes me feel better about drilling through a socket cct… in my own home! Good on you for showing it to the world mate takes some balls.
Ain't watched you for a while mate but your confidence and delivery to camera has come on leaps and bounds 👍
Much appreciated

Yeah very true would be better and it’s not that bad in there was only 4 circuits
6mm CSA or larger then the cable will be fine to be protected via a 45amp MCB.
Well done for showing this we have all done it, but can you can be 100% sure others on TH-cam would have edited this out
Thanks appreciate it
Everybody makes mistakes, it's how you deal with it is more important. Good job.
Cheers

Good point!
You’ve come across a problem and fixed it, a great job.
Thanks 👍
It Happens - Just Forget about it, You've made it safe so carry on
Thanks
Fair play showing your mistake , many wouldn’t, all about learning mate 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Crap like that always happens on a Friday. Maybe because our minds begin to wander?
Definitely agree as I said I was thinking about filming and stuff
Shit happens, as Darkonon said, it's how you deal with your mistakes that matters.
Cheers
Yeah did it my self as well cought a socket leg buried in a wall 😒 your not alone in this mistake 👍
Thanks
I think every spark has made the same mistake before.
Definitely at sometime in the career
Could someone explain what a malleable backbox is. How does it differ from
a normal one?
Its a pvc box not a bakelite kind of material. So when you want drill or fix the box it does not shatter or break. The bakelite kind of box kicks of a nasty smell and dust when drilling also.so pvc ones are alot better
@@musthavetoolsforthetrade6436 Ah thanks for that. Appreciated 👍
Great explanation- baso doesn’t snap/ crack if customer accidentally kicks it
Its funny when we make mistakes but can put the right, at least you didnt edit it out, we have all been there
Definitely I could have edited it out but though that’s not real life
If you was worried about the light fitting IP rating, Why was you not worried about the spur at 7:14 ?
You know this work is notifiable, so who is notifying LABC?
Disconnect neutral in DB for that lighting circuit so you can’t grip RCD?
Trip*
As others have said just removed the old board. Shit happens though, could have been a lot worse and you sorted the issue. Keep your chin up 🙂
Cheers
The 2 rings in one breaker - do end to ends and if everything’s ok join one leg with one ring and the other leg with the other opposite then put the remaining 2 legs in to the fuse
Could do that
Why do that then only one ring circuit. Best way as done two separate ring circuit. Looks better and safer.
Hi this may just be me but would it not have been better to take the old board away and move the newer looking board up to where the old board was it would be more accessible up there ,great work anyway.
Could have , cheers
Hi Adam what wagos did you use for the 6 mm?
Got bigger wagos for 6mm however 10mm I crimp with heat shrink
Surely them cables bunched up would cause a rather bad hotspot? Not taking grouping factors into account???
Such is the trade Adam,... ive drilled through most things you'd ever imagine.... But, never my own cables....
Yoo Good job 😅
Thanks 👍

Its a learning curve, you are not as old as nick with years of experience.. You learn from your elders.. Now he has a beard lol.
That would have moved if you had a strap for removing oil filters
They siliconed it on to stop the electricity from leaking.. duh!!
Ahah imagine
What a donut!
Put it down to experience mate, you live and learn.
Definitely
You learn by experience. Sure we have all drilled through a cable.
Definitely thanks
you are human as i have done the same mistake
Yeap sadly think we all do at somepoint
Another great video, I'm buying a house at the moment! Just wondering if you can let me know a rough price for an EICR, thanks!

Wtf
Cheers Sean Findlay 😊
What is a BT14?
Just those bulkhead lights another name for them
#Nightmare. Unlucky adam
Yep 😫
Why dont u just take the circuit out the board to stop rcd tripping.
all the gear but no idea
He may be a qualified spark but he is still very much a amateur in what he does i wonder how much he charges for his services 😅 i agree he got all the but got no idea 😂@travisbro

What a doofus!! 😂😂😀
