BTS has always said that they don't limit their videos and songs to one meaning. People can interpret it in any way. However, most of their work goes beyond just them being artists and their fans. They implement a lot of literature, past thinkers and aim to sending messages related to world issues. I feel like this video, especially in context to the album, is about something bigger than their struggles as artists (which they covered in black swan).
After the Wings era, BTS produced the trilogy series Love Yourself. Then, they made the Map of The Soul series (based on the Jungian Psychology). ON is from this serie (Album: Map of the Soul 7 )
Regarding your question about whether the "dark" version of themselves is the past or present: based on the shadow concept in Jungian psychology, which this is based on, the "dark" version co-exists with the "light" version. The dark version of themselves is their shadow, the parts of themselves that they struggle with or don't like but have to embrace to become their true selves.
I love that you're listening and reading into the lyrics with correct translations before analyzing the music video. We really appreciate it when people care enough to spend that kind of time understanding their music and art! You're honestly one of my favorite reactors now, I actually enjoy listening to your take on their work!
I am SOOO in love with your reaction. I am learning whole lot more about filming and critic. Your contents are the reason to make me log in the TH-cam. :)
Same. I like how he reacts and explains how that would work behind the scenes which many of us ARMYs would like to know. Also since BTS are artist, its nice to know other artist's (filmmaker, video editor, director, opera singers) input. There are certain viewpoints he highlighted that makes sense and that I totally missed.
I really like your reactions. Don't worry about pausing too much, it's appreciated when people take time to actually react and dissect what they see. Ooooh and since you already saw Blood, sweat and tears you should definitely watch the Japanese version of the MV! it's so much different than Korean one. It also references their WINGS short films. Sadly no one ever reacts to it.
Since I didn't see any comment bout this. In the end it goes from "NO MORE DREAM" to "DREAM" . No more Dream is actually their debut song from 2013 so I think it sets a strong message aswell to go from there to "Dream".
It’s totally ok to pause and put your thoughts out. In general as far as BTS’ main discography goes the chronological order is: School series->Dark&Wild->Most Beautiful Moment In Life/Young Forever->Wings/You Never Walk Alone->Love Yourself series->Map of the Soul series->Dynamite+BE-> Butter+new upcoming album ON is a turning point in the Map of the Soul:7 album in terms of story telling, it’s part of the transition between the concepts of Shadow and Ego. From my point of view I see “Louder Than Bombs” and “ON” as kind of an acceptance of BTS’ turbulent thoughts they talked about in the preceding tracks (ie: burn out, fear of losing passion, missing out on normal life, loneliness, uncertainty about the future, etc.) but ultimately a resolution to go forward. Will definitely be watching for more reactions 👍
They said the bird symbolize Hope, and it's dying in the opening and in the ending it was revived and freed, just like the story in this mv. So it's like as long as it has a little bit of hope don't give up. Something like that.
You want a mind blowing music video of BTS? Men! Go and watch Spring Day! Then go to the Behind the scene and then go to Spring day Explanation of music video... I promise sir, that's so good... All point to theory ... Also the explanation is a true tragedy in south korea
Yes. And please if you watch it, watch Italian Army's explanation about it. It's such a well researched video and fully subtitled so you don't have to turn on captions. Its great.
As a lot of people already commented, there are numerous ways of interpreting that MV. To me, the dark dance break is a nod to their present dark side. Yes, they are successful now but there are still forces trying to bring them down, they still have to fight to stay on top.
@@tlj22001 Somehow i thought that the scene represent them being part of the illuminati because of this things with masks that they're wearing , cuz you know a lot of American artists like bellie eilish are popular because of the illuminati community
What you said about the young girl as a representation of new army had teared me up coz it really makes sense. As a new army I can't tell how much pain they endure before they became this successful. I am here at their brightest day's but I wasn't there during those darkest times and it makes me sad. By the way this mv introduces me to bts last year during my darkest times & liking bts is the best decision I've made. Love your reactions! 💜
You don't have to apologize for the pausing especially if it's because you want to explain the possible reasoning behind certain shots/props ! BTS and their team really goes ham when it comes to giving everything in their videos some meaning whether it's big or small and i'm pretty sure they love it when folks spot those details so keep geeking out, we love it !
I'm obsessed with your professional analysis and breakdowns of the cinematography and filmmaking aspects of their music. It's not that I can't appreciate it on my own it's just that I don't know how because I don't even know what to look for or what is impressive. Your reactions really opened my eyes to the efforts that go into the filming and how hard the lighting, production, set building, safety, camera, and stylist crews etc. must be working to put these masterpieces together and incorporate the desired symbolism. Thank you so much for sharing your insights as a filmmaker! btw I really like your hair and glasses and the pink door behind you lol. Also you can pause to talk and analyze as much as you want because it's your channel and most of us are here to listen to your unique input as someone who has experience working in the film industry. I appreciate you and hope you have a good week :)
As you said there numerous ways of understanding their mv. You're not wrong per se (except for the chronology, the wing era and the map of the soul era are separated by the Love Yourself era.) I like your interpretation and the thoughts you put into it. They are valid because artwork leads to personal interpretation. See it like a whole journey. Wing (Blood sweat and tears): breaking of childhood, accepting temptation and breaking into adulthood. Love yourself (fake love and other): love is a misleading goal, you must love yourself to-be able to really love other's Map of the soul: Jungian psychology: understanding what make you, you. Persona, shadow (This mv is amazing btw) and ego are part of you. By accepting it, youwill move on your way of self-discovery. On is about accepting your shadows (V'neck for example) and becoming leader of their life. And by that leading a new generation (the little girl) Good luck on your BTS journey I hope you enjoy it.
Can't get enough of your BTS videos these days. Really enjoy your interpretation of the blind folded girl and the Lion King-everything the light touches is BTS'. Never thought of it that way, so cool! Appreciate your listening and researching the lyrics before, hard to do catch alot in the 1st watch.
i don't care if u pause a million times as long as you share ur thought process, theories and interpretations. that's what i'm here for because it adds to the art that they create and it's interesting for me to see how other people react to something i love. if i wanted someone who just stared at the mv, said "wow that was cool" and called it a day i could find countless reactors like that. just subscribed :)
Art is all about interpretation. On Bon Voyage (their travel vlog) they talked about how creating music is incomplete until someone listens/reacts to it. Your take of their multilayered meaning is on point. When you combine their creation with all the different viewpoints that’s when you get the final result.
fun fact: BTS songs can be interpreted in many ways not just by different people but through different stages of a single person's life. Every thing you go through... their songs just heal you!! that might tell why ARMYs are so dedicated.. their songs pulled me n many others out of depression n a loop of suicidal thoughts (5 years of counselling and BTS for me XD).. P.s love ur videos!!
Thank u for your honest and most genuine opinion! And the fact that you made a research to the song before reacting to it is a big deal. A lot of reactors kept asking about the BTS (even after so many reactions they made) just to gain views and comments. Don’t worry about the pause as you should coz of course your doing a reaction. Thank u 🙏
Love reactors like you where we not only get to listen to your interpretations of BTS videos but we learn lots of stuff as well. Looking forward to all of your future BTS reactions.Pause as much as you want, love seeing your eyes twinkle with excitement and appreciation to BTS videos.Prefer you not to research first before viewing video as your interpretations would be more YOU and natural. Research after for a different version of your take.
The wings album was in 2016 and "ON" was in 2020. After the wings era, there was four other albums before ''ON''. "Fake Love" was on one of these albums. Generally, BTS releases two albums/singles per year. You did some mistakes while researching but at least you tried and I'm thankful for that. Some people complain about not understanding BTS songs but they don't even try to do some research.
I love it when people actually make an effort to understand music videos instead of just watching it and staying confused without putting in any effort to understand
I love this! There are definitely many different interpretations but one thing is for sure: understanding BTS’ universe will help a lot. Jin is a time traveler in their storyline. I think the many bird cages represent the many times his “dove” (jungkook) died and he was unable to save it. If you see at the end, 7 doves fly together, and jungkook finally joins the rest of them. they reunited. the doves represent themselves.
I like it more when the reactors pause in each scene than not pausing at all i hate when they don't pause it feels like they don't appreciate the video
same. how can anyone react to a video without pausing? If they want to watch the MV undisturbed then just go on the official yt channel and watch it there. lol why watch a reaction video if they don’t wanna see the reaction itself. especially when the reactor has something interesting to say. (the only time i hate pausing is when the reactor doesn’t say much, just pauses for the sake of pausing)
your theorizing is like sooooo over and beyond anything i had ever thought of holy shit that’s an amazing theory. also, like many other comments I’ve seen, don’t mind those complaining about your pauses. it’s really refreshing to find a reactor that analyzes every bit and piece of their art so thoroughly while also focusing on the cinematic. you thinking out loud through out the videos makes me see these videos I’ve loved in a new light. Plus, i think you’re genuinely the only reactor where i don’t really find myself skipping past your pausing, nor does it feel like you’re only looking through BTS for the views. it feels really genuine especially from the subtle looks of amazement you get at certain times. So thank you , please keep it up and if you really do end up falling down the bts rabbit hole with the rest of us, then it’ll be all the more great
They have this thing called the BU meaning the BTS UNIVERSE basically their music videos and short films are a series of stories starting from the very start and everyone of them is connected so the fandom also creates theories of it. Sometimes it's not necessary that every mv and lyrics are connected very seriously
You know it's a healthy fandom when you see people encouraging and supporting each other ! ARMY and BTS has been and will be my mental support always. and @LoveTheBasics, you are doing great!
He is looking at himself from the future. He’s a time traveler in bts universe and he’s trying to make things right which he did after changing it and setting the bird free after he realized that it’s alive
I LOVE the reactions after so many months and years after to relive the beautiful of these MV's!! The pauses are on the beautiful cinematic scenes but here we are loving the member that is in those beautiful captures moments!
BTS are masters into making ordinary things turn into symbols. It shows in the way each scene raises so many different interpretations. I think all interpretations are valid.

I love that everyone gets something different from BTS's videos and songs. I firmly believe that we get what we need and no theory is right or wrong. It's whatever you needed to hear in that moment.
Okay! I really can't stop myself rn to not watch all your reaction vids. Damn! You're thoughts on every mv are giving me a new knowledge and I love it!
the fact that you do your research makes me appreciate the very existence of you as an ARMY on a whole other level. Keep doing what you do, pause as much as you want because it really is interesting seeing everything in a Filmmaker's point of view, and just keep going, man. You rock don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. FIghting!
I have to say that I really love your reactions. My favorite type of reactor is someone who knows their craft really well, whether it be a musician, actor, vocal coach or film editor etc. I always learn and see so much that I would've missed otherwise. Like you pointing out at 4:53 (where I paused to type this lol) that the perspective is that of a caged bird. I had never noticed that before. Anyway, back to the video for me lol, keep doing what you're doing, and thank you for teaching me new things! 💜
I don't understand when people say they hate it when people pause. I mean yes it does get a little annoying when they pause every couple of seconds, but you're watching a REACTION. You came to see somebody REACT and give their comments and opinions about the video. If you don't like it when the MV is paused then go watch the MV on your own.
I think this is one of the best MV reactions to this song. Your analysis is very thorough! Just pause if u need to, I love hearing your interpretations. BTS doesnt just make songs, they create amazing ART.
I really love your analysis of BTS MV's! It's just *chefs kiss*. I think that the black veins that show up on V's neck represents scars/imperfections. The little girl has a blind fold on and prior to that, we don't see anything on V. I believe, like what you said, she represents new army, that just started getting into BTS at the time that they started to make it big. THEN, when V removed the blind fold, the black veins show up. I think that represents how new army or just people in general know BTS as this big boy band, but once you get to know them, they realize that it wasn't all fame and fortune for BTS and that they have these imperfections that were created as a result of their struggle with gaining fame. I think it's also important to know that when BTS was trying to name this song, the title ON was a result of one of the very first songs titled N.O from their first mini album and they decided to flip it. The song N.O talked about how they couldn't have their own dreams as its common for parents to often control their childrens futures, and how adults always tried to make younger generations follow their steps and try to make them believe it was the only way to be successful in life. The ending shows the words "No More Dream", which again is a reference to another one of their first songs called "No More Dream" from their debut album, and then turns into just "Dream". This entire album Map of the Soul 7 has them making lot of references to their earlier works, which i think implies that no matter how successful they've become the pain from the past is what made them who they are today. And until now, BTS does not try to hide that pain. All the vlogs/personal documentaries that were recorded starting from when they lived in their tiny 1 bedroom apartment are still available on their youtube channel for old and new army to watch. I feel like their saying our old self is our new self and I think its beautiful.
i dont exactly remember when it was but at the end of 2020 they had an online concert and it all started with this giant rock you saw behind the wall and it hit me so much because during concert i was like what the hell, why this rock and now i see it’s exactly the same and i’m mind blown because they actually are on top of their careers now and we all can see it
What always messes me up with this mv is the “no more dream” transition to “dream” at the end. Their debut song was no more dream. Idk to me it feels like them saying they achieved their very first dream imaginable with this song and yet now we see them going even further than they could’ve imagined now. Truly inspiring.
I really love your reactions.. makes me want to appreciate the BTS production and technical crew much more..also your perspective is absolutely refreshing!!
Actually after the wings era they did the love yourself series ( tear , her , answer ) 3 albums between 2017 and 2018 , and then they did map of the soul series ( map of the soul persona in 2019 , and map of the soul 7 in 2020 )
In Wing's era, there's 2 album (Wings and You never walk alone, try to watch spring day). Then the next era is Love yourself containing 3 albums (Her, tear and answer) and then after that, there's Map of the soul with 2 albums ( Persona and 7, this is where the ON is included)
The drums are about world war II the drummer boy picture. Its the same truck and almost look alike boy on top of it. And the drums meant so many other kids died in battles. All of the music video is about life cycle the noahs ship, battlefield, jesus crist (V's part) thorn handcuffs and sugas part you can see earth water fire air symbols behind. Its about life, death and reborn. You can see the breakfast club and lion king referances also. Sorry for my bad bad english btw lol
The tattoo at 10:30 is the way most people (in movies, series etc.) portray veins after poisoning. Black, thin stripes all over the place were the poison worked until it got neutralized.
at 9:42, my guess is that kids usually represent the future. The kid is blindfolded, which makes me think that the future is blind, unknown to them. When they take this piece of cloth away, it's like the future becomes clear, and then this gigantic door (maybe their success?) opens up for them. They finally get along with the idea of their future, instead of being afraid of it and putting themselves in cages. The veins seem really cloudy for me too though, I would guess it's that he's finally letting courage run through his veins, which would explain him finally facing the future.

Omg!! That’s hard to believe lol
The Japanese MV is copyrighted, that's why a lot of people don't put in their channels
Japan is very strict with copyright so most reactors can't post it on TH-cam.
Since I didn't see any comment bout this. In the end it goes from "NO MORE DREAM" to "DREAM" . No more Dream is actually their debut song from 2013 so I think it sets a strong message aswell to go from there to "Dream".
The bird was dead on the battle field. Jin covered it with the sheet and then it came back to life when the cage rattled.
It’s totally ok to pause and put your thoughts out. In general as far as BTS’ main discography goes the chronological order is:
School series->Dark&Wild->Most Beautiful Moment In Life/Young Forever->Wings/You Never Walk Alone->Love Yourself series->Map of the Soul series->Dynamite+BE-> Butter+new upcoming album
ON is a turning point in the Map of the Soul:7 album in terms of story telling, it’s part of the transition between the concepts of Shadow and Ego.
Second this!
Yes. And please if you watch it, watch Italian Army's explanation about it. It's such a well researched video and fully subtitled so you don't have to turn on captions. Its great.
yessss
Yaaas
Yasshhh
As a lot of people already commented, there are numerous ways of interpreting that MV. To me, the dark dance break is a nod to their present dark side. Yes, they are successful now but there are still forces trying to bring them down, they still have to fight to stay on top.
You have spoken truth!!!
@@ideagirl I'm glad yo agree😊
@@tlj22001
Somehow i thought that the scene represent them being part of the illuminati because of this things with masks that they're wearing , cuz you know a lot of American artists like bellie eilish are popular because of the illuminati community
Bro.... I don't even know if you're serious or not. Haha
@@shashanabila3442well I might be right
What you said about the young girl as a representation of new army had teared me up coz it really makes sense.
When you theorized about the not showing the new fans the struggle I literally went "dayum" out loud. You're really something wow, in a good way.
The conch shell also has significance in many cultures. I've learned a lot about other cultures from stanning BTS.
The conch shell is a Lord of the Flies reference.
As you said there numerous ways of understanding their mv. You're not wrong per se (except for the chronology, the wing era and the map of the soul era are separated by the Love Yourself era.)
I like your interpretation and the thoughts you put into it. They are valid because artwork leads to personal interpretation.
See it like a whole journey.
Wing (Blood sweat and tears): breaking of childhood, accepting temptation and breaking into adulthood.
Love yourself (fake love and other): love is a misleading goal, you must love yourself to-be able to really love other's
Map of the soul: Jungian psychology: understanding what make you, you. Persona, shadow (This mv is amazing btw) and ego are part of you. By accepting it, youwill move on your way of self-discovery. On is about accepting your shadows (V'neck for example) and becoming leader of their life. And by that leading a new generation (the little girl)
Good luck on your BTS journey I hope you enjoy it.
I love this kind of reactor, taking research and examining every detail of the reacted video. Keep it up.
i don't care if u pause a million times as long as you share ur thought process, theories and interpretations. that's what i'm here for because it adds to the art that they create and it's interesting for me to see how other people react to something i love. if i wanted someone who just stared at the mv, said "wow that was cool" and called it a day i could find countless reactors like that. just subscribed :)
I love that you pause and explain things thank you
Art is all about interpretation.
One of the most Genuine and Transparent Reactions 👏👏
Your interpretation of the blind-folded little girl part is amazing!
It blows my mind how you can see certain things and just get this story correctly in just one watch
And yess pause as much as you need, i don't mind, i'm liking it so much
now your reaction videos are something I look forward to everyday
You can never pause too much. Omg, the fun part is listening TO YOU BREAK IT DOWN. Your interpretations are what keeps me coming back!
I've been binge watching all of your BTS reactions, and i love your interpretation, thank you for the reaction👍🏻
The fact that he's a professional film maker made me more interested to watch his reactions cuz he knows what he's saying and he shares his ideas.
I like it more when the reactors pause in each scene than not pausing at all i hate when they don't pause it feels like they don't appreciate the video
Same, I like the pauses and the pacing of talking about each scene! Also really like the research beforehand and what it added to this video!
same. how can anyone react to a video without pausing? If they want to watch the MV undisturbed then just go on the official yt channel and watch it there. lol why watch a reaction video if they don’t wanna see the reaction itself. especially when the reactor has something interesting to say. (the only time i hate pausing is when the reactor doesn’t say much, just pauses for the sake of pausing)
@@puremorning2468 yeah so true
your theorizing is like sooooo over and beyond anything i had ever thought of holy shit that’s an amazing theory. also, like many other comments I’ve seen, don’t mind those complaining about your pauses. it’s really refreshing to find a reactor that analyzes every bit and piece of their art so thoroughly while also focusing on the cinematic. you thinking out loud through out the videos makes me see these videos I’ve loved in a new light.
ARMY and BTS has been and will be my mental support always. and @LoveTheBasics, you are doing great!
in the last it said no more dream that was their debut song it is from where it all started
He is looking at himself from the future. He’s a time traveler in bts universe and he’s trying to make things right which he did after changing it and setting the bird free after he realized that it’s alive
His analysis and the information he gives about cinematography has helped me learn so much in these few days. HE IS OFFICIALLY MY FAVOURITE REACTOR
Did you notice the trees growing from that barren land?
It was beautiful, the growth haha~!
I think the brid cage shot has a little bit of the question in it if you look at someone who is caged or if you're the one that's caged
OMAYGAD! Love your interpretations!!!! Smart!
I LOVE the reactions after so many months and years after to relive the beautiful of these MV's!! The pauses are on the beautiful cinematic scenes but here we are loving the member that is in those beautiful captures moments!
Thx for your research and reaction to BTS’ “On” ...the giraffes, alpacas etc are def Real (Namjoon talked to us about them on vlive)
And I also remember him having a picture with an alpaca👁👄👁(or other animals that were there,i'm not sure)
BTS are masters into making ordinary things turn into symbols. It shows in the way each scene raises so many different interpretations. I think all interpretations are valid.
My view of the dance break where they’re in the dark clothes and setting is that it’s a preparation for the battle/journey ahead
yes, pause whenever you feel led! That's why I'm watching--to experience it through your trained and unique eyes. So I want you to stop and talk whenever you see something. : )
omgg i love when filmakers react to bts... cause they actually really care about their videos. thank u so much for reactting and im like learning new things watching you so its pretty cool
Your interpretation is so spot on! You made me look back on "On" and re-read the conceptual references behind the song and m/v! 💯
Oh very good!
the fact that you do your research makes me appreciate the very existence of you as an ARMY on a whole other level. Keep doing what you do, pause as much as you want because it really is interesting seeing everything in a Filmmaker's point of view, and just keep going, man. You rock don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. FIghting!
I am always crying at those reactions, and talking about those intimate things about them
I have to say that I really love your reactions.
I really enjoy your reactions. I love when people appreciate art
When he said 'black veins' I continuously screamed "thorns! Thorns! Thorns! They're thorns!!!"
Omg I just realised the big wording that says no more bream is their first ever song which brought more meaning to this song
I think this is one of the best MV reactions to this song. Your analysis is very thorough! Just pause if u need to, I love hearing your interpretations. BTS doesnt just make songs, they create amazing ART.
i really like your interpretation of the symbolisms! It also shows how creative you are💛
Love your perspective on BTS. It’s like learning a completely different side of their ART! Thanks for all your hard work! Can’t wait for more!
I'd suggest Black Swan next 😊 the meaning behind the lyrics are really deep actually and the music video is incredible
I feel like their saying our old self is our new self and I think its beautiful.
your explanation kind of nails what the mv tries to convey .. I love it ..
the drums are there to tear down the city walls and free people. This is a reference to the old testament
i dont exactly remember when it was but at the end of 2020 they had an online concert and it all started with this giant rock you saw behind the wall and it hit me so much because during concert i was like what the hell, why this rock and now i see it’s exactly the same and i’m mind blown because they actually are on top of their careers now and we all can see it
I truly love how they give us an entire story in just a short video and for no reason that gate gave me the maze runner vibes 💜
What always messes me up with this mv is the “no more dream” transition to “dream” at the end. Their debut song was no more dream. Idk to me it feels like them saying they achieved their very first dream imaginable with this song and yet now we see them going even further than they could’ve imagined now. Truly inspiring.
For V and the girl, you should most likely watch "make it right" because it refenre it. Also it's partly animated ^^
Love ur way of reaction and attention to details 🤩 black swan next please 😍
Hmmmmm okey
I watched the ON MV a million times alrdy but I still get chills same time as you 🤧 damn what has BTS done to me
pause all you want. bcz u give us honest reaction and that's what we like
I really love your reactions.. makes me want to appreciate the BTS production and technical crew much more..also your perspective is absolutely refreshing!!
You are so LEGIT
I can literally feel the amount of homework you do ..
Huge fan of how you are going in between the layers ..
Respect++
The way "No More Dream" (Their debut song) changes to "Dream" at the end gives me goosebumps 💜💜
I love your analysis of the meaning behind the blindfolded girl!!
You probably have no idea how much I enjoy this channel , you can pause as much as you want , I just love your interpretations and break downs it truly shows that you are paying attention and trying to understand more about what’s in the story and Bts ❤️✋🏻keep going
Love your interpretations and the way you pause to admire stuff you point out so many stuff I never observed I love that
It's not the first video after wings era. There were love yourself era (fake love mv etc), map of the soul (persona album and then mofs:7 with the title track ON)
Yeah, I was about to say... I was kinda wondering where he got that information from... 🙄😝 Like, this was almost 4 years after the Wings Era...
I really liked this reaction with all the research beforehand. Thank you.
These videos of yours just make me appreciates BTS’ videos even more
I've never seen such a detailed reactor like you for ON MV. After watching your interpretation on Art of this film, I realize more deep meaningful plots what they really mean. Thanks.
I think it would also be helpful for you to watch some introductory videos on BTS. I would suggest “This is BTS: A crash course 2020” by suga & spice which goes into the various eras of music and “ A most beautiful life goes on” by Asian Theory which gives a chronological overview of their career. ARMY looooves long videos, so we will definitely watch if you choose to react to these😁
Please keep pausing! I love how in depth you analysis goes, and I love that you just take time to admire the visuals. There are two music videos for this song, and I’ve never really appreciated this one until now because I couldn’t square up the sound/music with the visuals (probably because I saw the other one fist), but I finally really get it. Thank you!
