    This was a great video ! Even if you were not a fellow Bandit enthusiast, but anyone that is buying a used bike. Thanks for all the great videos !
    Also it had all the fasteners for the body panels . Good find! I'll be looking forward to seeing and learning from the rest of this project. I have to wait for a cash job coming up before I can start mine so I can carry on once started. Mine lives at my pals bike shop. I have my own keys, and Ive known him since a teen when I raced a Bultaco Astro (I'm 63). He was a Bultaco,Norton, Triumph dealer. And he does some nice Norton and Triumph restorations.

      Thanks again Daniel for the kind words. I felt it was a honest bike that hadn't been messed with too much. I'm going to be doing lots of learning with this project myself so I hope you find it interesting. I miss having access to a workshop but the double garage I have now has most of the tools I need, I do pop back to a motorcycle shop I used work at if I need anything specialised. Ian

    Nice bandit mate I'm looking forward to seeing your videos over the next few weeks BTW my way to check a missing cylinder is to pull the air box cover start the bike an spary a little brake cleaner into the carb and that way you can tell both ways if it's a plug or carb problem

    • @Classicmotorbikes
      @Classicmotorbikes  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Philip, I’ve used that trick in the past, I’ve tried a different plug as it was easier than taking the tank off and didn’t make any difference so fingers crossed it’s just the carbs.

    This is gonna be awesome! I can’t wait for this. Looks a really good base for it, have you thought about doing any mods to the fairings as well? Mk1’s are great for tail swaps and you’ve got the TIG now to knock up a new subframe.

    • @Classicmotorbikes
      @Classicmotorbikes  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Been wanting to do this for years! Not sure I’ll chop the frame up on this one but I could always find another frame to attack with an angle grinder.

      Next will be the turbo choice ive gone for a re conditioned td04 13t from a subaru imprezza. This turbo isWell known in the turbo bike community for being the best entry level turbo. (My own research)

    • @randomrides
      @randomrides 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Classicmotorbikes you said it's a bit nice for a project however the turbo is an add on and on its own a discrete part. Everyone will assume it's a basic 1200 till that turbo whistles and it takes off.
      I've just done 1000 miles in 2 days running round but mostly A1 and my 14 year old bandit has done it without missing a beat (one of my mirrors had to be tightened) used a fair amount of fuel but had more than a few minutes of madness....I mean fun which didn't help fuel, and it was loaded up with a topbox, panniers and a tank bag so quite a bit plus my 110kg arse and still pulled like a freight train, I LOVE bandits and MUST have a turbo one if you do lmao 😂😂😂

  • @badtoad66
    @badtoad66 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the same model as this, if you are going to paint it would you consider swapping the side panels as I have a faired version that's converted to naked hence it hasn't got the Bandit logo and 1200 decals. Cheeky I know but if you don't ask!.

    How much time you recomend to run on choke when it is cold? I have a 600 bandit 2001 and i am beginner. Thank's

  • @jimciancio9005
    @jimciancio9005 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bandits even the 600cc engine's are known for eating up spark plugs I'm sure you probably already are aware of?? Being a oil/air cooled engine and the center 2 jugs and head area are surrounded by the 2 outside jugs without any sort of air gaps for cooling, these 2 center jugs are more prone to damage from overheating to the cylinders, head or valve system. But otherwise they're still not very bad engine's overall. They are actually really impressive Power wise especially the 1200cc bikes for anything that's aor cooled..... fact remains though the center 2 cylinders do inherently run hotter than the outside 2 and suzuki knew all about this fact as well long before they ever left a assembly line. The main jets in the 2 center carbs are even smaller than the outside 2. I believe it's by only one jet size? 100's on the outside and 98's in the centers on the 600s anyways? But due to the increased cylinder head temperature especially around the middle of these engines, they do unfortunately eat up the service life of even the best spark plugs. If you're somehow able to get it running and it's just running on 2 cylinders before changing the plugs, make sure your plug wires are connected to the correct spark plug numbers! I've worked on one that had the coils replaced and it was running on only 2 cylinders and spitting and backfiring, but it's was because the previous owner didn't have the firing order correct and 2 were out of phase. Good luck with your build and if you're going turbo with this bike? Suggest you put some money into the clutch system! They're fine stock at around 100hp, but they tend to have a little issue holding up to 150+hp. Good luck Sir.

    That looks a very nice bike! I like the colour too.
    Can't wait to see this getting a turbo and how you do it, and of course how it rides when it's done.
    Is it ok to ask how much it cost without an MOT etc, and will you keep us updated on the cost of the turbo and other mods required to fit it.
    Thanks RR

    • @Classicmotorbikes
      @Classicmotorbikes  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers RR, I love the colour as well, I said on the drive home I wanted to paint it but think it’s a bit too nice for that. I didn’t include the price as if someone is viewing in the future it might not make sense to the market values at that time, I paid £1200 without the MOT. I’ll keep a tally of what I spend on it, I’m interested myself to see what it will cost.

    • @Classicmotorbikes
      @Classicmotorbikes  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Colin, first thing I did when I got home was checked the spark and replaced the plug but no change 😢 really need to get a compression tester, it’s on my list of tools to buy. Fingers crossed it’s just a carb problem.

    • @colinburnside4569
      @colinburnside4569 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep i know it,s a big job. Take the carbs off and put a new carb kit on the carbs. The compression should be about 120 psi on each cylinder.The bottom of the engine will be a sound as a bell. Paint job on the engine mask off the studs etc wire wool and Hi temp black paint. You will have enough to do to put a turbo on this bike. Cheers Ian.
