@TheUkuleleTeacher For now some reason my ukulele won't hammer on. I strum the note. And then drop my finger where it belongs and it's just mute. Any advice on how to fix this?
i can play the chords and the strumming pattern but once i start to sing it all falls apart lol

you are a really good ukulele teacher, and i used your advice for riptide, and i can play it! and i have a recommendation for a song you should teach, and I'm sure a lot of people want to learn it. its Sing by Ed Sheeran. :)
Skylar S I know for a fact at least 56,000 people wanted to learn it... as I posted it last summer! ;-P th-cam.com/video/mA8JvIBwhS0/w-d-xo.html

Thank you as always teacher! I have to cover it up too!
Thanks uke teacher perfect lesson👍❤
That's a badass uke
This is amazing! I'm buying my first ukulele soon! Can't wait to start learning!
You explained the beginning really well, but when you got to the picking but, it made no sense and I think you should have gone through it or actually showed us what your fingers were doing
Ilaria Mocciaro - I agree, I was totally lost on that part.
It's pretty simple.
On the third (C) string, keep your index finger on the second fret for the whole plucky bit.
Pluck the C string once while it's fretted, and then right after while its still kinda ringing, you smack your ring finger onto the fourth fret of the same string
(If you don't know how to hammer-on, you might want to look it up since I'm definitely not doing a good job explaining it)
After that, pluck the second (E) string and then use your middle finger (because your index and ring finger should still be where they were) to hammer onto the third fret of the same string.
Then remove your middle and ring fingers and pluck the C string again, and then an open E string. Just do that whole thing a few times :P

Ilaria Mocciaro it was perfectly clear for me :)
Yeah and like actually show us what your doing. I would understand it so much better if he did.
I luv these videos!!!🤩🤩So helpful!
thanks man, another ripper vid!
Where can I find the songsheet? Btw you're the reason why I started playing ukelele and I love it.
this was my first song on a uke
did you know that for the g chord it's the three end strings well if you take the middle finger away it sounds almost the exact same try it
can you please do a lesson for under the sea
PLEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
i just started and im so confused on how yours sounds so good when you do the g because when i do it all i hear is the the g string and nothing else :( i need help
6:45 enjoy
People are like, "The G chord is easy", but I have such slow beginner fingers it is super hard to transition to.
It's only easy once you know it! It'll take a bit of time before it comes naturally, so just keep practicing and you'll get there eventually :))
I started in 7th grade and it was really hard for me too. Its hard to trasition at first but now I'm going into the 9th grade and I can do it with out looking
Adriana Reyes I commented this on the 2nd, now it's the 24th, I practiced every day, and I can do it flawlessly.
+lifeasjia well done!

Hey so just wondering how in the BLOODY HELL does one go about singing while playing, because every time I start to I totally lose my strum pattern and screw everything up. I literally just started learning to play tonight so I know it'll take time, but damn.
I had this same problem about a month ago, but then I wrote a song and now I can do it :)
Just keep practicing and try strumming and focusing on something else while strumming. You can do it :)
That happened to me, and day after, i could sing with the Strumming

You've helped start ukulele club at my school! This is not the first song we learned though. The first song we learned was hakuna matata which we learned from your video. Lots of kids at my school now either have a ukulele or plan on getting one so the can learn songs in our club. (We have snacks)
I WANT A UKULELE CLUB. AND SNACKS..

I'm really having trouble strumming upward. :/
Emily Porter I had so much trouble strumming up when I started playing too! I know everyone says this but really just keep practicing! I’ve found playing the uke is all about muscle memory so you’ll adjust to it :)
Yh that’s why I use a plectrum I kept a snagging my fingers
Emily Porter same
other than practice, try changing the way you strum

+drake bragg Awesome, best of luck with it!
Does anyone have any tips as to how to learn to strum and sing at the same time? I am having trouble maintaining my strumming rhythm/pattern
it took me awhile to strum and sing but i recommend playing on the ukulele and getting it down whilst being distracted. then try singing.
for me there was never really anything that could teach me to do it. it took me a while, you need to learn to strum pattern and the chord progression really well, then be able to play both with talking or being distracted, then learn the lyrics
(all while strumming) at first just sing the words in your head, then begin to mouth the words, then hum it, and then try to sing it. Just take it slow :)
notmeggiemoo get used to the strumming, then slowly try to sing.
ive been playing songs w/no words to learn the basics
I can't pluck to save my life rip I always touch the other strings and I'm not quick enough :,))
I got so confused at the hammering part I've been replaying it for hours and I still don't know what to do. Help me pls
try to slow down the video to the speed of 0.5 at 3.35 min. Your Welcome
I'm confused as well
I just replay the chords and strum once
Sorry I can’t fix your life after watching this.
I’m just skipping it

I'm gonna keep spamming the comments until he does it.
The finger picking made no sense to me. I can't barely tell where you are supposed to strum on the second string.
Same
Put your finger on the third fret, then strum at the hole in the middle or a bit below

+Kim Do I've had mine for a month and when I go to sing the song my hand is just like, Nah.
Can you please do tear in my heart by twenty one pilots
A 7 min vid but it took me like 7hrs to learn the song
lol same here except i had to sleep
Hey, trying not to sound like a douche here, but this isn't the right way to play (Well, how Vance play's it)
He pretty much tunes it all the way down to the bottom 4 strings of a standard guitar tuning (From top string of ukulele: D, G, B, E) and plays Am, G, C in the form of a guitar. (Thats for live performance. For Recorded version, it's up a fret)
So for Am:
Index on first fret second string (B) middle finger on second fret top string (D) and Ring finger just underneath your middle finger second fret on third string (G).
G
Just the 3rd fret Bottom string (E)
And C
Index finger back on first fret second string (B) and middle finger on second fret top string (D)
So, get the chords of a guitar, and cut out the top 2 strings of it (Since the Ukulele has 4 strings instead of 6)
Same Pattern and everything, just tuning and chords. If you hear the chords of the song, you can tell the chords of the song don't seem to fit the chords on the video
Thanks I'll go his and then your way to see
I was wondering why it sounded right on th eguitar but too bass for the ukulele! thanks
i'm late
How do you change from Am to G so quickly and easily? The transition feels uncomfortable/awkward for me
yes, I have a hard time to..I am guessing it gets easier as we practice
+Vanessa Rodriguez I learned the song within 2 days. It was easier for me to play Am with my index finger. Therefore I could make the transition from Am to G a lot faster and more comfortably
Ok thanks!
+Vanessa Rodriguez no problem, hope it helped!
+AweDelta when I play G I just bar the bottom 3 strings on the 2nd fret with my index finger and I put my middle finger on the 3rd fret of the 2nd string. this makes the transition from A to G much easier and since F isn't used in this song you can use your index finger to make it even easier.
Can you show a tutorial on how to play Welcome to the Black Parade by MCR
This only took me about 2 days to memorize and get down! Thanks so much.
Sapphire Ruby weldone! it took me about 3 days may be 2 and a bit

Hey guys! When I first started learning this, it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done 😂 but I kept practicing and practicing and now I’ve got it and can easily play it.
Basically, just don’t give up! Keep practicing and you’ll get it in no time!
thank you!!! ☺️
ok thank you so much im so tired of all the ppl in comments being like "oh I learned this in two hours its so easy" SHUTUP ITS HARD
Well done!! Currently at the first week stage of picking a Uke up !
Anybody watching this, you should know that the key of C is not the key of the song. If you are playing along and you are wondering why it doesn't sound right it is because Vance plays it in the key of C#. Just a little bit of clarity if you are confused. The only problem is with C# you need all barre chords. If you want to learn it in the same key as Vance check us out, if you are cool with it not sounding like the recording this is an excellent video that break down a nice simple version.
im having trouble switching from A to G quickly yikes
It was for me in the beginning, but now it's one of the easiest chord changes for me. Just practice as much as possible, you'll get it.
alyssa ølinger I just covered this song in my channel, check it out if you've got time✨
I'm still trying to get the hang of it, but it gets easier.
Tip for the finger picking part! you can play 4th fret on the C string instead of open E because they are the same note. It may help or may not, thought I would just put this out there
They're slightly different (at least on a soprano). I'd recommend doing open E, but whatever floats your boat.
Ah, did not take that in account. I play a concert so they sound very similar.
Hannah Perlstein They are the same, just the tuning of the strings is ever so slightly out. If it was tuned perfectly then they would sound identical.
I also need a tip for going from A to G because I don't do it fast enough.
Try sliding your middle finger from Am down to the 0200. And while you're playing Am, keep your index finger ready to move to 0002, and your fourth finger to 0030. Hopefully this will help!
The best way to learn how to go from Am to G is to just practice playing Am and then going to G. Just practice strumming A once and then G once and just go back and forth until it becomes natural :) Hope that helps
I'm having trouble switching from A to G quickly anyone have any tips?
Practice doing the positions, but not pressing down, then once you've got the hang of it, practice doing it pushing down the strings.
Practice slowly transitioning the right way. Eventually speed it up
Sophia Brotons just keep practicing :) I used to be much slower but then I learnt some songs and it was super easy
I put my second finger on the third string instead of my first finger :)
just practice i was like that a few hours ago but i didnt stop playing it and i succeeded lol also when u play A use your first finger instead of your second and yeah idk that worked for me
" it's really easy [hammering]"
Me: oh cool! *tries it*
Me again: wtf, how?
took me like 20 minutes to even figure out how to do it slowly
**Sits in concentration trying to get my beginner fingers to transition to G**
Omg if it wasn't for you and this video I wouldn't have ever been able to learn the ukulele. Which caused me to learn the guitar and the piano so I just wanted to say thank you! :)

Your profile pic is amazing
Lilly Fox mine?
elmexicanochilango yeah I've been playing guitar for years and I got a Uke for Christmas and it's a breeze to play very similar
elmexicanochilango it is! btw, I just covered this song in my channel, check it out if you've got time✨
There's a shallower learning curve than the guitar, once you start learning you can play some tunes within just a few minutes, but it's still an instrument, and it's plenty challenging to get good at it, just like any instrument (apart from like the kazoo or something) It shouldn't be too difficult to transition to it from a guitar though, although if you're used to using a pick, getting used to strumming without one could be challenging, since you don't really use a pick with a uke
I think you should play all the song at the begning. For anyone to know how will it sound.
you can just look it up

Hi so I'm q beginner, and this is the one of the first songs I'm learning, so does it matter if you follow the strumming pattern or not?? Can you just do down or would it end up sounding weird??

Can we appreciate the fact that he is the only one who didn't ignore the little fingerpicking that comes before the bridge :')
You're talking about the Riffs?
@@lfidarraga yeah, the part before the bridge
I find it funny as a guitarist that these people complain about basic chords, when they don't know about Barre chords and how to switch between them smoothly.
And people complaining about using 3 fingers.
A tip I learned myself that I should've done is to find tabs designed for practicing basic techniques and then use that to play songs.
I’ve been playing the ukulele for a really long time and these chords shouldn’t take that long to learn. You should be able to transition from basic chords in a week max. After that, the barre chords are hard on a ukulele too (though not as hard as guitar) even for me. Kudos to you for having the patience I don’t have to play the guitar
Is anyone else having a hard time playing the chorus? I NEED HELP!!!
Is your pic of Gerard Way?!

Emily June Cool - hope you guys have fun!
It says a lot that I got my uke less than 2 hours ago and I have never played an instrument and I already got the intro and chorus down in less that 30minutes...
Julia Venice Sounds like you're a natural! Keep it up!
Julia Venice Lucky you! I can't even strum yet, got it yesterday!
The Ukulele Teacher Yeah. i can barely figure out how to strum with your hand.
Thanks guys! I felt so strange at my first attempt with the G chord! I need to practice and practice, but all your messages give me hope! 😅
How is it today?
I just got a ukulele today and I'm really struggling with playing the chords. Is there any useful tips or things you recommend??
Wrath well if you got it today I doubt playing chords will be easy immediately. Just keep practicing is all the advice you need.
Wrath the best thing I'd say is just try the c f and g chords. Play them as much as you can so that your fingers can get used to playing a string instrument. After that learn Am and Dm. Those are the basic chords that most songs have in them.
I'd say just go slow at first, and then gradually pick up pace as you get better. Just switching between the chord shapes without strumming at all at first can help, too. As cliche and unhelpful as it sounds you really just need to practice and you'll be fine.
start slow
keep trying the G I know it's extremely hard but practice and you'll get it. good luck!
Your videos have helped me a lot! But I always seem to have trouble with strumming patterns. Once I try to sing and play, my strumming gets all messed up, any tips?
I get this problem too. I struggle differentiating between he timing of my voice and my strumming.
I know this is like a month later comment, but it's all about practising the instrument part. You try to focus on the strumming, and the singing at the same time. You just need to practise that strumming pattern so much that you don't even need to think twice before singing. Try this from scratch:
1. Practise that strumming pattern
2. Then when you don't have too much trouble the strumming pattern, practise switching chords while keeping the strumming pattern at the same pace.
3. When you're comfortable with that, play it along with the song a couple times
4. Hum with the song as you play it
5. Hum without the song as you play it
6. By then, you should have the strumming pattern glued to your head.
7. Try singing.
Obviously this isn't going to happen in the space of a day. It took me at least a week to practise Riptide.
Also, this pretty much helps with any song
1LinkEdits Thank you! I have been having this problem for ages! You have really helped me thanks :)
Don't think about the strumming...honestly, it will just come to you........just play and enjoy! :)
I had this problem as well but if you practice the strumming enough it will be natural, you won't have to look and you will be able to sing as well
There's a ton of fantastic Adventure Time songs that are/will totally work on a uke
Is this a good song for beginners to learn?
Alanna C yes this is my first song
Bunny_ ashmeen samee
Yeah, my first song, only has 3 chords for the most part with beginner strumming and an easy to get pace
Hes a very good and thorough teacher, he makes it very simple and easy. But the main riff of this song are not Am G and C (these chords only apply for this song if you are playing it on a guitar). The real riff is D C F. If you try it, it will sound exactly like vance
Not D meant to say Dm
u sure its C? it sounds a bit off
I put a capo on it and it sounds good
Unapologetic Apathy Am G and C work with the Capo on the first fret.
Jason Li do you know what ukulele Vance joy uses for this song?
This is really good! I'm starting to play this song quicker and better. My only problem is the picking that's truly confusing me. Maybe you could do a lesson on it (Or maybe you already have I just haven't seen it...😕) Anyways, thanks so much for the tutorial I'd like to see more!!!!!!
Does anyone else have trouble on the "up" part? My fingers keep getting stuck on the strings.
yea , same . i'm a beginner and it's been pretty easy to follow all of this but the up part always get me

oh yeah its nothing too hard. *fucking breaks uke* shit..
Thank you so very much for making this video. We learned this song in music class on the ukulele in 3rd grade (now I’m in 6th grade) and I forgot it by now. I was the only one who actually played to correctly. I actually have a ukulele but I don’t have it tuned. But thank the lord that you have a tuning video which I can watch!
just got my ukulele yesterday and already can play 4 songs. Thanks Ukulele Teacher!
ANNOUNCEMENT.
To all the people asking for help on the plucking and the G chord. Just practice. Don't try to play the song at first. Do a 100 hammer ons every day. And the chord progression Am-G-C 100 times every day, and before you know it you will sound great!
