Love this game, nowadays it feels like it's a bit underappreciated, especially with all level names and such. Really enjoyed it, but it definitely deserved a bigger audience.
what always bugged me about this game was saving the guy making burgers gives you less points than what he's cooking, meaning his life was less valuable than the player character wanting food
That happens if all the other neighbors are already dead. You only carry over neighbors that you saved to the next stages. The level is over once you save all the live neighbors.
If the monsters kill a neighbor, that neighbor is dead for the rest of the game. If all the neighbors die it's game over. Leaving only one to be rescued saves time since you only gotta get one to finish the level.
You've probably already seen all the other comments, but the exit spawns once you rescue all neighbors in that level. Since number of neighbors left carries over between levels and they only have 1 remaining neighbor, "all neighbors" = "that one neighbor left".
I play this game on the computer. A b c or x y keys do not work for changing weapons and items. I have to finish previous weapons to change. I cannot use the lives I use at all. How can I do that?
@@grimmnekrokvlt The neighbor he chooses to save at the start determines which neighbors he has to save throughout the run. And again, he only wants to save one neighbor so he can only have one person to worry about per stage. He even focused on staying below 40k points, so he wouldn't get another neighbor added to the pool. It's all about that speed, not about saving everyone.
Not good commentary, in my opinion, for not explaining why they only have to save one neighbor each level and other things. Didn't really explain anything but assumed everyone watching understands what speedrunners do this game. "why do we kill neighbours?" "makes us go faster." Great explanation.
Really weird thing to say when literally 30 seconds later Ecdycis explicitly says it's because "He no longer needs to worry about saving all the survivors, he only needs to save all the living survivors."

If the neighbors get eaten they don't come back. So in the first level he had most of them killed. Which speeds up the score screen.

One of my fav games. Why is he letting them die instead of just saving them?
If they are alive he has to run all over the levels saving them each round. Letting them die he only has to save one. This saves a lot of time.

There was 1 neighbor remaining. He saved all of them.
