I got this info from comments but if I remember correctly due to the popularity of persona 4 they removed the smt moniker and arena was the first persona game without it. The smt moniker was just used to help make the persona series
I like Soul Hackers 2 more then persona 5 royal. I enjoy not having to wait 2h of cutscenes to get to the gameplay. I like the characters better too. No idea why persona 5 is a movie more then a game. Persona 4 had a good balance between the 2. Persona 3 same. Persona 5 overindulges in the story and forgets about the gameplay. Soul Hackers 2 is better.
You're the only person I've ever heard say that regarding Persona 5 and I actually agree. The soundtracks not nearly as good either, the game has way too much filler, and Royal made the problems even worse. Persona 5 was also too easy. People are hating on Soul Hackers 2 because they're complaining about repetitive combat and dungeons, and quite frankly all of the games have these features. The original Soul Hackers is also being looked at through nostalgia glasses, it's over 20 years old.
@@Particle_Ghost Ya, I play these games for the actual gameplay, the turn based combat dungeons. I can be okay when they are 50/50, like in Persona 3 or 4. But persona 5 is abusing it. It is literally a movie. The random encounters are repetitive, with the same enemies over and over again inside Momentos. Shin Megame Tensei 5 looks incredible, but I dont a consol. I need to wait and hope it comes to PC

My favorite JRPG is still Tales of Vesperia, but Persona 3/4 and Soul Hackers 2, is definitely my favorite turn-based, with the exception of Divinity Original Sin 1/2, but those are Western RPGs. If you're into action RPGs, two of the best JRPGs to recently come out have gone under the radar, one of them is called Sword and Fairy 7, and the other is Xuan Yaun Sword 7. Fairy plays more like a Tales games and does have more story and dialogue, but there is still a ton of gameplay. Sword 7 plays more like Dark Souls, but there are companions that eventually join you. Just be warned that Sword 7 is insanely hard on the added nightmare difficulty and it can't be lowered once you start, I wouldn't recommend it for a first playthrough. The reviews on both games can be a hit or miss depending on where you look, but they're definitely underrated, just not appreciated by the Western audience. It's hard to judge which one is better, they're both equal in different ways. Definitely give them at look if you haven't heard of them, I would rate them both about a 9.5 out of 10. I'm currently playing through Persona 4 Golden again until Remnant 2 comes out at the end of the month.
As someone who didn’t like persona five but loves all the mainline SMT games and really enjoyed persona four and soul hackers I’m really excited for this

You know, even before the review really started this game had failed me. The font is too small. I'm watching this on the screen I play my games and I can't read the text nor the HP of the characters.
I tried 3 times to get into persona 5 and once more when royal came out and just couldn't get into it, It's aesthetic and UI just didn't vibe with me, more annoying than stylish for me (tho that is certainly a personal preference) and the characters and setting of high school just bored the shit out of me. I might be giving soul hackers a try as what its trying to do and it's style are far more to my liking (Cyber aesthetic)
@@kcadventures1454 Totally agree with you, people shouldn’t evaluate Altus just by persona games. smt V and persona 5 are really different, smt V has that unique lone warrior feeling to it and is mostly gameplay oriented, however the way they organized the game world made it a really immersive experience for me, better than some games with tons of dialogue. Totally recommend it if you like to jump straight into action and exploration and no slice of life stuff like in persona or fire emblem three houses…
That's the beauty and curse of the Megami Tensei franchise. Each series is vastly different. Mainline SMT is less about the story and characters and more about the world and what theology you align with. Persona is way more about the characters and story. Though both have fantastic combat. It just depends on what your more into, and I think SMT 5 will be for you because it has significantly less dialogue and story, the aesthetic isn't in your face, and is significantly more about the gameplay.
same for me, i gave persona 5 multiple times since people tell me it's one of the best jrpg and just couldnt get into it mainly because i really dislike the vibe of the main protagonist (idk how else to explain it, too much edgy teen shit for me). I tried soul hackers 2 and liking it so far, even when I am not really great fan of turn based rpgs.

Elden Ring, Final Fantasy SOP, Ninja turtles, Cult of the Lamb, Neon White, Xenoblade 3, and GOW R around the corner. Not to mention soul hacker today. The persona games are finally getting released to the masses. Switch and Xbox for the first time. It’s been an amazing year.
Add to above horizon forbidden west, been a decent year. Obviously it's opinion, but between elden ring, xenoblade 3, horizon and god of war (hopefully good) it's been a decent year. I think it falls a bit flat because the double AA titles have been weak and multiplayer games (now known as live service games) have taken a nose dive. Although FFXIV endwalker (very end of last year I know, I still count it) was a great expansion.
feel the reviewer only played P5 and never played the OG soul hacker or any of the orginal shin megami series cause the "issues" are what make those games different from each spin off. Few games are ever connected but the gameplay is the one thing that ties to each series. I got a real fan would not of complained as much as they know the series

The dungeons kinda remind me of mementos and p3/4 dungeon linearity. Bit disappointed that there could be more fun stuff done with the dungeons or more open space like smtv or environment in smtiv based on first impressions IMO. Also is there no fast-forward or skip battle animations in the combat?
didnt expect it to look a bit more like tokyo mirage. but i like the look. somewhat hollow or simplistic in terms of world. close to digimon story games. cant wait to try it.

Play shin megami tensei 4 and 5 then. They are alot more mature than the persona games. Shin megami tensei 3 nocturne is also really good. persona 3 is probably worth checking out but otherwise I feel like persona is not as good as the mainline SMT games

Persona 5 is Atlus’ golden child. I would love a direct sequel to Persona 5R, though I know we won’t. At least we got strikers. Joker and gang, for me, will always be the best team for a JRPG.
Except atlus didn't develop 13 sentinels, they only published it, vanillaware developed 13 sentinels, just like both bandai namco and square enix, atlus is a publisher who also develops some of their games, and they have various 1st party and 3rd party studios to develop other games

Oddly persona 5 was one of my less favorite Atlus games. Not because it wasn’t amazingly good, but I just didn’t like the feel and look as much as some other atlus games. I guess it was too jazzy.
I fell out with SMT5. I was having fun but then a HUGE difficulty spike kicked in and I just couldn't be bothered with the grinding exp for levels. It could just be my old ages lol. I played smt3 maybe 5 times. I should jump back on SMT5, put it on easy and play for the story. I got tired of managing the monsters to. At least the main character's female in this game. Every other game revolves around a guy. We need a female option in Persona 6.

I can probably go as far saying it’s the worse game under the SMT umbrella(Digital Devil Saga, Devil Summon, Devil Survivor, and Strange Journey. Even the Persona games where better). P5 is a dungeon crawler. Soul Hackers is just like Persona 5, almost a clone with a different plot. It has the same elements of social interaction and the same turn-based battles. It even has the same persona designs. It possibly has the same problems too: like the extremely long main game. Soul Hackers 1 was even longer than P5.

Soulhackers needs to find a middle ground between the life sime that is persona and the existancial crisis that is SMT.

If you played Soul Hacker in 3DS... Compare to the PS4/PS5 version, this game looks more perfect than the previous one🤷

Soul matrix is terrible and the story dungeons aren’t the best either. I like the combat and the story is decent. I would give it a 6 or 7 out of 10.

SMT V is probably the worse entry in the series. The only advantage it truly has is it’s availability and that Atlus is more mainstream now
I haven’t played the others but SMTV is the best game I have played in the last 5 years.

I can probably go as far saying it’s the worse game under the SMT umbrella(Digital Devil Saga, Devil Summon, Devil Survivor, and Strange Journey. Even the Persona games where better). Note it wasn’t horrible game but it wasn’t very good when compared to the other games

ahhhh bummer. i was hoping it was like persona 5 but a dungeon crawling game just sounds kind of boring. it looked nicely animated but i wouldnt want to spend my money on this unfortunately.

P5 is a dungeon crawler. Soul Hackers is just like Persona 5, almost a clone with a different plot. It has the same elements of social interaction and the same turn-based battles. It even has the same persona designs. It possibly has the same problems too: like the extremely long main game. Soul Hackers 1 was even longer than P5.
