    What a fantastic picture you have on such an old TV ,going to be interesting how clean it looks inside, last time saw an A823 I was still at school,I lived in a large victorian house and had a workshop on the very top floor ,over the road from my house I spotted a load of TV sets in the back yard of the local TV repair shop one night ,so I knocked on the door as the owner lived above the shop after a short delay, came down and I asked if he was getting rid of them and he said yes you can have them on one condition,you have to take the lot,and there was something like 7-8 Tv s,so one by one I carried them across the main road and 3 floors up into my workshop in the attic and there was a few Bush A823 s,but on removing the backs every one had the CRT neck smashed off,years later I spoke to the engineer who use to work at the shop and he told me it was there standard practice to knock the neck off the CRT so they didnt cause a loud bang when they were crushed in the dustbin waggon.

    It's an honest to god channel JJ, just you in your shed, playing about. That's what appeals.
    If people want slick production and immaculate restos, there are other channels for that-it's good to see one of our own at this craic as well, there's not a lot of us in Ireland, but still sizeable numbers.
    A thousand subs by Paddy's Day!

    Good old set, no doubt a few replacement caps will sort it out, Would be good to see the chassis.

    Those Bush a823 sets were mainly average picture wise .I can remember those tuner nuts going brittle and unable to retuned etc happy days lol

    I'll have to admit the A823 was (alongside the the Thorn 8500) one of my least favourite of the early UK colour chassis. Average picture quality and styling, a bitch to work on and not much more reliable than a hybrid. However, great to see one rescued and up and running after all these years, it should respond to some minor TLC. Thanks for the videos and keep up the good work. Cheers! Ian E

    Not bad greyscale in comparison with the little Panasonic. Shame it was skipped; one man's trash..you know the rest! And good to see this channel growing steadily. I mean there's channels on here with several-thousand subscribers, and they don't do anything that differently. If you build it, they will come! :)

    We had quite a few of these at VisionHire. They could look about as good as a G8 Philips if you had a decent one. I think Murphy used the same chassis in the "Acoustic Deluxe" which was a 22" set with a large white cabinet - huge loadspeaker and the controls along the top.

    My first "fix or scrap" set was an A823 - a 1969 original, as it happened. It was never working when I had it, but I did find a burned out resistor on one of the big capacitors after a friend had started stripping it for interesting parts. They never were amazing at the side of others but were good sets in their way. Knowing what I know now, I actually wonder why my grandfather had a Tandberg instead of one of these, as he worked for a related company and might have been able to get one cheap. Rank never built single standard colour sets with valves, but did of course build dual standard ones. By the look of things, this is a VHF equipped set - it would have needed to be to get RTÉ back then of course.

    BTW this is newer than my current showpiece set that is coming up to 50 years old next year (a Hitachi CSP 680). Current plan is to have it working at least in black and white by Christmas.

    • @IrishvintageTVRadio
      @IrishvintageTVRadio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hitachi often worked for 20 plus years and never had the back off.

      @@IrishvintageTVRadio This particular one was apparently put away for nearly 40 years just because the aerial socket broke. Obviously a few things are showing their age (capacitors) or the effects of long disuse (the tuner).

    Thats a nice set, shame it ended up in a skip :-(
    Ahh the old push button and rotate tuners, they worked ok as i remember.
    I seem to have a very slight memory of a bar that connected to maybe a tuning cap inside the tuner.
    The position of the bar moved with each button pressed.
    Something like that, i havn't seen that type of tv since i was a kid, a loooooong time ago lol.
    The eht on that set is doing a good dance lol, maybe some of the capacitors need time to reform a bit.
    Yep the colour decoder is having a bad hair day :-D
    The hot cup damage, it looks like the top varnish layer to me, i dont think its too hard to fix.
    Sorry long waffle, ill leave you in peace now.

    Love your style and content just right for my era your work shop looks cosy and proper old school with the mirror. My only criticism is ths sound it is rather muted and muffled my hearings not so hot these days but I can hear shango66, Glasslinger Buzz David tipton or Mr Carlson fine you are up there with them, Mr Carlson's mic is a bit OTT though, would a lapel or boom mic help?

      The difference between myself and
      those channels you mention is money. They are making money off youtube so can afford microphones, camcorders, etc. I hope to get better equipped soon.

    • @triodehexode
      @triodehexode 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      True those channels have been going for ages I flick between them and your self and that's how I notice the difference in level. Your content is great. Have you thought of doing an article on some of the sets that were made in Ireland, Waltham and Philco/Airmec did Bush have a plant there also?

      Glad you like the channel, I see you have some Nilfisks. Great machines especially the GS series. The GA was good if a little underpowered.

    • @TheCleanersCupboard
      @TheCleanersCupboard 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@IrishvintageTVRadio yeh man, although they’re a bit harder to find over here. The GS80 is a nice compromise between the earlier GA and newer models, they’re still very usable machine.

    • @IrishvintageTVRadio
      @IrishvintageTVRadio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Loads of them here or at least there were. John was a repair agent for Nilfisk and repaired all manner of vacuum cleaners alongside the TV end of things so I'm fairly familiar with them. We used to run in the bushes on about 100 volts for 2 or 3 hour's when we replaced them, saved arcing on the cummutators.

    • @TheCleanersCupboard
      @TheCleanersCupboard 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@IrishvintageTVRadio I’ll be the first to admit, I’ve not had the balls to strip one of those down yet. Got a feeling it would end in tears. Or lots and lots of Nilfisk pieces.
