    Just found your videos, well done. I live in Dayton and bike these trails, glad you like them. Now I have to watch all of your videos, thanks for creating them.

    Another good one you folks. Looks like a lovely trail but doubt I will get to ride it - a looong way east for us B.C.'ers. I appreate how each segment is just a little different in focus. Ride safely.

      Thanks! It is a lovely trail. But luckily for you there's a lot of great riding in your neck of the woods.

    Awesome video! Thank you for bringing us along on your OTET excursion. Great mix of live action and narration. This really gives me a sense of what the trail is like. Cheers! - John

    Love your videos! A question: did you make up your own route as you went? I’m thinking of doing a trip of rail trails - Cowboy Trail, Katy Trail, OTET, and the Erie Canal. I’d drive in between. Thanks for the inspiration!

    • @TheBicycleTourists
      @TheBicycleTourists  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a basic route mapped out in advance, with broad alternate routes depending on the situation on the ground. Loosely, I was trying to follow the GART, but with my own alternates. The Katy instead of going through Iowa. The Erie Canal instead of the GAP. And then figure out roads in between. As you go east there are many more alternatives if you want to stick to trails. the west can be tough, between Montana and, say Nebraska. I hope to do a video on how we mapped all this out.

    How many miles a day do you average? How many breaks a day do you take and for how long?

    • @TheBicycleTourists
      @TheBicycleTourists  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Of course it depends. Between 30 and 60 for us. We take rest days once a week, maybe more. We break whenever we feel the need, or an opportunity arises, like a good rest stop or ice cream place. Perhaps the best thing about this kind of travel is that you find yourself going with the flow. We don't over exert ourselves, we don't have a fitness goal or anything. It's all for enjoyment.

    A great ride with no traffic. Nice :) I can't get my head around that place that didn't allow bicycles though. What was that all about eh??

    • @TheBicycleTourists
      @TheBicycleTourists  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It seemed they were bothered by bikes being on their property? I've seen similar here in Denver off bike trails, signs that say basically don't park your bicycle here, this is for customers in cars.

    The sun hat for the bike helmet. Where did you get that?

      That, my friend, is called a "Da Brim" and is found online and many bicycle shops.

    I have been watching the last couple of episodes. I plan to watch the rest of the series. Very nice videos. Nothing but blue skies, scenic America, and positivity. Thanks for making them. Fyi they have stick on readers that turn any sunglasses into bifocals.

    Enjoyed the video - I'm looking to ride the OTET in October, and this is the closest I can find to someone riding it in the fall! In the credits section, I noticed that Roland's last name is my last name spelled backwards - what an interesting coincidence!

      Very interesting! The OTET in autumn will be beyond lovely. Such an awesome ride. My favorite stretch was actually on the road sections in Holmes County, just southwest of Killbuck. Some of the prettiest scenery I've ever seen. Enjoy!

    Catching up on my usual Friday viewing a little late this week. It was Giovanni that you met on the trail in this episode who told me about you two and your cross-country ride! : ) So glad the three of you crossed paths and that he shared your adventure with me. I’m so enjoying your journey! (It was especially heartwarming to hear how much you enjoyed Cincinnati and the surrounding areas!)

    Your trip reports just keep getting better and better. For me, this is the most enjoyable yet. Maybe it's just because you seem like you were really in your touring groove and relaxing more.

    • @TheBicycleTourists
      @TheBicycleTourists  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I struggle with what to keep in and what to lose. Too much or too little scenery? Too much or too little talking? I'm glad you liked the balance here. After a couple of months, we were definitely relaxing and feeling our groove. Amazing what that kind of open time can do for your head.

    I could hardly wait for this part, as you're now on portions of the GART that I biked. I hope you love it as much as I did. Ohio has an excellent bicycle trail system, and apparently blue tailed skinks as well. I never saw one of those cute little guys on my trip, but I was there in the Fall, which may have been a factor. Enjoy!

    • @TheBicycleTourists
      @TheBicycleTourists  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't know that was his name. Always good to know what you're dealing with. Such a cute little guy. Thanks for the knowledge.

      @@TheBicycleTourists I am no expert. Because I have one, I can identify several types of tortoises, but that is as far as it goes. I thought your little cutie was a skink, but confess that I had to look him up in a North American Field Book to be sure.
