PFF has totally shifted their show which honestly I kind of respect the fact that they didn’t try to just replace Sam and Steve because obviously they couldn’t… Trevor is cool, but I like him better on his other podcast
It's not hindsight. There are plenty of people that said, at the time, that drafting Penix and signing Kirk was dumb. You could understand doing 1 or the other, not both. I don't know why Steve has such a hard time admitting that it was a bad route to take. The only defense that would make sense, is that this was ownership meddling and the FO people didn't actually want to sign Kirk in the first place.
having a vet QB while not starting a rookie day 1 isn't crazy everyone was so hung up on this "4 year contract" but it was obvious that it was actually a 2 year commitment that would be easy to get out of after 1 year if they wanted.... in a landscape where QBs get $55-60M like it's nothing, where the Broncos just paid Russell Wilson $85M to go away then made the playoffs, what Cousins got relatively isn't even that much
@@magnusnaisu It's not actually dumb if you're able to think ahead. What do you need the cap space for? To be competitive? Why not try to be competitive with the best QB option you can? When they paid Kirk they couldn't even be sure they would get Penix in the first place
@@magnusnaisuIt’s not dumb if Penix Jr is actually good. He’s on a rookie deal so if he plays like a top 10 QB they aren’t overpaying for production. There's a major difference between using picks on Josh Rosen and Kyler Murray in back to back years and drafting Penix one month after paying Cousins 90 millions: Kyler Murray wasn't drafted by the same GM+coach as Josh Rosen, so they can say "the previous FO made a mistake, we will fix it" What the Falcons did was: the GM spent starter money on a QB and one month later said "I'm not sure if I did my job right, but if I spend more, PROBABLY I'll do a good job". If I was an owner, I wouldn't hire to be my GM somebody that says to me "the odds that I did a good job aren't better than anyone else"
Turns out falcons were correct to draft a qb kirk is cooked when hes not playing the bucs 😂😂😂 its crazy how fast he went from 500 yards vs the bucs to fully cooked

I watched penix for 2 years and from his first throw at UW 22 yard deep out from the far side of field on a string about 72 mph no problem first down the draft order should have went Maye Daniel's-Penix can't go wrong
Both signing kirk and drafting penix was always going to have been a mistake because it completes caps their upside. If kirk is good and penix doesn’t play until kirk’s contract ends (when mp is 28), then they wasted the opportunity to take the first defender off the board when their pass rush has been horrible over the last decade. If kirk flops and they have penix as contingency, then the dead cap hit they’ll eat defeats the purpose of the rookie contract. Completely self imposed problem
“Drake maye has been spectacular” >25th graded quarterback in pff he is Daniel jones according to your boys at pff and yet the glaze never ends “He’s amazing in a terrible situation” No he is bad in a terrible situation; when you grade him on a curve for being a rookie in a terrible situation and bump him up to “amazing” you no longer can include his situation in his eval because you already did it when grading him on a curve
If Penix Jr plays at a top 8-10 QB level the Falcons front office is vindicated. Cousin’s bad cap hit becomes irrelevant if Michael Penix Jr gives them 12+ years of elite QB play and especially if he’s a better QB than anyone they could have drafted for QB of future in next 2-3 drafts
It just doesn't make sense to pay the slightly above average kinda QB big money and also draft another QB. There was no need to sign kirk. Especially if you're gonna hedge and draft one. Sure it may work out but thats not really the point, the point is finding the most efficient way to build a roster that has long term success. This is not that. If we only care about the results of things after everything has played out then why are we even talking about this at all? We can just look at standings after each season and have that information with little to no discussion at all. Theres a lot of holes on the roster that kirk money coulda helped fill. If you want penix but want him to sit then you dont sign kirk and you dont throw penix in at the end of the season asking him to save your playoff chances.
while people were like "4 year contract! Penix will be 28 before he starts! blah blah blah", i said from the second Penix was drafted that Cousins would be a 1 year starter turns out even THAT was giving him too much credit lol ... and who cares about the money ownership forced a splash move, management made a big picture decision despite that and it's gonna prove to be the right one, so sitting around counting how much money a billionaire paid Cousins for this short stint is a waste of time lol who cares, the Broncos paid Russ $85M to go away and they're making the playoffs with a rookie QB, the Falcons aren't anywhere CLOSE to being in that big of a hole with the Cousins money.... Ppl just don’t believe in Penix the prospect but they didn’t want to go on record saying it just in case he plays well so they can hide behind them just disagreeing with the process. No one would say it was a bad draft pick if they thought Penix Jr could be best QB in entire NFC within a couple years or better than any QB they could have realistically drafted in future drafts

That rant about the Christmas game was the best shouty show segment ever. Great job finding that. It really ticked every box

I like the show, but it needs more ad reads. There was actually some NFL stuff in between them and I do not like that
Agreed!!!
agree ad reads are normally bearable but it was particularly obnoxious this episode lol
jesus christ it got even worse. had to be like 8 ads that episode
