- If your BMW is due for a coolant change then you should also replace the hose and flange that are prone to breaking and could leave you stranded. Better yet upgrade the flange to a metal one and never worry about it again.

My E46 sometimes does an automatic coolant flush when my coolant tank decides to explode 😂
Bro, the car tells you when you need it/ who needs all that digital warning lights/ I’m 3 coolant expansion tanks in only 40k miles 😂😂
@@albertoaguilar704 hell yeah brother you love to see it 😂
My 2000 Nissan Sunny is on its original coolant overflow reservoir. 23 years, and more than 200k miles. And it's made of plastic.
@@labourlawact7826 I dont know why it’s soo bad on an e46
@@AP-PHOTOS BMW make use of cheap and thin plastic.
I’ve never done a coolant flush in any of my BMWs because they’ve all leaked coolant anyways so it stays fresh
My N52 is leaking rn 😂😭
@@abdullahjabbar8673 mine is also. Coolant and oil
@@johnnychimpo7539 for oil: have you checked your oil filter housing and oil cooler gasket?
@@abdullahjabbar8673 the oil filter housing gasket was replaced. Apparently it can drip on the belt and the belt slides off and could get sucked into the engine
I know it’s leaking from the oil pan and the rear main seal. I have no clue where the coolant is leaking. It’s weird, I haven’t added any in a good month but prior to that I had to top it off like every 2-3 IF it’s cold out. It doesn’t get low when it’s warm. Maybe the radiator has a crack
It’s just not worth putting 2k or 3k into. It also needs some suspension attention but it drives good enough. 140k miles, so not too bad
@@johnnychimpo7539get the vtt crank seal guard I’m pretty sure they make it for the n52, previous owner did it on my 335 and my belt ate shit and broke cause of a leaking ofhg that wasn’t done properly 🤦🏾♂️. Drove home and no issues, no belt sucking in cause of the guard protecting it. 😂😂
Almost all BMW's also have a drainvalve in the bottom of the radiator and you have a drainplug in your block on the exhaust side.
So many people miss the block drain. I know I did the first time.
Also if you’re coming up on 70k miles, try to sell it ASAP.
😂
I got my E46 at 68K and it is still in almost showroom condition
@@Turbo_The_Femboy_Fox yeah but wait until it starts falling apart. I had an E60 that was babied and regularly maintained. I loved that car. There are so many plastic parts that just fail after awhile on BMWs. Just wait.
@@Houndzee oh I know, those are maintenance items.
@@Houndzeecause the e60 is garbage
My e38 has a dedicated drain plug on the bottom of the radiator 😐
They all do this video is just ridiculous
The more I watch these videos the less I want a bmw lol
If you do want one, lease it and keep re-leasing it every 3 years. As you can see you practically have to remove the motor just to do a coolant flush. Lol 😂 that can get expensive out of warranty
@@NealDownBtch Not the way we flush it at the dealer, matter of fact we don't. Bmw OEM coolant is rated for lifetime lol. Second of all removing a wheel well liner isn't removing the engine. Not even close
@@saucon751 Lifetime of what? And what is the length of that "lifetime"?
@@ferongr lifetime of the engine, until it blows up. Same thing for "lifetime" transmission fluid it's until the transmission dies due to under lubrication 🤣
It’s “lifetime coolant” because they know the cooling system will explode on its own from any of those plastic fittings we saw in this video and you’ll get fresh coolant anyway.
I remember the BMW automatic coolant flush aka the exploded coolant reservoir.
While that my 1988 Mitsubishi still has the factory plastic coolant reservoir in it and even the weather stripping is still flexible
Really! I have the N20 motor in my 2015 428i Coupe and I’ve been thinking about doing this for awhile. Glad to know how easy this is!!
Thank you fritz I forgot to mention how amazing you are brother.
Happy to help! Hope you are doing well
@@DuckMcDuckinson Thanks man. I appreciate you!
I recommend vacuum flush if you’re going to go through all the trouble of doing your own service get the right tools and do it yourself can’t get air bubbles and you’ll clean just as good or better
Man, you're just an angel coming from the skies to help m2 owners like me. Keep up this good work
Thank you. If you have an S55 I believe it's on the passenger side
@@FritzRamos I have an N55. I intend to change all the plastic pipes during my next coolant flush.
There is a BMW special tool that vacuum fills and bleeds the system. No mess. Also to the folks that pull off the spring clip off the hoses stop doing that you’re doing it wrong. Clip is not meant to be snapped off like that, rather pull up in a lever action with a small pocket screw driver to its resting point. The spring must …and I repeat, must be pressed in all the way before engaging the hose on the quick connect. The BMW repair manual shows a photo with the word audible to ensure it’s connected correctly. Failure to do this will cause frowns and sad faces.
On the E90, why wouldn't you just use the drain plug in the front radiator?
N54 owner here. Yeah, my thoughts exactly. However, I don't think I've drained my coolant more than once in the 2 and a half years I've owned the car. I usually have a leak that'll do it for me! 🤣
Taking the coolant fill cap is much better than using the bleed screw, much faster water flow also some the resivour is above the radiator or the thermostat that’s pretty much standard on e30s and several other chassis. But anyone reading remove the coolant fill cap you will get every last drop. Especially on the systems I described.
At 70,000 miles the coolant is the least of your worries....think timing chain
lmao what? no
At 70k, you still have 130k miles more until you start worrying about that
@@jonathansmith7306 did one on Monday 68,000 miles fsh. Loose as , guide snapped driver stopped as soon as it rattled. Saved engine. Great money earner do one or two a week. Keep up the good work BMW.
I remember when you first did this on the 328i which started off good but then was an absolute mess 😂
Yeah, lesson learned lol. Hopefully others don't have to deal with that
I have 300K on my Kia lol, never changed the coolant, still drive like a champ.
dude change it, I have a kia forte koup and I change it
cool happy Afternoon
Confused me at first, my N55 only has one auxiliary radiator behind the arches and it’s an oil cooler. Seems some cars have both oil and coolant auxiliary rads, one each side.
I already know every mechanic shop would complain and jack up the price for having to take off those 14 bolts.
Of course, i'd charge an hour for a 20 min job (with drain pliugs is just that quick).
Best video ever seen 😄😄
Good tip thanks
Lmaooo imagine needing to do this like at all? My 2002 Ford Escape v6 with nearly 200k miles hasn’t had a coolant change in forever and sometimes we just fill it up with mostly sink water and it runs perfect, well as good as it can at 200k 😂.
No need to flush anything on the N54 ; just wait for the radiator neck to disintegrate like soaked cardboard and blow coolant everywhere then replace radiator; repeat process as the coolant hose going into the engine block does the same .. now you have a complete automatic flush.
Bmw highly highly recommends using a tool to create vacuum and suck the coolant in. If not Air bubbles can and will get trapped. In our repair instructions they tell us to use one of those tools, suck in the coolant THEN do the bleeding process. The way you are doing it is against OEM recommendations.
I heard u can just fill it then open up bleeder screws while the water pump is bleeding the coolant and taking out all the air and when it stops bubbling and starting coming out in a flow then u tighten the bleeder screw back up and then top off more coolant if need more and ur done
My cobalt was a breeze to flush.. even got most of the air out cuz you can just squeeze the radiator hose and watch the bubbles come out in the overflow 😂
Can you show us how to do a coolant flush on 2014 to 2019 Lexus IS350 RWD? Thank you!
Orrrrr the E39/E38/E46 which just has the drain plug right there on the bottom driver's side of the rad. Takes a minute to jack the car up evenly and a couple to drain. Helps if you take the expansion tank cap off.
You can add pressure to completely flush the coolant
I used Zerex G48 coolant in a BMW. Nearest dealer charged too much for the same product.
Did 3 coolant flushes on my N55 in less than 70k mi.
1 normal coolant flush
1 when the thermostat failed stuck open and had to be replaced
Then 1 more when the electric water pump got shorted out and had to be replaced
😂😂
As long as one changes their coolant in a timely manner they should have little to no issues with their cooling system imo
My N52 had a radiator drain plug. No panels needed to be removed on there
My '95 Jeep has a coolant tap on the bottom of the radiator. My '47 and '48 Fords both have coolant taps on the bottom of the block. My 1923 Mack has coolant taps in both spots. Perhaps there's some form of technology that BMW could have used that was better than 'rip lines apart and pray that none of the plastic breaks'.
What about the drain plug at the exhaust side engine block? There is much more than a gallon in the car.. 😢
Only in 3 hours :)))
I do it in my Renault in 10 minutes with taking out main coolant pipe with pliers.
Would this also be an option fot the N20 platform? Or is it just for the N26 + N55
The B on BMW is what makes this car the way it is
Is it also do to g20? I do have 2020 BMW 330i but they have 2 coolant container.
That little box is not an auxiliary radiator, that is your heater core, just like the thing that sits in front of it is the condenser
Go ahead and explain how a heater core there is going to heat the cabin. 🤣
Petcock has been around for ages people use them.
First time ive ever seen a BMW with Lug nuts instead of bolts
BMW using technology other manufacturers have used for 30 years 🤯🤯😳😳😩😩
Bmw coolant is concentrated, mix with 50/50 distilled water
Hey I did this and I still getting oil in my coolant reservoir don know what to do anymore I replaced oil housing gaskets both of them head gaskets seal and I still keep getting oil
Anyone can help I would b be very appreciated it
That’s just a drain and feel not a actual coolant flush but you do you at least you knew to crack the bleeder screw so you don’t hydro lock your motor I would have put a spill free funnel with the heat on high make sure they no trapped air pockets then test drive it with the heat off to make sure it doesn’t over heat but no will leave out the important stuff
Tbh, it sucks, but it really sucks. Why not attach a drain plug somewhere? Less mess, way cleaner job. Don't forget to put a new oring in that quick connector if you do this.
Does a 08 n54 have this option?
Bmws don’t have a drain plug on the bottom of the radiator? That seems crazy to me, all vehicles I’ve owned have a drain plug at the bottom of the radiator.
So much extra work though
Or just remove the return line and keep topping up the reservoir. No air added then
My corolla had its engine replaced at 50 thousand miles with a brand new one. Head gasket blew lol.
Maybe do your scheduled maintenance next time.
@@David-id2ks It was a manufacturing defect, had it fixed under warranty.
@@Sodapopper100 Interesting. What year?
@@David-id2ks 2016! I got it in 2019 with 32k on the clock. Did oil changes at 5k or 6 months and got its transmission drained and filled at 45k. Did everything by the book :/
@@Sodapopper100 Maybe the person before you didn't. You'd have to neglect Toyotas to kill them. They very rarely have issues like that.
So 1 gallon u got about 40 percent of what's actually there so what was the point
Who flushes coolant ? Until there is some problem in coolant system period
If you jack up, only one side of the car, most of the coolant won’t drain out because it’s leaning towards the other side simple physics
Then lower it with the jack as it drains
@@FritzRamos while the bucket is underneath the car or how or remove the bucket as well haha

Sooo what about the rest of the coolant that's in the block 🤨
1 gallon?
Do more videos.
By 70k a hose or clamp should fail and have a self flush by the time it's at 70k,especially new stuff 🤣
Yeah mine leakes so i jsut ad water
The radiator has a drain plug on it
And where is the flush proces?
That's crazy to do a coolant fish and not make a mess you gotta remove a damn wheel.
Everyone can make clean radiator flush. Now i challenge you to take one car or machine runned minimum for 30 years on water, lets go that would be proper flush
Ahh thats why there a nightmare to bleed ans over heat all the time
I rather be messy than screw all that
New BMWs are such a pain.
bro i’m at 225K on my Toyota 4Runner never changed the coolant and have absolutely no problems with it
Its better to be messy then to be going to do like you did 👀
god bles
My m235i keeps overheating after I start driving , before it happen one of my hoes broke of n leaked my antifreeze. Got it replaced n put the hose back on n bleed it but now it’s overheating. Do you know why ?
You didn't really flush the system You just drained it. At minimum take a freshwater hose to one of those tubes and run water through it till it comes out and then you flushed the system. Then you can refill it.
That doesn’t get it all out , attach A cheap pressure tester to the tank and keep adding pressure , it’ll get it all out quick
My radiator has a drain plug
Let me learn you something you probably didn’t know.
I’m a BMW senior technician and you are both right and wrong. Yes the old old VERY old cars need to change fluid or if the car have been standing. These modern cars and as in your case a F3x series, you don’t need to change the fluid. Not even if it stayed chillin for few years. They called lifetime coolant and specially the HT12 coolant. And to be clear, you don’t get out the “ 3-4 liters “ coolant by doing your method.
And last of all, you made a TH-cam video showing people to change their coolant fluid after xxx miles witch is actually a “ scam “ AND you didn’t fill your coolant to he max or not even between min&max. You are bellow the minimum. Perfect level on these coolant house’s are right at the middle.
I do understand that amateurs don’t know such thing when these coolant houses don’t tell you where the max & min are, just letting you know before you get a warning light on the dash or as we BMW technicians say code “166”
You hade a great day sir.
Don’t rip off other BMW owners 😩
There is no such thing as “lifetime coolant”. That’s a scam.
The dealership you work for fed that lie to you for breakfast and you ate it up with a smile.
Buy Volvo, they have drain screws in raidiator
Toyota and Lexus as well!
No it's easy to do it from the front side it doesn't matter if it's messy it is just a water not oil haha 😆 who agreed
Bro you just drained the radiator that is no coolant flush. All the coolant is trapped in the block and likely heater core unless the plumbing is really well designed. No getting it out of the block unless you pull the thermostat tho. Don’t believe everything you hear kids…
th-cam.com/video/CVAUlvxrtOo/w-d-xo.html
Bruh my e90 just has a drain plug for it lol
Bro wtf why not drain the radiator from the drain plug???!!??
If you get to 70,000 miles of BMW plastic car 😂
What a stupid plastic pos
😆 and damned expensive plastic at that.
@@phonotd Expensive plastic that goes brittle in two years.
I mean, if you're going to totally skip draining the block. . . passanger side just below the exhaust ports, you'll find a 19mm bolt that is the block drain. . .
Drain and fill**
Thats not a jack point thats where the stands go to hold it
It serves both purposes and according to BMW it is

Hello!
Would this be similar in a B58 F30?
I believe so, the B58 is on the passenger side from what I remember
Yet they break dow easily.
How about replacing the engine thermostat(s) as a precautionary measure? Radiator or coolant expansion tank cap?
You might as well take the engine apart
Rather buy a Toyota or Lexus, and it's much much easier. It seems everything on BMW is made from plastic.
La dee da fancy... I use rust
Bmw coolant is supposed to be lifetime, it's literally pointless to do this
