MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to offer the rarely seen 1959 Mercedes Benz 220S Sedan you see pictured. This car was luxurious by the standards of the late 50s and still oozes extravagance! The basic design of the car was not changed until 1969 because why mess with perfection?
This wonderful Mercedes is a very well-traveled one: it benefitted from a mild restoration in 2007 by M/S Auto Air in Perungudi, Chennai, India. The work was done internationally as “the work was no longer undertaken by shops in the US due to the car no longer being in production.” We have a stack of receipts for the work performed as well as many transportation receipts and Bill of Laden receipts. The prior owner knew of a competent restoration shop in India and they did a very nice job overall.
Finished in classic black, it is very apparent that this paint is indeed VERY old and original in some places. There are imperfections, such as small rock chips and small places where the original paint has rubbed thin. Overall, the paint does show very well to be 55 years old! The chrome trim pieces and bright-work are intact and look great with a beautiful shine and only minor imperfections! All of the glass on this car is intact. This is a seriously handsome vintage Mercedes!
Inside, the seats and door panels appear to have been recently reupholstered and it looks absolutely wonderful. The seats have been wrapped in bright red vinyl and show no major signs of wear or tear anywhere to be found. The color of the interior is high contrast in comparison to the black paint on the outside of the car and it looks incredible. The door panels, carpet and headliner are also in comparable shape and look great. The dashboard is finished in an absolutely gorgeous wood finish and also contrasts the bright red interior. The dash houses a set of original, period correct Mercedes gauges, as well an an AM/FM radio. The interior shows fantastic!
Under the hood, you’ll find the 2.2L straight six cylinder engine, complete with the hard to find dual carburetors. Mated to the engine is a 4-speed manual transmission that is shifted through the column. The sedan sits upon a set of 13” steel wheels with Mercedes Benz hubcaps that are wrapped snug in a set of 175/70R13 tires that look great.
Included with the purchase of this classy sedan is the original Type 220S Owner’s Manual, the original California title, lots of import/export/customs letters and a stack of receipts from the restoration that was done in India.
As mentioned, this is a rarely seen Mercedes sedan that is a true survivor of time. This car would make a wonderful addition to just about any car collection or as a classic Sunday driver! The VIN is 180010109504069 and the mileage currently shows 47,477. It is being sold on a clean and clear Missouri title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!

Horn ring is upside down (rotated 180º). When correctly installed, the bars are parallel to the two beams of the steering wheel. Horn ring was also the turn signal switch before 1959, and later on some overseas examples. My family's 1959 180 had the American-market Mercedes turn signal lever in today's standard position. The horn ring's previous turn signal duty required a raised tab you could reach with your thumb, without taking your hand from steering the car, but on ours, even when new, that function was blocked out. You can see the tab on the ring in this video -- of course, the whole ring is upside down!

My Oldman had one exactly the same colour, one of the best cars ever engineered by Mercedes.

Wow! I couldn't seem to help but say wow and whoa over and over as I watched your video of this beautiful 59' 220S. This was my first car, one that my Dad bought for me when I was 15 years old, back in 1968. My dream all these years since losing that car is to find another and restore it immaculately. It looks like you've got your dream going on nicely. Too cool. Thanks.

When used as the turn signal switch, the whole horn ring ROTATED slightly, clicking left a few degrees, or right.

In the process to buy one, on a scale of 0-10, how classic would you consider this car? Thanks!
