    I fell in love with Cardiacs around 2012. My former band and I were hunting down the city looking for a bass player, and this guy came up. He was a very good one but didn't have the time and energy to put his efforts into Promenade at that time. However, he left us such a precious gift, which is, of course, Tim Smith's wonderful world. I never really stopped listening to Cardiacs, but recently I've been digging deep on the internet, enjoying Mr and Mrs Smith and Mr. Drake, Spratleys Japs, Extra Special OceanLandWorld, the live concerts, and the radio sessions. I gotta say: I love acknowledging how deep the rabbit hole is. And I still burst into tears whenever I listen to "Dirty Boy", in awe. Tim certainly didn't have the glory his genius deserved recognized by mainstream society, but I feel like he gave so much material to the world of music, and it's great that it is available right now through the ABC and TH-cam. I'm with you with everything you say, my man. I loved this video, the pureness of your emotions and honesty. You can bet you have the love and respect of everybody who stayed with you through this 26-minute-long video.

    You got me… Especially with the emotions and the final video bits. I miss the possibility that they might have done more music. But their work is so good and is still with us.

    Tim and Sarah were our neighbours in the 1980's and Tim played on one of our albums and with us live. A gentleman. It was a pleasure.

    It's always hard. I'm still in mourning for Steve Albini, David Bowie, and others. I only found out about Tim dying a few weeks ago.
    I'm 59, and it seems more and more of my heroes are dying.

    Cardiacs changed my life. Unfortunately I was way too late to the party/pond (discovered them around 2008) and also American. But I was in Birmingham in fall '93 studying and the lads played London that November. If I had only known......But I still feel so fortunate to have discovered this music and I did meet and hang with Kavus in London in 2015. An amazing evening!
    BTW, its great seeing metal fans and Cardiacs fans fusing together. Tim was such a wizard with sound, melody, harmony, and rhythm, and all the rest of it. Cheers and endless love to Tim and the gang. RIP to Tim Quy as well.
    PS..agreed that StG is my fav album ever as well! A Little Man is a masterpiece indeed and I feel that Songs for Ships/Irons is very close as well and is as much a complete album as anything Tim made. Heaven Born is beyond amazing too! Bodysbad is the greatest tune ever. The Day is Gone ep is also a gem.

    I found your video by total accident but was deeply touched. I knew tim and charlie back in the late 80s early nineties in deptford. I was writing plays and they were pushing out little man. I can tell you from having known him - albeit it for only a few years - he'd be smiling at your wonderful disjointed and eloquent eulogy. And btw legacies are what you leave behind, not what you take with you, keep listening and podding, passion is everything

    I like the way Cardiacs makes you work. You have to suffer a little bit for the payoff. So annoying but ultimately tremendously rewarding.

    Lots of love bro. Timmy was a very special man. I had the same dumbstruck feeling when I read the news on my lunch break at work. The rest of the shift I was all quiet and weepy. Let him live through his music!

    Your grief is shared with all the fans in the UK who have grown up with this band and care as deeply as you do. I have been a Cardiacs fan since 1995 when I started to go and see them live in the UK and I was pretty late to get on that train. I have met people over the years who are connected to the Cardiacs family and saw them in the 80s. No time like the present to celebrate the genius of Tim Smith, it is not going to stop now. Thank you for your words.

    For anyone who is deeply, intensely and relentlessly touched by music, the passing of a musical genius is always outrageously hurtful. The pop fans won't even notice.

    Have you seen the live videos where you can see the two female backing vocalists holding that sustained note at the end of Dirty Boy? They kind of take turns, but overlap so you get that sustained unbroken note for minutes on end! Amazing.

      @theloserof08  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have actually! There's one on TH-cam, live at Astoria I believe in 2002, where they perform Dirty Boy like that. It's amazing.

    I remember being in highschool, hiding in the bathroom to skip classes and I decided to listen to that album with a strange cover. It was... something else. I have been absolutely hooked ever since, to the point where I can literally can't choose any favorite album or song (including Sea Nymphs et al). Their fucking zany and crazy music just shaped my mood to fit the songs. Just like you said, it filled me with hope and happiness.
    I have never been able to recommend this band to anyone, in a strange way it was my very personal and close secret that I just was forbidden from sharing with anyone (parasocial relationships, i know).
    Had a good cry along with you. I absolutely feel you when you say that you didn't get the fairytale ending that should have been.
    Thank you so much for this video and pardon my rambling. It made me achieve some sort of catharsis.
