    I'm currently disabled after having 4 back surgeries in the last 3 years and I like being able to stay in my recliner and use my Bluetooth keyboard and mouse pad combination. If I could ever get one of these to test out I would actually be able to use it! So I'm glad you're not going with an all-in-one unit because even though most wouldn't find it heavy, it definitely would be for me in my lap. Plus having any cables stretching across the living room could be dangerous for me so this is just awesome! Let me know if you need any nostalgic gamers to sit with it and tested for multiple hours LOL. I still have 7 months to go to heal from the 12 screws in my back so I would definitely go out to that program if it existed! By the way, I love did logo with multiple steps stages! Gives it a nice 3d effect from what I can tell!

    Really looking forward to see the final results of this project! I unfortunately missed the days the C64 was the latest and hottest thing since I was born just a little bit too late in 89, so I had to discover its legacy as an adult instead. I really love that machine. The Commander X16 seems to be everything the C64 was and greater, so I can't wait to be able to buy one myself! This time I'm not missing out and who knows, I might even learn to program my own games for it which would be a dream come true for me. Good luck to all of you involved in this project with the finishing touches and getting it ready for release :)

    • @rastislavzima
      @rastislavzima 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was probably most popular 8-bit machine although it had one of the worst color palette amongst all 8-bits. I haven't understood why so dull washed out colors were used. Games would look much better with brighter pallette.

    • @another3997
      @another3997 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rastislavzima It was certainly popular, but there were many international markets where it didn't dominate. Obviously the USA was the prime C64 market (although strangely, the CBM Amiga didn't do so well in the US), but in many places it was much lower in the sales rankings. I only knew one person with a C64, but numerous Sinclair, TI99/4A, Acorn/BBC, Atari, Dragon, TRS-80 and even Oric owners.

      But there is something I miss on your case, I wish there were a 5 1/4“ floppy. Or at least a floppy. I know nearly none use Floppy this day’s.
      The idea was something like a fake floppy, it would be just like a SDCard reader but it would look like a floppy in the Floppy drive. I have seen once a adapter where you put your SD Card into a floppy.
      I don’t know if this wouldn’t be too expensive, so I had a idea with a fake. At the front there would be a 3D printed floppy drive which has a Floppy in it. Imagine the last 0,5% of the floppy can be seen, the floppy would have one or two gaps for a micro SD and one for a Sd D card. It’s just a idea, but maybe it would help you to get a idea which is much more awesome, maybe you realize a real external drive. (You could call it Ben‘s drive) 😂
      Sadly I live here in Switzerland, because I would love to be a part of this project.

    I think not going with all in one is the better choice in the end. Can plug your favourite keyboard you enjoy. And integrated one would increase costs and such, so have to probably settle with not so good keyboard. Although that would arguably be more in spirit with some retro computers :D

    Even though it's only a prototype, that front bezel is beautiful and I'm super impressed what can be done with 3D printing and a little design knowledge. Man do I miss the fake vent aesthetic. Data exchange could be an issue but I think it should work via ascii csv -> serial interface -> arduino -> soap xml -> ethernet -> webservice/appserver.

      Even though it has been 30 years since I had a house full of Commodore stuff, I still get the groans and the LOOK if I mention the word Commodore it in front of my wife lol

    Man, the Commander X16 reminds me of 16-bit consoles more than the Commodore 64. The CPU is similar to the PC-Engine, the graphics capability looks very similar to the SNES and the audio hardware reminds me of the Sega Mega Drive and the Arcades of the time.

    Looks like a lot of fun... PCB = "Probably Can Buy" one of these when it comes out... I kind of miss the good old days of the 8-bit 6502 - In 1982 I wrote the VIC-20 game "MUNCHER" Sold/distributed by the Wizard's Magic Toy Box... I still have my old commodore equipment that I want to get working again. My Last Commodore Purchase was an Amiga 1000. I loved the 68K processor, so much better than 6502 especially when it came to working in assembly. I know it's not 8-bit, but it's a bit more fun... actually it's several bits more fun😁

    And hello to you too ;).
    Love old computers. It was a lot more fun with computers from the 80s.
