Looking at the score, one thing I can definitely appreciate is how simple and straightforward everything is. There's no insanely complicated rhythms, constant time signature changes, or new types of notation that you have to spend days getting used to. And yet, it still sounds very modern.
I, too, enjoyed this straightforward and simplistic approach to contemporary and approachable composition. I was able to pick this up and then play by ear in a matter of mere centuries practice time.
Nowhere could I find it mentioned that the score is built on a hymn-tune....Angels We Have Heard on High..presented right at the beginning....superb piece, great performance...
oh :( i haven’t heard of her before hearing this work this work is wonderful should check more of her work yes, am not sure if this is the same person. but it could be. if you figure it out, please, let me know. thanks. in any case … RIP to a wonderful composer
@@freewheeler8924obviously she composed this kind of music because its what she loved, no reason to insult a composer who just died just because you dont like their music. atleast she wasnt just doing it for the money
like being exposed for 13 straight minutes to the doppler effect..is the airplane (or angel in this case) coming or going?...and that etch-a-sketch looking angel..that's taking formalism a bit far. I do like the organ, but I find her glissandi fetish a bit too habitual. For my taste, it'd be nice to run up against something occasionally solid; less perpetually drippy and slidey.
As much as I'd love to hear this, 40 seconds of obnoxious commercials is just too high a price to pay. Forget it. There's plenty of good music still to hear elsewhere!

It has its layers of complexity.
I was lucky enough to be there and this was my introduction to Gloria Coates. Major life event, I truly mean that, she is *it* for me still.

yes! and at 4:19 in the organ (though hidden behind the glisses) is 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen'
I love how ominous this is, really gives me the feel of an angel invasion comming
Hopefully the angels will take you away.
somehow I never knew you could make strings sound like this. that sketch at the beginning is also hauntingly beautiful
Just listened to the piece through and then went back to look at the sketch of the piece shown at the beginning and realized it makes an angel!
Just looked her up and saw that she passed yesterday (assume that is why it is recommended). RIP Gloria.

May she always be remembered for the meaningless tripe she produced.

Stumbled upon this by accident and I'm so grateful I did! Holy cow this is incredible
It's so nice to see other contemporary composers writing for the organ in non-traditional ways :) glad i'm not the only one
Mesmerizing piece...
So good...

Gostei.
That's very intriguing. Fascinating.
Buenísimo!
While it's not the kind of music I usually listen to, this is actually good. There are clear melodies and the musical idea is there. This is good.
Brava! 🪽
Fantastic!!!
Always liked Coates, never knew she was spiritually conscious!
Very spiritful vibrations. Inspired. Can visualize the gathering energies watching, moaning, commenting, helping, coaxing, from the other side.
woww this is really amazing
I would LOVE to perform this piece, where can I get the music?
send us an email at spektralquartet at gmail 😀
this is what plays in my head when the teacher starts assigning homework on friday
Please, release this
I could not memorise this at sight.
Wow ❤
It’s string quartet No 7 “Angels” for string quartet and organ by Gloria Coates
what a freakin piece!
Xenakis style
@me wheb 99kN I think it actually is quite close to Xenakis
' style - even if it may come from a different place.
@me wheb 99kN the glissandos, the handling of the dynamics...

@me wheb 99kN but what did you mean by this comment: "omg you commented something else"?
@me wheb 99kN ah okay I misunderstood. I thought you meant the comment didn't fit the music.
This is what you hear when you uncover an obelisk
I agree. this is the music heard in the outer lands
sodelicious...........
Is there a CD of this? I would like to buy a copy but can't find any trace of it.
This would be a great soundtrack for a horror film
new kraftwerk album of early era sounds great
Biblically accurate music
couldn't pass by the thumbnail
clicked on it for the thumbnail too

How can they make sense of those chicken scratches.
The longer you study it the more it makes sense! Also we had the good fortune to work with the composer.
nice clickbait thumbnail
Sounds like a good sound track to a horror film. And I don’t like horror films either.
