    Looks to be in amazing condition. Previous owner obviously took great care of it and the accessories. I am lucky enough to have a Rollecord IV and Vb. Love using both. Usually gets attention when I'm out and about and frequently a conversation starter. Can be used like a periscope in crowds too. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours.

      Hi Martin, thank you! Yes I paid a little bit extra for the Rolleicord III camera bundle but I was pleased it was cosmetically in good condition. Yes i'm relaly enjoying the TLR view of the world and can't wait to get out and about after lockdown to use on model shoots abroad and in the street. My camera actually has a film transport issue (it seems where the camera doesn't recognise that film is loaded so doesn't stop at number 1. The frame count works so I can still use it but get some overlap. I didn't mention it in the video as I can get it repaired. Thanks Matt ..it did make me appreciate TLR cameras so much that I bought another TLR camera. Video to follow! :)

    thank you for this great video. very helpful. important the comparision of the Rolleicord screen and the Hasselblad screen. the focus of the darker Rolleicord screen snaps and the bright acute matte does not snap. i made the same experience with the old Hasselblad screen and the aucute matte.
    i bought a Rolleicord IV (very useful the double exposure lock).
    i also have an Rolleiflex 2.8F with Planar. The Rolleicord is more fun because it weighs much less (700g vs 1200g) and has an easy handling. i don’t miss anything. the focus knob on the Rolleicord IV is on the right side which is much more ergonomic (Rolleiflex 2.8F has it on the left side). The Xenar (Tessar) perfekt. in a final print i cannot see if it was taken with a Planar or a Tessar. The pictures of Vivian Maier are amazing. Most of her Rolleiflexes „only“ had a Tessar.

    You can't use a prism on a Rolleicord 111.
    The only one with a removable waist level finder is the Rolleicord Vb
    I use a Rolleinar 1 on my 1957 Yashica Mat with a 75mm 3.5 Lumaxar lens.
    The thicker lens goes on the top viewing lens with the red spot at the top to give parallax correction. The other lens can go any way up.

    Looks like you got yourself a pristine example of this excellent camera. My Rolleicord is in good condition but it did not have any accessories with it apart from the leather case which was in very bad condition. Not that it matters a lot since it was priced accordingly, but the older a camera is, the more I like to have the accessories that came with it. I have a Rolleiflex 2.8E as well but it is larger and heavier, plus on mine, the shutter speed indicator has changed colour and is very hard to see even in bright daylight. So, most of the time, I like the Rolleicord more. :)

    The sunshade with the insert can only be used when using the 35mm Rolleikin. The shade can't be used when using 120 rollfilm as it will give a vignette for the angle of view us (much) wider. BTW, my first Rolleicord was a lllA, and I inherited a Rolleicord Vb. You make very sympathetic vlogs, thanks!

    Correction to the video* - Maximum shutter speed on a Rolleicord III camera is 1/500* (not 1/250). You just need to push the shutter lever further (and firmer) to display the 1/500 speed. (Thank you to the viewers that pointed this out to me!).

    Good review. I’ve had the Rolleicord III for a few years now. Takes great pictures especially with Portra 400 @ 200 iso. The shutter does go up to 1/500th of a second. Just push the shutter level a bit more. It has more resistance to get there but it will. Jealous of the close up adapter, must pick some up for myself.

      Thank you Mark! Yes someone else told me about the 1/500 and I checked and I have it so thank you to you guys for pointing that out. Yes you really must get the Rolleinar adapters especially the #1 as less magnified so can use for portraits etc, not that i've had chance to meet with any models yet during lockdown ha, but yes nearly all the photos taken so far with my TLR cameras are with Rolleinar lenses. (I say camera(s) as I bought a second TLR a few weeks later!) :) Rolleinar lenses work on both cameras so are very useful. Camera 2 to follow! :)

      Thanks, I’m not sure in this. The strap came with the camera. For my Hasselblad 500 I had to buy a strap and I bought an original Hassy strap to ensure it fitted the lugs. Sorry off topic but normally I use 3rd party straps on most cameras (see straps video) but I couldn’t with the Hasselblad.. and the Rollei has one already.

    Hello!
    Maybe coming a bit late, but careful with the lens hood: the "Rolleikin" is just the sub-format mask installed on it. If you shoot medium format, this mask should be removed and tidied back in the Rolleikin box, or it will ruin your shots.
    Actually, later Rolleikin kits completely omited that hood mask as it was not very useful and conductive to mistakes.
    Very nice set though! :)
    Happy shooting!

    I bought my third Rolleicord yesterday, and I believe it's identical to yours. I have heard that it should say DBP on postwar cameras, but mine, and yours, say DRP (Deutsches Reichs Patent, instead of Bundes), and I wonder why. However, you should check if the shutter speed regulator is just a bit stiff, it should be a 1/500 second maximum shutter speed. This was the case with mine. It seems to be in good working order, 1/10 second and slower doesn't work, but I probably wont use that anyway.

    thanks for uploading this.
    I have a Seagull that is functional, and a broken TLR that is likely a Yashica (Maybe "B" It has viewing lens of F2.8) given to me from a brother who was stationed in US military in Germany. I may try to get it fixed. I'm thinking medium format is more forgiving for the lenses because the negative is so big. If a TLR lens could be made with current 35mm lens technology It might be a stellar performer if designed appropriately to the larger film.
    I am inspired to spend time with the Seagull.
    BTW, I was thinking you look a bit like a young Paul McCartney, but now am leaning much more toward Edward Norton. One of my favorite all time films is with his presence in "The Illusionist". I loved the gentle nature of his role, and his smarts. Fantastic film!

    Personally I’ve been disappointed with the dimness and lack of clarity on my Rolleicord Va. Otherwise it’s virtually in mint condition and works beautifully but compared to even the basic and cheap Lubitel 166B TLR I purchased in the 1990s brand new for £14.95, the Rolleicord has an even dimmer screen. It does focus better than the Lubitel but there isn’t a lot of light to work with

  • @MaartenWisse
    @MaartenWisse 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm sure your focusing screen has been replaced by the previous owner, because Rolleicords are actually notorious for their original focusing acreens. They are rather dark. I replaced mine with a screen from eBay that has a fresnel. That made it a lot better. Indeed, as others say, many Rolleicord III cameras have a 1/500 speed but only those with a Compur Rapid shutter. That 'rapid' refers to the high speed which indeed is reached by putting some pressure on the speed setting knob. Enjoy your Rolleicord!

    • @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom
      @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Maarten, my screen looks like glass. I've had the top off to clean it and it has been opened before but no previous damage so good. Yes I hear you can get fresnel screens. I'm only really using the centre of my screen to focus (with magnifier). Another viewer commented about the 1/500, I checked the camera and mine does go to 1/500 I just needed to push the lever harder which makes sense. Good feature to have. This video was recorded maybe 3 weeks ago so after some time with the camera I loved the TLR experience but some features less so. As such I just bought another TLR. I will compare the 2 in a future video, pros and cons of each. Thanks Matt

This time I didn't want to get involved with the Flexes, they are kind of out of sight cost wise, but your great comparison of the Fujis, particularly the GS 645 caught my eye. I know by experience that the Rollei's are more painterly in rendering, where in my experience Fuji is always quite sharp but clinical in comparison in my view. @@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom You are excused this time.. Other possible linguistic sins will however be noted ; those like Forums, Stadiums, and similar Latin-English mangles. And I've ordered a Rolleicord Vb, paying about twice more "pre-loved" than I paid for new 35 years back in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear, run by a great dealer called Tommy Head..
