Is It Worth Upgrading to 8s Power?

  • We took the ‪@fmsmodelRC‬ 8s 1500kv motor and 120 amp ESC combo and tossed them into the E-flite Viper 90mm RC plane. It's debatable as to whether this is truly an upgrade overall, as some aspects of the jet do suffer while others improve. You get more low-end thrust at the cost of higher end speed. This could also be a case of wind interference, but the model's tendency to stall easier is definitely a consequence of adding more weight to the wings. It can be a super upgrade for those of you who want the most power under any circumstance.

    Welp, now I need to get one of these ARF+ next time they're back in stock. You are 100% spot on with your 8S assessment as well. Little more weight and some more cost but a LOT more punch or you can baby it for more flight time and the SMC LiHv packs are a game changer for this. Not sure I'd fly on the 3600s but the 4400s seem like the sweet spot. The 5300s are not too much heavier but there does need to be a cutoff.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      4400s are definitely the sweet spot, but the 3600s also perform admirably if you don't abuse them! We'd recommend placing a backorder for the ARF so you can save your place in line - they'll sell out quick like anything related to this jet does: bit.ly/3ZF69UG

    Due to the increased weight, the viper will be at a higher angle of attack (AOA) at any given speed, which could result in approaching the critical AOA at a higher speed than it would have before. I have the FMS Viper with 6S configuration, and it is relatively weak. I am considering upgrading to an 8S setup.

    Just messing with you brother, I knew that you'd come over to the dark side eventually, and 12s is only really intended for the bigger edf jets, the plus 100mm size.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Jokes aside, the FW Eurofighter is heavy enough on 6s. On 8 we can't imagine it flying any better, it'll just stall easier under the kind of maneuvers we like to perform. We tried out 8s to see how it would work on a jet that the 1500kv would drop into - and this was the best choice of the ones we had available. And surprisingly it did well enough that we'll probably keep this Viper at 8s for a while, though we can always change it back by just putting the heavier 6s motor into it that we used before.

    • @steelrainfpv3383
      @steelrainfpv3383 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Two Brothers Radio Control yeah it appears that the new Eurofighter has little room to adjust the cg backwards, especially for an 8s setup, and it looks like I'll be relegated to using two of the smaller and lighter 4s SMC LHV 3600mah batteries to keep the weight manageable. I do believe that I'll eventually have to swap it over to the 6s power train setup for my high alpha and acrobatic flying style, maybe in the future they'll release a thrust vectoring option to help this model with maneuverability.
