Asafoetida 1 pinch
Water 1 c
Oil 21/2 tbsp
Mustard 1/2
Black gram dal 1/2tsp
Onion 1 big
Green Chilli 4
Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
Ginger sliced 1 tsp
Garlic 1
Curry leaves Few
Coriander leaves as required
Asafoetida 1 pinch
Salt To Taste

My paternal and maternal grandmothers both used to make this and I used to love it.The addition of garlic is something they never did and would probably consider it a sacrilege to the recipe but I believe it's a fantastic tweak since I have always opined that garlic adds a distinct flavour. Also the purists of that generation would never contemplate the addition of cilantro,but I agree when you call it a flavour bomb.I nowadays use it a lot in most of my cooking. It truly heightens the effect on the taste buds-something I discovered in the Orient.
