I gave Game of Thrones a try twice and I got to page 59 on the second try. It's just really not my thing and I have accepted that. I tried the books after I didn't like the pilot of the show, so technically, I gave the story three shots. The writing isn't bad though, it's just not for me. It's a shame, I understand the world building in GOT is really good and I love well build worlds. Tomorrow when the war began is just, meh. I couldn't focus on it. I don't even remember what the writing was like. A friend gave it to me for my 19th birthday, I tried to read it twice but I keep putting it down. Now I'm just ready to give up on it.
This is a great unhauling! We have a bookstore that gives credit, too, but it’s an hour away so our trips aren’t as often as I’d like. I think Great Gatsby is a good classic to read! It has a gossipy vibe, which I enjoyed 😂 I also liked Game of Thrones, but I agree, it was hard to get into. I read along with an audiobook to really grasp the characters and storyline.
Thank you! I unhauled about a third of my English books in this video but I didn't include the books that are on my shelves that I knew I would keep. I really love my local bookstore, I also get a student discount and it's just down town. I feel like I'm cheating there a little though, because I live in a major Dutch city and everything is close to me. GOT is just a book that has to be in your comfort zone. I don't like graphic sex scenes in books to begin with and if it's also violent, like rape, I don't like to read it. As I see it there's enough other good books out there that I'll likely enjoy more. It's okay to not like a popular book for unpopular reasons. My friends actually make fun of me for being a 'wuss' by DNFing (did not finish) this series. I'm too prude for a Dutch guy apparently, according to them, and I need to man up. But I personally think I'm manning up enough lately. :)
I've heard that the star trek enterprise books/episodes often have really good "morals" - e.g. how to become a better leader/person. Is that your experience?
I never thought of it like that, but that is sort of true. Star Trek Enterprise is very focused on character growth, both in the show and in the books. And Star Trek really took morals to the next level in general, that goes for all material.
Every show has its own things to focus on. I really enjoyed Enterprise's first season because it had this 'optimistic naive humans explore a world they don't understand and this can go wrong' vibe. I also really liked Voyager, which was littered with moral dilemmas of having to weight getting home with the interests of others (can I harm others to lessen my own suffering, basically). The next generation is more philosophical and slower, which is why I haven't seen all of it yet. The original series is fun, oldfashioned story telling with horrible special effects and overacting. I mostly read books from the Enterprise characters (Archer, T'Pol, Tucker, Reed, Hoshi) and the books have the same quality to it. Which one did you first try? Maybe you just need to try another series that's more your thing.
When the maybe pile becomes the stay pile. I know that feeling well!
Hahaha, yeah, that happens, doesn't it? In my defense: there was only one book in the maybe pile! XD
I agree with Tomorrow When the War Began but I love Game of Thrones!

@@christopherdrost3764 I tried to get into it but the first season is all "alien pretends to be human" plots. I assume it gets much better?
