Joel leaving still hits me right in the feelz every time to this day, just like when I was a young kid watching this with my mom. Mike has his own place in my heart but Joel has a playful warmth about him that just made even the darkest day brighter, even when I just wanted to see the world burn he could send me cracking up and smiling. Thanks for the years of laughs mst3k.
@@wizardz7938 it's been two years since you asked this apparently, but in case you never learned, the show's producer, Jim Mallon, and Joel were having increasing tensions regarding the direction to take the show, and rather than let it destroy the show entirely Joel decided to leave

Me & my brother were huge fans and watched this episode with bated breath having read that Joel was leaving, though nobody had any idea how it would happen (no high-speed internet back then). Don't even want to remember how long ago it first aired...
I feel bad for whoever sent that letter. That person was one of the hundreds who gets the lucky chance to get his or her letter read but doesn’t get read.
"I can`t come back! I don`t know how it works!!" I think about this scene a lot even years & years later. Did you know Joel is on a show called Other Space? It`s pretty good actually. Joel not really stretching his acting chops much....Lol. Trace is the voice of the robot. No surprises there!! www.imdb.com/title/tt4561950/
I was scared when Joel left, but it all worked out ! Hey, when is anyone going to write a book behind the scenes of what it took to get MST3K onto the big screen? That would be interesting.
The actual quote is: The whole world is a circus if you know how to look at it. The way the sun goes down when you're tired, comes up when you want to be on the move. That's real magic. The way a leaf grows. The song of the birds. The way the desert looks at night, with the moon embracing it. Oh, my boy, that's... that's circus enough for anyone. Every time you watch a rainbow and feel wonder in your heart. Every time you pick up a handful of dust, and see not the dust, but a mystery, a marvel, there in your hand. Every time you stop and think, "I'm alive, and being alive is fantastic!" Every time such a thing happens, you're part of the Circus of Dr. Lao.
+wattamack4 the episode I watched did not have the flow and informal interaction that the Joel series portrayed. perhaps it was not ready for prime time, but the dead air and forced dialogue was a quick buzzkill.
+G Wernette I have to agree. I was turned off by how much the laugh factor seemed to fall off during the first Mike season, and at that point, you're watching people try to make you laugh while watching bad movies, and that's not going to win people over. Joel had a few blase episodes too, but they seemed fewer and farther between. I wasn't very fair to Mike as a viewer. I saw Joel first, and I thought he was a lot funnier, so the host change killed it for me. Some of the Mike episodes I've seen since the 90s have changed my opinion of his tenure for the better, but I definitely remember souring on the show after Joel left.
I love how that is Joel's favorite film...but he mispronounces the title characters name', LOL... It's 'Low', not 'Loo'... And it's George Pal...not 'Pals'. Great exit sequence tho... Hi, Mike!
I love how Trace shakes the Crow puppet so hard that both the net falls off and the eyes fall out. Crow's so distraught, he's literally falling apart!
and Tom Servo's dome!
Absolutely Laughed Out Loud when the Crow's eyes fall out, and Tom's dome falls off. FANTASTIC!
From what I gather, the robots falling apart was unintentional. They just threw it in!
was trace operating crow during the skits?
@@tomitstube Yes Trace was still puppeteered Crow till season 7. Then in Season 8 was when Bill took over.
It’s fitting that Joel would leave with a Wizard of Oz quote. He really was a wizard that created a truly unique concept.
And he left the others behind on a one-way trip.
I got misty eyes when Joel told the bots he loved them ; (
Me too
"Be Strong and True"
Those were Joels words, not from a script.
I love how the static is quite clearly just confetti. 🤣

Catherine Chase reminds me of mr rogers
Very similar to Steve in blues clues
why did he leave/
Joel is everyone's best college buddy who doesn't judge and just wants everyone to have a good time.

The dreaded snow static
noah2x4 IT was pretty clever, using it to look like bad analog TV reception.
Leave it to MST3K to make a sad moment too damn funny to cry at. XD
It's like when Steve left Blues Clues ;_;
But this is worse
It's when he went to college
What about when David the Gnome died. I know he wasn't replaced but...Jesus.
@@housemusiccatalog2279 dang, I only watched that show for a brief time as a kid but fell in love with it. Never knew he died :(

I just love how Joel just tries to continue with the Letters at the beginning, even doing the still store thing, I wonder who made that nice drawing?
Servo literally lost his head.
And Crow literally lost his eyes and net.
Neither was planned, by the way. They just decided to go with that take.
0:43 HEY LOOK, THERE’S A PRIZE INSIDE THAT BOX OF HAMDINGERS! AN ESCAPE POD *zip* lol

This still tugs at my heartstrings.

I'm just glad to know Joel made it to earth safely
Listen Mike is amazing! But Joel was the love of my life... =(
I'm not crying, you're crying.
I was scared when Joel left, but it all worked out !

Glyn There’s a two hour featurett on the movie Blu-Ray that pretty much covers it.
Yeah, Mike was a worthy successor.
Next, they should upload when Mike "left" the SoL in Final Justice.

I'm making that "Dr. Lou" speech my yearbook quote.
Lol @the Wizard of Oz reference "...sorry folks I can't come back I dunno how it works..."
Sure, this scene is funny now, but the poor bots were left with abandonment issues.
I agree with Tom. PANIC!!!!!!
This was the day that men cried.
Funny enough, the Dr. Lao quote was surprisingly poignant for ending his time at MST3K.
The actual title was The 7 Faces Of Dr. Lao.
We had to ask what a hamdinger was.
Tom's: "im in charge" and the bots' ensuing panic got me laughing after Joel's last message to them made me legit all kinds of sad lol
hiliarous, classic episode
2:33 all: goodbye.
..and now Joel goes on TH-cam and taking up a new gig as the Antenna Man.
Though you are small and white, your wheels are silver...
3:07 crow Brokes his eyes and hair
Net, actually.
You mean net?
Joel had a better theme song
Was that supposed to be static?... XD
Josh Russell This show only uses practical effects with little-to-no editing in post. It has a charm to it.
The little styrofoam balls were static, yes.
Goodbye joel….
Joel was the best😏😏
2:54 all: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh!!!
2:03 crow: ahhhhhhhhhhhhh
Until they send a new guy they will all just be in panic mode
2:33 goodbye!
Usher is about to say hello to Tom Servo and crow season 14
When Joel left the best part of the show went with him.
But Joel comes back and hangs out with Mike though.
Joels back!
Mike enters. He will lift the show to new heights.
Perfect panic moment

The vacuum bot is funny
Now usher will host season 14
But what are Hamdingers?!?!
Uhhhh.....www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Hamdingers&=true
...bye joel ;(
Michelle Charis winky frown?
Is it just me or was this part kinda sad
😭😭😭
I liked Mike, but it was not the same without Joel.
Both hosts were great. I prefer Mike but I'm not a Jonah fan.
Which episode was it?
Mitchell

Now it’s usher to be with the robots season 14
❤
🤣
C'est la vie

It's a controversial opinion but it's my opinion: Joel>Jonah>Mike.
Don't think that means I dislike Mike, I just like Joel and Jonah more.
Mike, Jonah, Joel
Jonah is a d bag

I only had to watch one episode of 'Mike' to put me off of MST3K.

I feel that Mike really prospered once Bill Corbett came on for the last 2 seasons...which is why those guys are still working together now
