you should check out the woodworker dead blow from impactpolyhammers. Might replace your rubber mallet. Their standard dead blows are also second to none.

Any hammer can do any job but special hammers for specific jobs is nice. Hammers you didn't show but I tend to use a lot are brass hammers and plastic mallets.

I’d be hard-pressed to do a sledgehammer job with a rubber mallet. I agree about the brass and plastic ones you talk about, just a bit more specialized than what I get into a lot

@@TorqueAndTwisted it was my mistake to not qualify what I meant by "any" hammer. I should have more accurately said a basic carpenter's hammer. Which is the hammer that comes to my mind when I think of, "any hammer". And no a sledgehammer job wouldn't be easy to do with a carpenter's hammer but then again sledgehammer jobs are never particularly easy to do. I've had a bad habit of breaking sledgehammers in my life. You know it's bad when the hammer breaks.

@@1pcfred I can't recall breaking a sledge, but I did recently have an axe head come flying off mid swing...instant dilemma becomes: do you look up to spot the projectile and get to safety? Or close your eyes and duck for cover? By the time I decided the axe head already landing a bit away from me.

@@TorqueAndTwisted whenever I've ever broken a sledgehammer it was when I hit something with it so the handle just breaks. Usually the handle shears off right where it goes into the head. So the head doesn't really go flying that I've ever noticed. Maybe a little? But the energy gets dissipated in the hit and breaking the handle. A lot of times it's because the handles are old. Wood don't last forever.

@@1pcfred that last line sounds like a pitch I make to my wife daily.
