    Hi. Thank you for the tutorial.
    I’ve been trying to use the drum loops in Expander with no luck, I can select the loop (Busy Shakers) for example, but nothing seems to transfer onto the track.
    Many thanks for any info

    Hi Shane
    Awesome video. I'm not new to Pro Tools, but I am new to beat making on Pro Tools. I was wondering for Hip Hop beats what would be a good tempo? And, how would I loop the beat when it's done?
    Thank you
    ReviTalize

    • @ShaneVanLitz
      @ShaneVanLitz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, glad you liked. I'm not 100% sure about tempo, you could start around 100-120 and see how that gets you.
      As for looping, you can loop playback by selecting it on/near the play button. (but I assume that's not what you are talking about, just thought I'd cover that as well)
      To loop what you have, the easiest thing to do would be to click your clip and hit cmd D or Ctrl D (from memory) to duplicate (asuming that your beat fills the correct amount of bars). You can also use alt click to slide a copy of the clip away.
      Hope that helps!

      @ShaneVanLitz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Shane van Litsenborgh
      Actually could be alt D... can't remember right now haha, anyway, it's the duplicate command.

    Do you know how to separate the Toms and Cymbals in expand? I'd like to separate every individual thing and bounce them to audio tracks, but the toms and cymbals are on the same "section", so to speak.

    • @ShaneVanLitz
      @ShaneVanLitz  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean to record each part of the synth drum kit individually? If so, I don't think you can (for the combined parts).
      I think a work around would be to create two instrument tracks. On the one do the toms part and the other do the cymbals, even though expand will show toms and cymbals on both.
      I hope that's what you mean? I know it's not ideal, but it'll do the job. Otherwise, you could try manually loading drum bits into expand instead of loading a pre-built kit, but I'm not sure if you'll find what you seem to be after. (I think you can find those in the big drop down menus somewhere in expand, I don't have it in front of me right now.)
      Hope that helps!

    • @jorgevalentine
      @jorgevalentine 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Shane van Litsenborgh Thanks for the quick reply! That's actually what I've been doing lol. Duplicating my original midi twice and then I'll delete the cymbals on one and toms on the other. I was hoping there would be an easier way, but I guess there's not. Thanks again for the help! Have a great night :)

      Jorge Valentine No worries. There might be another way, but it's not something I typically do. Hope you come right.

      Well, what exactly would you like to see?

    • @gabet5247
      @gabet5247 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      How about recording a basic 4 by 4 beat with MIDI drums out of time, then a global quantize to put it back in time.
      So more like recording/editing specifically for drums!

    I'm searching in forums for drum settings that sound like other bands, etc. Surprisingly hard to find!! Can you point me in the right direction?

    • @ShaneVanLitz
      @ShaneVanLitz  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      StephenRahrig Sorry to say, not so much. The drums are one of the tricker instruments to get right. All I can suggest is to tinker untill you are happy, or perhaps try a different plugin.

    • @StephenRahrig
      @StephenRahrig 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that is really surprising to me. I'm new to PT and I just assumed there would be all kinds of available presets (like with guitars, you can scroll through a list of bands with some plugins lol). There are just far too many options and i don't want to waste my time. Thanks anyways!

    • @ShaneVanLitz
      @ShaneVanLitz  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      StephenRahrig Yup, there are drum presets, and it's quite customisable, but they aren't in the same drop down as the other instruments.
      The best way to do it, imo, is to select a preset which will load in an entire drum kit, of which there are several to choose from including rock, pop, techno etc. (from memory the presets are in a drop down menu near the top of the expand window).
      This should fill all the instrument options in the expand window. But it's hard to say without knowing how you are going about it.
      Hope that helps.

      Unfortunately, I didn't. I ended up using Superior Drummer instead. Although, I did read somewhere that uninstalling and reinstalling Xpand fixed the issue for a lot of people. I didn't try this method out myself, but I hope it works for you, if you try. @@anyaninc

    show how to record using expand

    • @ShaneVanLitz
      @ShaneVanLitz  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, recording is pretty simple, although you would probably need a midi keyboard or similar. Once you have that configured, you would hit the record button on the track you wish to enable recording and then the main record button.

      You need to select the metronome icon under the transport. If it is blue then it is selected, if not then you need to click on it to turn it on.
