For real, Propose is just the BEST b-side of all Dreamcatcher in my opinion. The Chorus just hit so hard!!
I think it might be overtaking BONVOYAGE for listens in my Spotify. The whole groove of the song is so satisfying that I can listen on loop and never get bored!!

It's up with "Whistle" and "Trap" as my top three Dreamcatcher songs.

It's easily in the top tier of all their B-sides for me, period. Freakin masterpiece.
Easily top tier for sure, but I personally think that no one beats Black or White if we're talking about b-sides. But this is for sure the best mini album we had in the past few comebacks

They take love and lay it out bare and real, instead of being cute and a fantasy, it's just how it is/feels in real life!
This album feels like the history of Dreamcatcher, a best of album with all new songs.
Intro: From Us blends the piano intro from "Dreamcatcher - Mayday" with a sick guitar solo, played with the notes from "Minx - Shut Up". I think the intention is to clue you in that the album starts from when Minx was failing and needed to be rescued.
I love BONVOYAGE. Lyrically it's the story of Dreamcatcher's own personal apocalypse, told from 3 different perspectives:
1) Pre-debut Dreamcatcher (also known as Minx), who are at their lowest point in their careers and who have to make a choice. Give up their dream or re-debut as Dreamcatcher with a completely different image and sound. (verses)
2) Post-debut Dreamcatcher, who are treating every day as their last, going full speed ahead with their new image and sound, while leaving their Minx era image behind. (chorus)
3) Current day Dreamcatcher, a blend of both Minx and Dreamcatcher, who are looking back with pride and love at both versions of themselves. (intro, pre-chorus, bridge and final chorus) ❤
Bonus Minx connection: You can also see the Minx-Dreamcatcher connection in their stage outfits. They are either traditional Dreamcatcher style and colorful, or Minx style and darker. The dance also does a good job in mixing Dreamcatcher dance moves and Minx like moves.
DEMIAN is current day Dreamcatcher reflecting on the Nightmare and Dystopia era, when the Minx image was being suppressed, and how these eras were their Demian. Notice how the first verse is much longer than the second verse, since the Nightmare era has more songs than the Dystopia series.
Demian is a popular book in South Korea about how we wear different masks in different situations, you behave differently around your parents than you do with your friends. It's no secret that on-stage and off-stage Dreamcatcher were very different images.
Bonus Minx connection: The first few seconds of this song is VERY similar to a slowed down, pitched down version of the first few seconds of "Minx - Why did you come to my home?"
PROPOSE is a creepy love story, quite similar to BEcause, almost as if the Minx image took the driver seat for a moment. It feels like the moment when Dreamcatcher and Minx proposed to merge their images together.

To. You is basically Dreamcatcher's love song to Minx and how they are now embracing and love that side of themselves.
Bonus Minx connection: The synth lines and the guitar solo are mimicking vocal elements from "Minx - Like you". Lyrically these songs mirror each other, since the Minx song is about being hurt, forgetting and moving on, while the Dreamcatcher song is about healing, remembering and holding on.
I wonder if there is a "Minx - Superstar Superman" reference in the instrumental for BONVOYAGE? I'm not able to hear it, but it would complete the pattern.

This breakdown of the album gave me goosebumps! I love it. I totally see the connections of BEcause (My first ever introduction to DC) I have to admit I still to this day haven't listened to any MINX (I know, I'm embarrassed) But this is kind of cool now, cuz I'm 100% saving this comment and then going to react to all the the MINX stuff and I can see those connections in real time!! @@TysonPellegrini I think i have listened to Minx more this week then i have ever done previously. I first figured out the connection in To You, because i first thought it was a song for the fans, but when i read the lyrics something didn't add up. "Tried to forget you, lock you in the past" Dreamcatcher would never try to forget their fans, so then i made the connection that it was about Minx. Then since they made the lyrics about them, i checked out all their songs on spotify and found the instrumental connection to "Like you". Then the next time i relistened to the album i noticed the intro thing, and i immediately figured there must be more. The Demian and Propose instrumental connections are very subtle, but they are there. 😊
Minx's songs are pretty good, the reason they failed were not because their music was bad. Shut up is probably my favorite from them.
One of their producers Ollounder plays both the guitars (Electric/Acoustic/Bass) and drums if I recall.
Siyeon's high note for Propose is a lot more powerful live if that's where you're coming from..so it's probably a mix thing where maybe they could make her voice stick out a bit more..
Producers that are so musically talented 100% show. Like you can tell they put things in the songs that don't really need to be there, but they add so much texture and depth I love it!! I wanna do a mashup of all of Siyeons high notes, cuz I kinda feel like Propose might be her highest. They've all been pushing their vocal boundaries I feel. Like Reason they just BELT out so powerfully!
I've noticed they had this trend all throughout the apocalypse trilogy, started with locked inside a door, and then some love, and now demian, signature dreamcatcher, rare in kpop if not nonexistent lol, I NEED them to keep it going PLEASE, keep experimenting!!!!
I get it the pre-chorus to chorus transition is jarring for a lot of people but man after a few listens when you get used to it it just HITS
This time it's a funk-rock edm fusion with what I can only refer to as a metal flavored pre-chorus with dami sua and gahyeon going all out
No words needed for propose amazing song, dami and handong sound literally perfect in the chorus
I actually cut out a part of me saying Demian kinda reminds me of Locked inside a door, cuz YES it's one of those songs that like an ear worm. Your brain is so stimulated by all the things done in the song that stray the obvious path, and the more you listen the more you love it. I'm excited for the future and any worries that Leez not being a part of the producing have left my mind. They are in great hands with the production team and I can't wait until more people give them the recognition they deserve!

I think knowing things about music is just realizing how certain sounds make you feel and going from that. I'm no expert, I am just obsessed with sounds and how they can get you to feel different things.

yeah demian takes subverting expectations to the extreme lol. some dc songs you really need multiple listens before it clicks. to you is the ballad, proper rock ballad imo - from us, to you... as usual their ballads are directed towards insomnias. leez was the edm guy of the duo so with him out I had a feeling we would get more rock but didn't think we'd get an entire album with some form of rock in every song :o
Ahh that makes sense with more of the direction. I knew that he wasn't on this album, and do miss his input. But Ollounder and the rest of the producer deff stepped up and gave us one of the best DC albums to date. I really can't compare them to other groups, cuz DC literally has no flops!!
15:35 i think the reason why they dont go evern further with Siyeon vocals because Dreamcatcher ussualy performs live and these really high and exastuing notes can harm her vocal cords easily, no matter how much expirience you have in singing there is always a limit, thats why i think mostly the producers just shows us that she can really goo all the way but it would be hard after the song to sing this song live over and over again, but in other hand the producers are going little bit crazy for the B sides cuz mostly idols promotes the Title track not all of the B sides so if u listen most of the B sides the songs are bit stronger or the girls sings more high notes than the title tracks

I love hearing your (not so much criticisms but more so) suggestions, it doesn't make me like the song less, and instead appreciate some of the direction decisions they made and agree with you otherwise, it gives me an energy of good discussion and that's rare to find in reaction videos, I would honestly love to hear more choirs on dreamcatcher songs in general, the only one I can immediately pull out my memory would be deja vu and maison

And the perfect thing about music is that it's an art and what might work for someone might not for someone else, but neither are wrong. and 100% we need some more choirs in DC tracks. I guess fanchants sometimes are choirs lol
I think that Demian is a more personal song for Dami. She's kinda inspired by the character of Demian and has some similarities with the character of Emil Sinclair, if you think about it. The lyrics are straight out of Hermann Hesse's book.
Propose and Bon Voyage are just incredible!
I really need to read this book!! I really can't think too much of other groups taking so much influence of other media in their music and I love it. Like BEcause being this twisty love/obsess song with Inspiration from the movie "Us" it's just amazing!
@@TysonPellegrini Mind you, BTS have also used Demian as a source of inspiration for their 2016 album Wings and the title song (and MV) Blood, Sweat & Tears. I can only think of them, Gain, Oneus and Dreamcatcher using books as inspiration (non fairy tales and with more mature/dark subjects).
Demian is actually a crazy popular book in Korea and it's very much loved there. It's one of the three most famous books by Hesse.
Creations like BEcause, should be considered a multidisciplinary art project, not just an MV. The lyrics, the dancing, the music and the cinematography are insane and are all combined to create a single puzzle.
Leez is no longer working with Dreamcatcher since he signed an exclusive contract with a new company. So instead Dreamcatcher Company brought in Oliv, Pepperoni, Maddox and Doors to work with Ollounder, who all also work with Eden to form Team Edenary and produce music for Ateez. Leez was also part of the production group.

the reason why your perspective perceives the Demian's Chorus entering voice as "off" is purely in the main structure of the instrumental.
The instruments in the 3rd whole dominant note of the chord (i think the main song is in F#min7).
The vocals enter in the MINOR note of the same scale (as mentioned, the song is in F#min)
It's a very useful technique to hook the listener

Vision is still the fav song from the triology cause catchy at the first time listening and can replay any time❤
For album, defenitely Propose, wao, i really like the diversity they did in their song like Jazz Bar, Alldaylong,... and I just feel i really like Silent Night, for everything, intro, outro, title track, why they did so good

I think the producers have a theme in this album. For me all the songs have a rock band-like qualities, as in all of them can be played with a regular rock band composition

Definitely! They really laid into the rock side of DC a lot more recently, even with Reason. I like that they can go back and forth between the more EDM sounds and the more rock sounds and it still sounds flawlessly Dreamcatcher!
This whole album is just 🔥 I listen to the entire thing over and over and I can't get enough of it.

This is late but - Demian (which was written by German author Herman Hesse under a pseudonym) is a very well known book in Korea. The book became even more popular a few years ago because BTS used the book for their Blood, Sweat and Tears mv and song (one of the best videos in Kpop history). In fact a lot of the themes influence all of BTS' Wings album.
I totally agree with you about 2 songs in this album are more prog, and other 2 songs are more straighforward...
That's why a lot of people are more prefer Propose since it is a simple straight forward song with very good composed arrangements, thus we have no need to give extra thought for recognizing the hook...
It goes the same for To. You...
But, Bon Voyage and especially Demian, are the kind of songs that need to be digest first to be able to recognizing the hook...
But as I do like prog metal, Demian is just THE song...
It fits all of my style on a song, what a great introduction on the new producing team...

Genre blender at its best. This album is definitely more blended than previous albums.
Demian means to subdue, to tame. But i dont have a clue as to its relation with the song. But there is a book Demian. But then, i just know the name of the book but have no idea what it's about.
My favourite is Propose after BonVoyage. But for the past 12hours or so, i have been humming to Demian. I dont know. I think i am crazy with Dreamcatcher.😅
Edit: apparently the book Demian is about a boy growing up in war time conflicted with good and evil or temptations. And apparently BTS used the concept of the book for their Wings album.
They really do the best at blending genres for an album, no other group can come close to how wide their songs are.
I'm gonna have to pick up that book! It sounds super interesting and knowing that it connects with a DC song, will just make the read that much better.

It's great when composers/producers experiment new things in songs. Demian chorus sounds unexpected, the same way the chorus of 'IVE - Kitsch' recently did to many people. Sounds that is a different song. It can be dangerous in a title track, but for a b-side is great to do things like this. A song that i need some listens to understand 'musically' what's really happening.
Propose is one of the best b-sides for me now, i'm not sure if it remember some groups i liked in the past, but it sounds familiar to me, and what i said in another video, one of the best line distribution in a dreamcatcher song. And the chorus sounds really fun to play on guitar.
From the apocalypse trilogy, 'To You' is the weakest ballad for me. It's personal, but in a order, Always-RainyDay-ToYou.
22:40 a happy light song, as you said. It feels much more a ost to a great friendship scene in a drama, not a emotional song as the other two. Totally not a bad song, but is one that i will not listen.
It is super risky experimenting, which is why I think a lot of western music is just too safe/samey. It sells and the labels don't need to try anything different to get the $$$ That's another reason why I love kpop is because it is soo different. Even in other groups' pop songs it's nothing like western music. Also now I'm very excited to check out the IVE song haha
