  • Lucas goes to the city of Artesia with the family behind BADMAASH and embarks on an Indian food crawl. Brothers Arjun and Nakul Mahendro, along with their father, Pawan Mahendro take Lucas to a handful of places they believe get Indian food right.
    They start at Julio’s, a pizza place that specializes in pizzas topped with chicken tikka. Then they go to Podi Dosa for idli and dosa, staples of southern Indian cooking. Their last stop is Surati Farsan, a dessert and snack shop that features Jalebi and chai. Lucas talks to the BADMAASH guys about what makes a great curry, how to define fusion cuisine and the impact of social media on the restaurant world.

    I agree with one point.I have experienced in Australia that every single food in every Indian restaurant taste the same. Indian restaurant outside India use a lot of shortcuts they use the same sauce for every cuisine from butter chicken to palak paneer. It is an insult to Indian Cuisine and people loving that food is more weird. Some of my friends who were from UK also pointed out the same.
    In Indian cuisine, every cuisine has its own unique sauce and their is no mother sauces in Indian Food.

      there is nothing like typical india food...every state in india has its own cuisine...only fine dining restaurant can serve authentic indian dishes in US. in india we have mexican food and it taste different from what you get in mexico because of change in ingredients. because even bell pepper or wheat flour is also completaly different in india than in west. only if someone import the raw stuff then its possible to serve authenic food which tastes good.

    Badmaash seems to be an authentic representation of where the Mahendro family came from and who they are individually. If I ever get to LA it will definitely be on my list of places to try out. Nakul's type casting of white Americans view on authenticity bums me out. Unfortunately, there's always going to be ignorant customers but does that justify stigmatizing the entire Caucasian population?

    • @thoughtdistorted
      @thoughtdistorted 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Adam Rogers I didn’t catch where he stigmatizes white people??? Authenticity is doing what they think is good and with heart.. and I mean their restaurant has a bunch of fusion dishes that would not be considered “authentic”.. and I don’t think it’s bad to not know what authentic dishes from a certain culture are..no one outside of that culture expects you to know or be familiar with their kind of food.

    • @adamrogers8325
      @adamrogers8325 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thoughtdistorted @ it's pretty blatant "America...white Americans". He even corrects himself to exclude any other American subgroup. Regardless of his view I couldn't agree with you more. People looking for food and experiences that are unfamiliar to them is important and part of what makes living in this country incredible! Whether that food is considered culturally, regionally, or personally authentic is beside the point. Having the desire to learn why something is important to someone else is what matters, I think.

      @shashaank195 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes

    • @thoughtdistorted
      @thoughtdistorted 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@adamrogers8325 Well.. America is mostly white and average Americans probably haven't had traditional "authentic" -name any ethnic food...These "ethnic/traditional" restaurants are just not for the typical White American population.. You're not going to naturally go out of your way to go to a Chinese joint for some jellyfish salad and roast duck - unless you saw an article or an Asian friend took you. The average person isn't thinking about the cultural implications of that. I think it's great that people are beginning to think it's important and representation in food matter. And I think that is their whole reason why they opened their establishment to provide GOOD Indian food that is accessible to everyone.
