It's amazing how much Shore has broadened and matured as a composer since his early works in the 80s-- From the fairly simple electronics of SCANNERS up to the full orchestration of LORD OF THE RINGS, and everything in between. You can really hear his growth.
His score of 'Big' is phenomenal musically and emotionally. However, the way he guides every movie along; nobody does it better... except for Zimmer in Batman, lol.
It's interesting how there seems to be little connection between how good a film is and how good it's score is. I'm not speaking about these particular movies, just in general.
One of Howard Shore's best works is the soundtrack to Tom Selleck's "An Innocent Man". It was very moody and is similar to "The Silence Of The Lambs. Great Movie! Great Soundtrack!
@chuck281 The Fly is really good. Good enough to be made in an Opera in 2008 in fact. Howard Shore did most of the compositions for that one too. The opening theme of The Fly is great, and the finale/closing theme is as fitting to the ending as any score has ever been.
@lupoistheman1 Danny DeVito - David Newman Darren Aronofsky - Clint Mansell Mel Brooks - John Morris Joe Dante - Jerry Goldsmith John Hughes - Ira Newborn Rob Reiner - Marc Shaiman
Not to downplay any other partnerships in any way. There are some brilliant ones out there I absolutely love. And of course, composers can have lasting collaborations with multiple directors. I always thought it was a shame that Hitchcock ditched Herrmann is such bad fashion after some trully terific scores, simply to chase a mode "comerical" sound.
@littlefattyxf The Fly was good enough to be made into an Opera in 2008. Howard Shore did the music for that one too. David Cronenberg's The Fly is one of the very few remakes that better the original. The only other I can think of is Carpenter's The Thing. Videodrome is seriously creepy, and a little sick too.
it's a bit sad that he didn't scored Shutter Island although the final tracks themself are fitting perfectliy. I think he would have done an awesome job
@eddie201058 Eh, TH-cam is lousy with LotR soundtrack videos. It's good to hear a collection of some of Shore's broad range without that, remarkable though it is.
Too bad his SNL work isn't included here. I know these are all movies but he created the show's soundtrack and was their musical director for years. Same with Philadelphia (my favorite,) and Big.
Glad to see this one back up, easily one of the best composers around today.

this is one of the very few composers that can actually move me to tears. His special relationship with Cronenberg is simply amazing.
A very good composer.
I love the Silence of the Lambs score.
Thanks for all of your postings, benydebney!

And now 9 years after your Post comes a movie called Score out🤯

Great Movie!
Great Soundtrack!
mrs. doubtfire is actually his best work, it is great to listen to and fits the movie perfectly, sad to see it wasn't here
Thank you, I'll be sure to check them out.
Howard Shore should score Star Wars movies. He would make a freaky good soundtrack.
I agree. John Williams is too brash and showy.
I like John Williams, but Shore, would be a very good replacement.
Howard Shore is the man
Daaaaaamn he would do a terrific work in Alien 3 by David Fincher... My favourite score by Howard Shore is The Fly!!!!
eXistenZ is defiantly one of his best even though everything he does is great
I just love The Silence of the Lambs.
Damn, the scores for Videodrome and Scanners are just so damn unsettling.
Love the Silence of the Lambs music.....not allowed to watch the movie yet though X(
What about lord of the rings? its one of the best!
@chuck281

Sergio Leone-Ennio Morricone
Ron Howard-James Horner
Zak Snyder-Tyler Bates
John Carpenter-um, John Carpenter
@littlefattyxf

and goldsmith all!
How did he manage to write so many scores between the Lord of the Rings in the late 90s early 2000s?
@lupoistheman1
Hayao Miyazaki - Joe Hisaishi
Angelo Badalamenti - David Lynch
Darrran Arronofsky - Clint Mansell
Michael Giacchino - J.J. Abrams
it's a bit sad that he didn't scored Shutter Island although the final tracks themself are fitting perfectliy. I think he would have done an awesome job

I know. I just got mad at how sarcastic you sounded with the "Santa Claus and Ice Cream Bunny" thing, thinking eiter you offended me or dissed me..
@lupoistheman1 And from the looks of it David Fincher - Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross
Videodrome....nightmares
@ONSLAUGHTxx
Steven Speilberg+John Williams
David Cronenberg+ Howard Shore
"Gangs of New York" came out in 2002...
@cantri15 Didn't you read the description?
None of the partnerships mentioned compare to the work Spielberg & Williams have done in terms of scope, longevity, popularity and loyalty.
Whoever made this, badass job but you skipped Dead Ringers
Peter Jackson- Howard Shore
John Williams + Steven Spielberg
Tim Burton + Danny Elfman
Steven Spielberg + John Williams
Sam Mendes + Thomas Newman
@ONSLAUGHTxx ::))) I'd prefer Cronenberg's Combination to Peter Jackson's :)))
@StupidWizardFilms Didn't you read the description?
Did Howard Shore compose music for the 1993 film Sliver if someone knows thanks.
The one with Sharon Stone? Yes.
@@BooneLuleyo Thank You! : )
@lupoistheman1 Michael Mann - Elliott Goldenthal
add the lord of the rings and the hobbit ! :)
i can´t belive they´re missing
@lupoistheman1 its actually George Lucas-John Williams
Pixar + Michael Giacchino
would have been perfect with "Visiting Home" from Big.
John Carpenter + John Carpenter
Too bad his SNL work isn't included here. I know these are all movies but he created the show's soundtrack and was their musical director for years. Same with Philadelphia (my favorite,) and Big.
Do you know any of his scores that are lighter and more livelier?
P.S. I know LOTR has some and I've already heard his score for The Last Mimzy.
@lupoistheman1
Sergio Leone - Ennio Morricone
Very important.
@lupoistheman1 J.J. Abrams - Michael Giacchino
Where the Hell is LOTR!?!?
Steven Spielberg + John Williams also
the score for Ed Wood made me think of the Digimon theme *facepalm
John Carpenter also had Alan H.
@crwdfwtx I second that.
well. can u put the soundtrack's name too?
wow no LOTR??
WHAT ABOUT THE LORD OF THE RINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2a + 1a - 2b = 3a - 2b.
well, ok: Tim Burton + Danny Elfman (Edward Scissorhands, The Corpse Bride etc.)
And where is his best music, The Lord of the Rings?
DOES NO-ONE READ THE DESCRIPTION??!!?!?!
@JONIMASAKIS. That's stupid.
what about the hobbit then
This video was made in 2009 they didn't have any music of the hobbit
@cesarjimenezanimator You Annoy Me, sir. Go Watch Santa Claus and the Ice Cream Bunny
No Lord of The Rings? Lies! This is LIES! The TITLE IS A LIE LIKE THE CAKE!
If you cant put the music from L.O.T.R. then this whole film u made has no use at all LOL.
