In October 2016, I assisted again the ciné-concert of LOTR in Paris (it was my 4th time?). Holding a 3rd class ticket, I sit behind, near the corner, and far from the symphony. Just before the start of the movie, under the dark light, an old man and a lady went towards my row. I quickly realized that the man was Howard Shore. Surprisingly, nobody else noticed that. Howard Shore sit down just next to me. I was excited, I could not breath, I discretely took a selfie of him... 10 minutes later, he went away with the lady... In that ciné-concert, he did not go up the stage to meet the symphony... I still has the selfie till today...
What I find crazy is that it's one of the best movie score ever written if not the best, but it seems his other scores are quite generic which I find odd
This should have many more views. Howard is the man! 1,000 gigs in four years that's an incredible apprenticeship. Just hearing some of the LOTR soundtrack is powerful, moving and a huge and inextricable part of the beauty of these great films.
International Music Industry FACT: In my humble personal opinion..= 'Howard Shore' is the Greatest Composer Alive, nowadays (for sure among the World 'Top 5..' with James Newton Howard..Mychael Danna..Danny Elfman..Harry Gregson-Williams..Aaron Zigman..etc..). His use..of Composition Techniques is a "mix of the best of the best..Tech..". He uses his UNIQUE MUSIC INTUITION..when woking on his Harmony & Counterpoint (both together "at the same time.." = which is THE WAY..of doing it). His Instrumentations..Orchestrations..are SUPERB = Creating Truly Unique Atmospheres.. His Film Scores = yes you Listen to his Music..AND at the same time YOU 'FEEL' HIS MUSIC=which..it's the purpose. 'The Silent of the Lambs' (to me..) is the Greatest Film Score EVER Created..Written..Composed..at All Levels.
Middle Earth is the manifestation of the music of the Valar, who were created by Illuvatar (God) to jam with him basically. Melkor went rogue, introducing his own theme and causing dissonance in the music. This is the origin of evil in middle Earth. Illuvatar allowed this because the resolution of the dissonance was more beautiful than the original harmony. I read somewhere that Shore knew this when he composed the music for the films. It gives the whole thing so much more depth to understand this, because you're hearing the battle between good and evil as the story goes on
I wish he could be asked to score something even more epic than LOTR. Probably not even possible, sadly. It kind of sucks that LOTR will most likely always be his peak. A glorious peak level, but a peak nonetheless.
True. Though most people aren't aware of his contemporary music. Sadly most people are only interested in symphonic music when film or video games are involved.
This guy interviewing is too fast.. Too exited maybe?!.. Jumping from question ro question.. If you are gonna interview a genius. .be silent and listen.. Be humble.. And patient.. Be attentive and relaxed.. Breath.. And let us and let him.. Connect to the huge concept of his words trying to describe his inner magical world.. Please!!!!
The lord of the rings soundtrack is beyond extraordinary. Nothing else has quite reached me in the same measure.
It sounds like music by the native people of Middle Earth
Try the Bloodborne soundtrack! I recommend The First Hunter, it’s my favorite song on the album!
The Elvish themes are absolutely breathtaking
14:00 starts talking about LOTR
bless you laddie

Impeccable interview, it's so special hearing Howard Shore discuss his works.

Fantastic interviewer. Just amazing questions. As a musician/songwriter, these are the questions I would want to know!

All we want to hear about is LOTR, and you know what; all Howard wants to talk about is LOTR

Derrick Owen LOTR cinematically might be the peak
