I was watching another channel last night devoted to making scale model tanks and airplanes which, like fishing lures, requires a lot of masking and painting. In this video the guy was using a new masking tape from Tamiya Corp. This masking tape is able to bend and follow curves in a manner that regular masking tape cannot. He was actually able to lay it down flat in one continuous length in a S pattern without having to cut multiple lengths of tape to form the curves. I thought I'd pass this on to you as it might be helpful in lure painting. Nice looking lure and action to it.
Lovely looking lure. I think with that amount of weighting it would be more suitable for summer fishing with a fast retrieve. I would love to see a similar version of this lure that is suspending or very slow sinking, look great for pike 👍

Something that I’m always need is to have the possibility to reach as long distances as I can from the sea shore when casting. I was wondering how long can you cast this lure? I ask you this because I want to carve a hard wooden lure like yours too, using a system of fixed weight instead a shifting one, like the ones I’m currently using with my Attilas. Would you please give me some hints? Are you planning to do a shifting weight lure? I know I have asked you about this before, but given that you are asking for new ideas I do again. Have you considered beveling the edges of the tongue? I personally don't like the look of a big piece of plastic sticking out the front and think it would improve the look of your baits even more

Thank you! The lip is cut out of a sheet of Lexan Polycarbonate. You’ll want to stay away from the acrylic sheets from the hardware store cuz they just arn’t though enough. The thickness of the Lexan in this video is 3/16 inch.. not sure what that is in mm.
That would explain it. The one that I got was acrylic. I am working on swimbait carving at the moment but soon I want to try another crank bait. Thanks!
its curious how here in Europe a jerkbait is commonly know as a lipless lure that you jerk with your rod and reel to make it dart in the water and how we know the lure you made in the video as a wobbler.
Yeah I’ve noticed that difference. I grew up calling the long thin baits with a lip jerkbaits. And they’re meant to be jerked in, and dance around on the retrieve. We call the lipless ones Gliders.
We also call the lipless ones gliders. As far as i know the style of lure you made is only called jerkbait in North America we use the same kind of lures here too with identical fishing method we just never called them jerkbaits. Remember the different terminology being very confusing in the beginning when i started looking for information online about lure making years ago. Cool video btw, you should consider doing little bit of narrarating while you make your lures.
I love your channel and videos. Thanks for sharing. Have you ever tested how much weight the twisted wire eye-lets can hold when glued in? Many large jerkbaits have the front eyelet and all hooks connected through the lure body with a wire. I wonder how necessary this is. To make a lure so beautiful, would mean it'd be heart breaking to have bust off. Please, please continue posting videos!
Thank you! These are 0.092” thick screw eyes, and it’s common to bend out 3x strong hooks on screw eyes. I’ve never seen them fail even with the 50+ inch muskies over here
From the tests on lure building forums I would say they would hold about 60-120 lbs, the reason for through wireing is if the fish destroys the lure(breaks the wood), the wires would still allow you to land the fish (in both cases the lure would be destroyed). Through wireing only adds extra noticeable strength if you are using a wood like balsa which does not have a lot of grab for the screws to dig into, so they get pulled out easier. The way hook eyes fail is by pulling the wire straight, not a failure of the wood or glue, so they wouldn't (completely)ruin the lure if they failed.

Is there a purpose a thick bill does for a bait opposed to a regular bill? The way you make your bill's gives an awesome look to your baits
You should invest in a scroll saw to cut down on the burning your band saw is doing when making tight saw turns. Love your baits.
Have you thought to add buckshot or splitshots to the belly of any of your baits? That rattle is a great attractor to fish. Great channel 👍🏻

Thank you! This is Poplar wood, and I use polyurethane to seal the wood before painting.

Thank you! With crankbaits you want to keep the bouancy of the body high. That always helps with action. I’d say add more lead.
