Back in the 80's I made different style balsa crankbaits & spinnerbaits from my homemade molds. You do amazing work on your lures.

One of the best "how to videos" I have found! Love the addition of the dog, the different angles and how it was kept so clean, simple and organised. It has inspired me to do a batch of lures.

197 people disliked this??? I think maybe they are envious? Great work man. I fished for 40 of my 44 years. I use to fish a lot of bass tournaments. Several baits you’ve made are really good. Great job 👍🏻

You've gotten a lot more comfortable in front of the camera and your dialog is tops. I wouldn't want you to change anything with the current videos, but an ASMR video thrown in the mix once in a while wouldn't piss anyone off. You edit this style very well.

Glue with contact cement some 1/8 thick strips of leather to your vise jaws and it will not leave dents in wood when clamping tight.

You might be able to speed things up if you turn some of them on a lathe. I would think it should speed up the process quite a bit. For me it would be easy to turn them instead of carving with a chisel. Just a thought.

Hello Marling, greetings from Peru... once again, I was watching your video and I have some questions for you. When you applied the sand seal, how many coats do you usually apply? do you sand the plug between each coat? How much time do you let them dry? Same questions when you apply polyurethane. Are sand seal and polyurethane water based? How far can you cast one of those plugs? Thank you in advance for your help.

He answered the question its about 5 comments down the page... he posted the answer 2 months before antonio999us asked, anyway the guy has pretty much showed you his entire process im sure you can put your thinking cap on, stop being lazy and experiment for yourself and work out how many coats the lure needs by trial and error.
Jeez some people these days want everything served to them on a silver platter and not have to lift a single finger...

Do you thin the createx paint? My droplet size is fairly large. Trying to figure out if it's my air brush or if I should thin the paint some. I want a finer fade between colors on my spoons.

    • @marlingbaits

Gus Tanner I Only thin Createx when Doing detail work that needs low PSI, and when I do I use the High Performance Reducer. Have an Iwata Eclipse HP-CS airbrush, keep it really clean, and raise the PSI when I'm not getting good atomization.

How do you determine how much material will be taken off with the chamfer? Is it always a 1/4” or 1/8” in from the edge?
