  • Beautiful and interesting Dambulla ancient Rock Temple complex. A series of caves turned into Buddhist temples, decorated with colorful paintings and many beautiful buddha statues. The way up the hill was full of playful monkeys :) Su starts us off with a basic introduction to Buddhism. October 17, 2014.

This is a wonderful video. From what I understood from the video, I would like to point out that at 11:29, he is actually referring to the three monastic orders currently seen in Sri Lanka which are Siam Nikaya, Amarapura Nikaya and Ramanna Nikaya rather than what you have written in the captions. These three orders exist because each of the orders brought higher ordination back to Sri Lanka from different places such as Thailand and Myanmar when higher ordination in Sri Lanka had become non-existent during the colonial period.

actually, there is an alternative entrance located in the south of the cave temple, bypassing the steep slope along the golden temple route where you hiked. I took the southern entrance during my trip to Dambulla cave temple last June. around the area, there are a few Buddhist monasteries and shrines as well as a new ticket counter for the temple itself. there are also people selling beautiful flowers like lotuses and water lilies at the alternative entrance.

Should have taken the "old and correct route" "climbing the rock" to go to the Dabulla Historical Cave Temple ....at the top of the hill........ the route starts few meters from the 'golden temple' entrance from facing the Dabulla - Kandy main road .......it is easy to climb and the view is fabulous ....
