    3:55 When talking about internet speeds they're messured in Bits not bytes so 500 is 500Mbit per second Mbps not MBps which is Megabytes per second. Same with Gbps Giga bits per second and GBps for Giga bytes per second. Common mistake alot people make

    My BT contract includes Halo and it includes a Price Promise that says that ‘you’ll never pay more than a new customer when you renew your contract. My contract doesn’t expire until 2024 but I will definitely look to use that Price Promise.

    • @daniel_coe
      @daniel_coe  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a new 'halo' customer as I found out that halo for new customers can be expensive. If you find you don't need or use the added halo options when it comes to renewal, I would see if you can drop it

    one odd ‘benefit’ of being on virgin is their terrible routers means for several years now I’ve only used them as the modem so I have all my devices etc and LAN on my own wifi - so hopefully any switches in provider would be fairly painless.

    I don't know if your in a You Fibre enabled area, they do not implement the April increase 3.9% + fpi for the duration of the contract if you sign-up for 2 years with them, I'm paying £27.99 month for 500 mbps, I haven't had to renew with them yet but we'll see what happens when the time comes..

    I gave up with BT when i was in the exact same situation and frustrating communication as you faced. Moved to Shell Energy for 900 speeds at 45.99/month

    Convoluted and shades of what goes on at Vodafone (although I am still only able to get FTTC). I am at end of contract and thought could simply negotiate adjustment in monthly payments. I wish! As you say its about their systems. The only deal in town is getting, effectively, the new customer deal where you get new router and line is disconnected then reconnected on the same day BUT that means old original phone number can't be transferred to new account. I am estimating FTTP will be available in a few months or so. Do you think I will be able to keep my phone number if I upgrade to to FTTP with the same ISP? (Vodafone does support voip phone).

    • @daniel_coe
      @daniel_coe  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I should think you can keep the number.

    • @safirahmed
      @safirahmed ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BT mentions that a customer's existing landline phone number can only be kept if both landline and broadband services are recontracted and renewed. BT states those who only take broadband will lose their old landline phone number and the old number cannot be returned.

  • @portman8909
    @portman8909 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    BT isn't doing our FTTP installation at the moment, so I'll probably just take out a 24 month contract with them. Most likely other internet providers will probably show up by then.

    • @daniel_coe
      @daniel_coe  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what happened to me. BT was the only choice, but about a year later, Talk Talk and Vodafone offered it.

  • @ELPaso1990TX

    One thing I’ve heard is that Openreach will no longer be upgrading any areas to fibre if they only have copper ADSL. Only places with fibre FTTC etc will be upgraded. If you have no BT fibre at all in your area at present, you won’t be getting any fibre in the future. These areas have been removed from Openreach build plans. Customers will probably be offered a mobile broadband package when the copper network is finally retired, but they most probably won’t be getting any hardwired fibre service.

    Another note
    They butchered my existing number when I re joined which they lost and said they can’t get it back
    So I fought till the end and asked for compensation since this is the number everyone contact me through and end up getting £300 worth of bt credit with new number but it’s a shame that I lost my old number

    • @daniel_coe
      @daniel_coe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They said to me it wasn't certain I could have it back. But someone else at bt said they don't release old numbers straight away again. You can see why as if they gave it away quickly that new owner might get unwanted phone calls

  • @ram64man
    @ram64man 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It’s about time bt and other be stopped from charging more when renewing, it’s not hard to do a port to a voip provider for the same 14 pound price of the phone , plus it can link to a mobile number forward as well , do that and safe a small fortune per month on contract plus no headaches when swapping provider at end just unplug the Ethernet to the grandstream and plug it in the new router simple no delay in number swapping , no monopoly making it harder to swap just port and go

    What a convoluted way of doing what you'd have had to do if you just signed up with Vodafone in the first instance. Would have saved yourself the time and hassle of multiple phone calls.

    • @daniel_coe
      @daniel_coe  ปีที่แล้ว

      I bet I'll find out again in 2 years time, when I probably move to Vodafone, although I've just moved my mobile to O2 after being with Vodafone for 30 years.

    • @nishanckarunatillake3361
      @nishanckarunatillake3361 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually was in the same boat as you were back in 2021, and I made the call to move to Vodafone. I was on BT copper at that time. I was offered full-fibre for 29.99 think it’s 145 mbps. But Vodafone was giving it was 23, the 100mbps with cash back it would be 18-19 over the 2 yr contact.
      What a nightmare I had with Vodafone with them not being able to get the phone line setup correctly to work with the fiber connection. Eventually cancelled it after two months since Vodafone couldn’t correct the issue and give a working phone line. But that whole process was extremely painful, hours and hours on customer support lines.
      I eventually moved back to BT and they gave me the original deal they offered me before leaving. Next day connection and everything worked perfectly including the phone line.
      Got a price increase to 33 with April increase, but 6 months before the 2 yr contract ended got a call from them offering an upgrade to 500 for 34.99.
      Just wanted to say grass is not always greener on the other side. With Vodafone if things get set up correctly you are in luck. But any issues, their customer service is appalling and very little technical teams to put issues right. Just my experience.

    I have just upgraded my contract and moving to fibre also have halo 3 I tried to get a normal contract, without halo I know someone in the same building is only paying around £30.00 a month, it is ridiculous the way they do this I am also a pensioner, and do not get a reduction. There is a lot of traffic so the Wi fi goes off frequently, this is why I am changing to now paying £52.65 a month with landline to £51.99 for 100 fibre halo 3. I am definitely, ending the contract when it is up and will try and get a new one.

    My situation replicates yours in many ways, got 5 months left on contract. Found price increases excessive. Refusing to accept offers they keep sending. Just going to sit it out until the end and see what's on offer. Good to hear your experience.

    • @daniel_coe
      @daniel_coe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine wasn't the best way to probably do it, but in the end, I got what I wanted. I think it is nearly all sorted now. I have sent the router back, and I now have my old phone number back again.

    • @waqasahmed939
      @waqasahmed939 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@daniel_coeMine is a different strategy
      I've got my own WiFi network which makes moving broadband incredibly easy from provider to provider. Getting a new router is a 10 minute router switch then which is not a biggy
      The way I've done it though is:
      - Let my parent's broadband contract deliberately lapse until around November time which was about four months. That's when black Friday deals exist and that's proven to be the best time to switch. I now ONLY look for 12 to 24 month contracts as of black Friday ish time
      For my own, I initially got an 18 month contract from Virgin Media. I got it installed in August 2022, and it's just going to lapse. I'll be getting Vodafone in on a 24 month contract (I did look for an 18 month contract which would be more beneficial for me given it lapses very soon)
      I'll let my Vodafone contract lapse in February 2026, and deliberately pay the higher fee until November 2026. Then I'll call and moan about the price
      I've noticed that they consistently have the best deals around then
      The only way you'd scupper yourself here perhaps is if you pay for Sky or VM TV. Then you'd be pretty much forced onto 18 month contracts instead

      usually as a new customer its around £25-29 per month. we arent scripted we just pitch higher as were targeted on a value per hour in sales and it affects our commision if we dont hit targets
