    Hi Dr. Randy, thank you for all the work you put in your videos, they are my go to source when I need clear and well explained material. now that you mention red flags, I graduated medical school in 2010 and haven't applied for residency since, is that considered a red flag? do I need to prepare my case to explain why?

    • @RandyNeilMD
      @RandyNeilMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Your hardest part will be making out of the stack of 1500 applications the programs receive... You will have to think-outside-the-box and do something within the hospital you are wishing to apply to residency.

    Hi! Don’t know if it’s a red flag but what’s your advice for someone who moved to US later in life so YOG> 10yrs but has been working throughout in their home country

    • @RandyNeilMD
      @RandyNeilMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As long as you can explain it... I'd strongly recommend working at the hospital you are hoping for residency in some fashion... scribe, Grant writer... anything to show you are serious about that place. Without the insider connection, it will be hard to get beyond the screening process.

    Dr. Randy, what kind of background check service do hospitals use? Can I use it to do a background check on myself? I have reckless driving record from ~10 yr ago, I believe it's wiped off the record.

      Not too many programs will come out and say that they have a cut-off... I always go back to doing whatever it takes for them to see your work ethic and how you can make their program better. Create something to improve the didactics... desire to become a Program Director... anything to be a little different.

    Is there anyway I can cover it?

    • @RandyNeilMD
      @RandyNeilMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sane, Somehow I'd tie it in with a "family decision" and then quickly deflect into a strength... For example: When I interviewed and the Director said, "I never heard of ...(my school)..." I quickly said, it's a relatively unknown accredited school that had poor teaching, but I put in the work and went back and taught at school. I said that I would bring that same level of work here to the residency program etc... Just have a plan and strategy.

      Not gone. It's never gone until it's impossible. I assure you that more people fail these exams than we realize... It's just never spoken about. Find my video about when to quit...

      As an IMG I would make it a point to pass all exams including STEP 3... Focus on those, then volunteer/work where you have the best chance to get a spot.

    I'm completed my Internship in April 2021. I gave neet pg in sept 2021 and got decent score. Due to delay in counseling process this year I got MS ENT seat in April 2022. Now I didn't join that seat and decided to give usmle. I will definitely give my step1 in dec 2022.
    So I have 1 gap year in my CV ie from April 2021 to April 2022 in which i prepared for neet pg for few months, wrote a research paper for few months and worked as medical officer in a hospital for 2 months. So is this 1 gap year a red flag for application. Wat can do to overcome this

    • @RandyNeilMD
      @RandyNeilMD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my opinion, the best way to overcome any perceived "flaw" is to own it... I'll make a video describing what I mean.
