The water in Songkran symbolizes fertility, refreshment, prosperity and purification. The passage of the sun while cleansing your soul. Whether you wash water on your hands with family in private, or its a packed pickup truck vs a scooter watering each other, Songkran has a deep meaning and the entire country is having fun at the same time no matter how remote.
Thanks for explaining what the festival was about. Nice to know why people are celebrating.
Frankly, we (Thais) don't shoot water straight to the head or face area. It can be interpreted as impolite and/or cause some injure to people. We tend to use face/body powder on cheeks, esp on girls'. And of course, you need to ask their permissions before doing so. 😁 With this Thai way, most of us can have great time in Songkran with no trouble. 😊

ยิงหัวไม่เท่าไร ยิงหน้า ในระยะไกลมันไม่ได้เจ็บอะไร แค่ระวังดวงตา. การเล่นน้ำเพื่อความสนุก มันไม่เกี่ยวกับเรื่องการให้เกียรติหรือไม่ให้เกียรติ เพราะมันเป็นประเพณีที่ทำกันมาตั้งนานแล้ว เพราะแทบทุกคนออกมาส่วนใหญ่ก็เพื่อเล่นน้ำคลายร้อนกัน. ถ้าห่วงเรื่องความอันตรายก็แค่ใส่แว่นกันน้ำ. จะยิงหัวยิงหน้า มันไม่เจ็บอะไรมากนักหรอก. เพราะเวลาอาบน้ำ น้ำจากฝักบัวมันก็ตกลงบนหน้าคุณ ไม่ต่างอะไรกันมากนักหรอก.

It is a festival where villagers make rockets and bring them to compete.

Songkran is one of the best celebrations to partake in. This was my 3rd. I was at Icon Siam during the first day. Played there a few hours then spent the evening up the river at Asiatique. Great vids. Keep'm rolling. I'm back in Sep.

This video brings me so much joy. ring back memories when we used to play with water in my childhood during Carnaval in south america. Couldn't have a proper songkran wen I visited Thailand last year, but will definitely go there next year. Thanks mate for your videos, they're genuine and such a good feeling. Keep up the good work !

FYI for foreigners who join Songkran (maybe next year) if using water gun, don't shoot people in the head or face, it is unsafe as it can lead to eye irritation or worse injury.
I think this should be elevated to be a worldwide tradition like New Year's universal celebration !! I love Christmas but it still got too much of the religious undertone, somewhat so I don't think it would never be widely accepted. But SongKran is different.
To forget about all our petty differences, everyone in every nations can throw water into a bucket, turn on a garden faucet, tank up a water gun, stand in front of their houses AND JUST HAVE FUN with people all around you.
It hardly costs anything. No presents to buy someone for. No places to travel to. No candies to give away. No food to cook & wait table for someone. No Gods to pray to. Just Peace & Good will toward your fellow man (with a twist of getting wet). Now why is that so appealing !!

Bro, every single time I go to the beach I like bringing my water gun. I’ve always enjoyed water guns and water balloon fights as a child I’ve always associated that with summer. Seeing those official super soakers from the 90’s brought back memories I use to own a few. Including the ones in the video. That one water gun the guy had that’s rechargeable is called a spyraLX he had the cheaper version. The more expensive version can hold a small amount of water. This video made me love the country even more.
