- I explore the Itaewon neighborhood in Seoul, South Korea! During my time there I tried Korean Barbecue (KBBQ) for the first time and it was one of the best meals I had in Korea without question!

Zane your Korean videos are brilliant. During the past four years I have watched many videos of Seoul, filmed by various people but yours surpass them all. My late husband and I always wanted to visit Korea sadly it wasnt to be, thank you so much for your calm, respectful way you have filmed... you have taken in the places we so wanted to go. Thank you so much. Best wishes for your future
.
Everyone needs to have this mind-blowing experience called Korean bbq!! I get it every week now
The desert drink is called SooJungGwa, cinnamon and persimmon drink.
Da Vinci Motel is a performance program planned by a Korean credit card company. It is not a real motel. If you get help from locals, you can truly enjoy Korean food and culture.
Itaewon and Korea in general, is a nightlife area...most things happen at night
You need to shake the makgeolli bottle before drinking. It's got stuff in it that needs to be mixed in well!
Zane is a polite person and his way of showing the downtown area mainly during the day is unique and fun. There are plenty of colorful nightlife videos on TH-cam. I like his quiet and calm explanations. If you go to Hongdae, I'm looking forward to it.
I wish someone showed him how to eat a Korean BBQ . He would have enjoyed it way more than he did here.
Yes. And he didn't shake the Makgeoli before he drank it either. 😢
he's gotta start meeting up with people in the comments. Would elevate the experience most of the time
That murky drink is called makgeolli. It is fermented rice wine. If you drink one bottle a day regularly, you will have baby soft skin without wrinkles and flat abdomen even at your old age. Ha ha
I love your vlogging style. You just hike around and show us everything you met
literally the best kind of vlogs
He knows Seoul is a nightlife city. But for some reason he is avoiding night time. In his other videos in other countries he always visited popular areas at peak night time. But not in Korea for some odd reason. And he's clearly doing it on purpose with knowledge. Maybe it's a good thing or bad thing. But these daytime videos are great and get to see Seoul during daytimes.
Maybe he was traveling in seoul on weekdays
You can party on any day in places like Itaewon or Hongdae
The outdoor plastic chairs and tables and cooking stalls in Korea originated from ancient Korean culture called pojang macha aka pocha. Plastic chairs in southeast Asia originated from Korean pojang macha. Korean business men in southeast Asia introduced plastic chairs and all those chairs and tables are manufactured by Korean companies originally in Southeast Asia.
You should go to Hongdae where there are a lot of young people especially on Friday night. 😅
Pretty cool antique shops.
As a foreigner who lived in Korea, I personally hated Itaewon. It's got some cool restaurants and shops but I never felt as safe there BECAUSE of the large amount of foreigners. Plus, for me personally, I was in Korea because I wanted to immerse myself in the country and culture. I would have stayed in my own country if I was just trying to stick around foreigners and foreigner heavy districts. I still recommend people visit Itaewon when visiting because there are some cool things, but if you're going to Korea to enjoy Korea...Itaewon isn't that vibe.

This is how I feel too when I travel to places. I'd rather be were the locals are. I'll be staying in Seoul for the entire month of March. What areas in Seoul would you recommend?
@@WushuTazI’ll be there in March too! Haha. You’ve for sure gotta go to Jamsil when the cherry blossoms are out. Honestly, I still think certain touristy places are worth seeing but let me check in with some friend still there and see what’s trending right now amongst Koreans. I’ll get back to you!
you have to know how to eat grill meat with scallion seasoned you tried. and wrap meat in the lettuce and put scallion, sauce on top which you missed. I will be your guide to your trip to Korea next time ^^
Strongly recommend to go yeon-hee-dong. This town is made from gentrification. From hong dae to yeon nam and yeon nam to yeon hee now. I can say there are lots of artisan based stores, restaurants in town. You can easily find interesting stuffs there
Recommendation : Gwanghwamoon tour will be good experience for you.
The street where you ate the barbecue literally is the center of the nightlife district of Itaewon. Those were all bars and clubs you walked past...
I personally really enjoyed Waikiki Pub!
Welcome to my neighborhood ❤
PLUM JUICE is often served after meal in restaurants for your digestion.
go to Itawon at night time if you have a chance. It's really different with day time. :)
Love the vibe. I love the calmness you shows.
As a Korean American who grew up in both countries, I find your videos of Korea so fascinating. I go back and forth regularly and take a lot for granted. It’s interesting to see Korea from your perspective. Also appreciate how respectful and unobtrusive you are even when you’re not super knowledgeable about the culture, your instincts and actions are respectful.
You should go Jamsil and Lotte world and also Teheran road
Across the street of the Maserati store in Itaewon is where Samsung current CEO and his family live. Other K conglomorate owner families live there a lot. Wealthy town.
Chil-seoung cider - is SPRITE… we don’t have hard cider in Korea. Chil Seoung - means 7 stars… I am glad you enjoyed Seoul, Busan etc etc in Korea. Itaewon is also very close to the US 8th regiment (Army base)
Wow that looks great
The bowl with green onion is called "pa muchim" and is not a side dish. it's to eat with the lettuce wrap and your meat. Thanks for the video.
You are doing better than me, exploring new city. You find right places to eat and all. The dessert drink was cinamon ginger tea. Its very popular refreshmt.
Love the commentary Zane! You could start a podcast one day!
You need a Korean friend to take you to a delicious restaurant and teach you how to enjoy the food more. LOL Anyway I love your vlogging
Itaewon looks like a really cool place to check out. I've only been to Incheon twice and once to Seoul. Would love to check out more of the city! Love it when I hear K-pop music in the background too!!!! 💜💜💜
The barbecue meal (& grill) looks amazing 😮❤🎉
Also you missed Hyebangcheon next to itaewon. Which is even a little more trendy for restos and pubs. Foreginers choose to live their over itaewon.
Korean BBQ looks delicious😊😊 love your videos❤❤
Hannam, where you found maserati store is one of the most affluent residence here in Korea. Much more than Gangnam (many celebs live there)
Love ur videos btw 😍
Itaewon means something like “foreign village “. It’s the part of the city where foreigners would gather. Like the Russians, U.S. military….
near iteawon . there are warmemoria. and national museum.!!
Highly recommend; DMZ tour
You should see korean mother-of-pearl furniture, jagyenong (자개농).
Passion 5 ya'all! He didn't go in. He should have. It's one of the best bake shops in all of S Korea. Definitely go here! It's a must.
I wish someone could tell him how to eat Korean barbecue. Or he could have known if he looked around at how people around him ate.
Based on what you're saying in the video, it seems like it's plum tea. Plum tea is a traditional Korean beverage. Plum tea, served cold, is particularly popular during hot summers and can help stimulate appetite and cool the body.
Lovely!
That is the place where more than 100 holloween party goers died by crowd crush last year. After that, people dont go there anymore so many shops went our of business. Check out crowd crush in Itaewon.
You need to go to an EDM club in Itaewon. It usually opens at midnight till sunrise. That’s when Itaewon comes to life.
15:15 its extracted plum juice
By the way, I was an expat there and I did not live in itaewon. I don’t know anyone who did. Just thinking about it, I think it would be a very loud place to live and a lot of drunk people around, but I can’t say from experience.
For ur context - there was a pretty serious crowd crush here
All the side dishes in any Korean restaurant .. is to have with stew, rice, bbq … collectively called Ban Chan…. Not to finish all at first - ie not a starter!
15:00 Looks like sujeonggwa, which is a very traditional ginger + cinnamon + sugar drink that I'm personally not a fan of lol. Due to the ginger and cinnamon, it has a cloying, medicinal taste, which makes sense for privileged people in the Joseon Dynasty to drink as a status symbol. In modern Korean cuisine though, I think ginger and cinnamon are not harmonious in terms of taste.
nahhh I think it's plum tea
any dessert tea you get in Korea would be either cinnamon or plum
but his reaction seems much more close to plum than cinnamon 😂
The best in Korea to go to is none other than Lotte World and Adventure
in Jamsil. Guarantee!!
On the halloween day of 2022, there was a stampede accident at the narrow road between the buildings seen 0:30 and over 150 people were dead. It was a national tragedy and many koreans still have trauma about that accident. Please pray for the victims.
@shrachel90 The first year anniversary of the death of a loved one, or tragedy, tends to be the hardest one.
Zane, you've earned a new subscriber! I love your way of traveling, and that you upload your videos without much editing - you keep it real. Do you have any plans to visit the more traditional areas of Seoul (i.e., the palaces, hanok village, insadong etc), as well as venturing out of Seoul? Korea's got a ton of really nice places to offer, and the bullet trains are rather inexpensive. I'd recommend Paju Book City and Suwon Fortress which are still part of the greater Seoul metro area but offer a more quiet, serene experience... There are also mountain trails all over the country.
@9:40 the amount of times I went to 김실력 (the sign that looks handwritten) and walked 50ft down to that brown building to go to Prost was unhealthy 😂.
Zane, actually Hannam (where the Maserati dealer is) which is next to Itae-won is where the old money live.
That's where all the power and influence of Korea sleeps at night.
Gangnam is where people on their payroll or their doctors live.
❤❤❤
Why didn’t you tip the makgeolli? You need to stir in the stuff from the bottom!
I am sad that there are some parts you are missing from your trip to Korea 😅 (for example, Myeongdong is mainly focused for Japanese tourists, and you should eat bindaetteok at Gwangjang Market with onion sauce, and I recommend Kyochon or bbq for Korean chicken. Also, I recommend Seongsu-dong That's where Koreans go these days also You should eat 'Hanwoo beef') But I hope you enjoyed Korea well. I hope you have a good trip wherever you go from now go!😊
You can pronunciate lotte as loh-teh.
Iteawon halloween
itaewon is expensive and much rougher… lol. Sometimes for foreigners it is a necessary evil to have to go there from around the surrounding Seoul area because its the only place close by to get things they need such as clothing sizes, hair products, specific ingredients or types of food that aren’t normally sold in Korea. However, you will pay for the convenience.
Hello, I hope you have good memories in Korea.
👍
I would not choose Itaewon to live. I definitely would choose a place where it is more rural, to experience Korea, and people in a more traditional way. Thanks for your videos I really appreciate your candor and courage!👍🏽👋
Cool, we were sitting about same place back in 2016. Next to that happened that awful thingy where ppl died.
Seoul is freezing in Winter from Nov - Feb
Every place you visited had an amazing nightlife, but it's a shame you went when there were hardly any people around. If you go during peak time, you are sure you'll discover something even more spectacular. Korea is really safe, so I recommend going after 9pm.
The youtube tracks only few asians music for copyright.
Congrats for the vídeos bwt. Im new here but I have seem a lot of yours vídeos. Tks.
I am from Seoul and watch this video and see this guy is heading right towns but passing right spots of the towns and picking wrong foods in each town. Better research more.
It's so frustrating right? But it's not his fault since it's his first time..wish someone could have shown him!
They generally don’t grill it for you. You are supposed to do it yourself.
Enjoy Korea a little deeper and you're hovering around too much outside. Come on!
subbed. interesting take on your travels. its pronounced LOW-TAY fyi.
I notice Filipina talking 8:53
I was wondering about that. I speak neither Korean nor Tagalog, but it definitely didn't sound like she was speaking Korean.
Zane you just missed a good spot. Passion 5 is full of pastries and desserts. It's to die for
I’m just curious, did you purposely leave the Hamilton Hotel area out on purpose or were you unaware of what happened there? I saw it in the distance and then the next shot was passed it. No disrespect intended.
👍👍❤❤👍👍
Lol bro I can’t believe it’s your bc it’s time trying kbbq. Unless your referring to authentic kbbq
You look like MacCallister for Liverpool
expat from socal, south korea is getting cold already...
One of many things you realize experiencing different cultures out of your own, especially if from America is that the food we have been eating here without a shadow of doubt is rather garbage compared to Korean food. I have come to realize hard how limited variety of food we have been consuming. I've been eating meat, flour based bakes, potatoes and eggs.. People are really missing out on Korean food. Korean people are very very serious when it comes to food. They have by far the most knowledge on food than anyone else. From land meat to seafood to root vegetables to fermenting with spices, Korean food is one of the best food in the world. Lastly, I want you to know not to be deceived by the look and smell. You are what you eat, and Koreans have their food on top over most.
Itaewon is a must go but at night time for its amazing nightlife. It is dead during the day.
Hey, which gopro is that ?
Go pro hero 11
@@kushal809 I have to test one of those. my hero 10 black does not look this clean at in 4k
이태원에서 bbq를....^^;;;
You need to wrap your food in the lettuce and then eat!
korean meat is top expensive in the world!!! as fruit. bread too.
love your vlogs ❤
