The speech was simple as it gets, but how Bean delivers it was key.

I always got the role of presenting and speech by my classmates because I never need to prepare and always nailed it..
Perhaps it’s my only talent because they never let me help with the project :(
"It's not just a painting, It's a picture of a mad old cow who he thought the world of, and that's marvelous."
-Dr. Bean, apparently.
Well that’s what he thinks
Yes, we saw it.
Apparently 😂
@@gftyhify If this was in real life I don't think David would have showed up. He would have been under a ton of stress and fear of getting locked up for life!
One thing I didn't realize till years ago, is that there really IS a painting Whistler's Mother.
I love the whole process of his speech. From shaking profusely, he speaks the obvious situation about his false title and about the painting.
Then the slowly reflects on his experience with his host family. That heartwarming truth is what made his speech great.
No-one doubted his authenticity. Scholars are known for being eccentric, after all.
I also love the process of a man clearly not accustomed to public speech struggling to form coherent thoughts as he tries to get a few words out. It's very much in his character: every word sounds like a struggle.

The best part is him saying "and i´m getting quite near the end now", as if he had been talking for 30 minutes already. Comedy at it´s best.
Yes 😂😂
"Secondlyyy..."
He litarelly mention that it's the end of Analysis not speech
I once gave a bullshit presentation exactly like this in college.
The professor said, "Couldn't have said it better myself."
I once was examined in "how to examine students, so that you evaluate them on their merits." I literally told the examinators how to make sure the students weren't bullshitting, while I was bullshitting most of the exam.
They didn't listen carefully enough, so I ended with top grade.
Same but with me he said afterwards "That was clear language"
off the cuff speeches are the best. they are authentic than well-prepared ones - which is what people appreciate.
Granted it was a joke but he really did do pretty good with it.
Because of this movie, whenever I had an assignment in english, every last line in that assignment would be "well that´s what I think at least." No matter what the assigment was. I don´t think anyone ever understood why, but if they had seen this movie they would. It´s because that´s the last line of Bean´s speech.
I love how the general is totally on board with Bean's PoV on it.
Because like the general said himself, he doesn't know nor care at all about art, he is a man of principles, he bought that painting cause it "belonged in/to America" and instead of a bunch of artsy fartsy art-logic/knowledge, he appreciates the emotional principle of the importance of family way more
Everyone that enjoys art in that room loved the family speech.
Never thought of it that way. Thank you for your input.
Lies again? Dallas Bull S**t
Exactly.
Well explained.
Also shows how simpld but well the General was written, despite only appearing a very small amount in the movie
Not only that, but he seems like a man of honor, one who served for his country and his family, and places tremendous value on both, so Mr. Bean's speech resonated very well with him.
Fun fact - Burt Reynolds character was originally going to be played by an extra/unknown actor, but Burt Reynolds asked for the role as he was a big fan of Mr Bean
1936 - 2018.

I can't stress enough how masterful that dialogue was. The use of words that at first looks like he knew nothing to say about the matter but became profoundly deep and down-to-earth at the same time.
I love how they built on this for his film at the end of Mr Bean's Holiday...
That’s not a dialogue
@@xdranzer0004 Whatever man. Don't smart him
I love how Bean's speech might sounds silly when you hear it as a kid, but when you grow up, it is surprisingly wholesome and came from his heart, his experience with David's family and what each sides gave each others. It is an excellent climax of the movie.
My dad said it was his favourite part, now that I'm older I get why.

Props to Peter Macnicol's acting. The look on his face when he sees the painting is one of sheer joy and relief.
6:52 I cant hold my tears. It such a good line by Mr Bean.😢😢
Maybe it's not just me but everyone else who over the years will realise the "scientific analysis" of Dr. Bean on the painting is apt and spot-on true. It's not just a painting, it's a truckload of emotions that Whistler put on the canvas while portraying his mother, so the main point is no matter how they are, what they do .. they are and will always be your family, deal with it. And families are important.
Speech from 5:23 - 7:29 really shows that Mr Bean isn't a fool

He really deserves a PhD from that speech :D
@ahmad yusuf Ismail At least he was mistaken for a medical doctor saving the life of that police officer and saving David Langley's daughter.
Rowan Atkinson's acting was very brilliant🔥💯
I remember watching this back as a kid in the 90's and actually being disappointed a bit in that the focus wasn't just Bean and an two hour episode of his hilarious antics. Watching this now I appreciate the character of David Langley and the bit of character development it offers Bean. Great movie.
10:25 "If you do nothing nothing can go wrong" Once upon a time I took that quote so seriously that I confined myself into a room for many many years thinking that if I do nothing nothing will go wrong but no thats not true when your days are bad then troubles will follow you even if you lock yourself behind many doors.
This he meant for bean purely cos watever he touched went wrong. That’s wat he meant. Not generally in life!!!
I’ve had this speech memorized ever since I was a kid, and if I want to get a laugh out of my family, I’ll recite this speech. The part about the cactus is usually when they lose it! 😂😂
We never saw him speak but when he did, he spoke 'Marvelously'. I love the character arc of Mr. Bean in this entire movie starting as a fake Dr. to justify being a real one and this speech summed it all up perfectly. Well, that's what I think anyway.
Dom Toretto would be proud
Anyone else who gets shivers when he gives his thumbs ups? :D That music and the happy faces
I do everytime I watch that moment, especially when David's face lights up as he sees Whistler's Mother "restored"😃
He said his best friend is david langly. Its so sad that bean does not have any friends so he considers him his best friend while David does'nt.
Doesn't

To be fair David says he likes Bean, although they’re definitely not best friends
This reminds me...where the hell was Teddy throughout this entire fiasco? Bean doesn't even go to the amusement park without him, much less to another country.

Hello, I'm Dr. Bean. Apparently. And my job is to sit and look at paintings. So, what have I learned that I can say about this painting? Well, firstly, it's really quite big, which is excellent. because If it were really small, you know, microscopic, then hardly anyone would be able to see it. Which would be a tremendous shame. Secondly, and I'm getting quite near the end of this... analysis... of this painting, secondly, why was it worth this man here spending fifty million of your American dollars on this portrait? And the answer to that is, well this painting is with such a lot of money because... it's a picture of Whistler's mother. And as I've learned by staying with my best friend David Langley and his family, families are very important and Even though Mr. Whistler was prefectly aware that his mother was a hideous old bat who looked like she'd had a cactus lodged up her backside, he stuck with her, and even took the time to paint this amazing picture of her. It's not just a painting. It's a picture of a mad old cow who he thought the world of. And that's marvellous... Well that's what I think.
the fact he smiles to show happiness even with double chins , he lets his imperfection be a part of his smile , dude he never tries to impress i cant respect n love this man enough
When Bean says ''Staying with my best friend'' i suddenly feel emotion and tears.
😊👍🏻
Great job!
@@parishmitaparashar45 double chin ain't imperfection , there is no such thing as perfect ..... your comment might be pleasing to some but to others who have double chin it's gonna be heart wrecking ....
David was probably the only real friend Bean ever had
He made some more friends in the second movie (Stepan and Sabine).
I love how when he says his job is to sit and look at paintings, he gets an impressed round of applause. And he gives a quick bemused look, like they’re mental for thinking it’s a big deal.
Funny enough, his job DID help to replace the painting with a poster.
He would just be looking at each stroke, curve, medium, and mark while the snooty bums on high take it for granted, but this is Bean here.
He caught on what makes a painting a painting in the most concrete way and to cap it off, he proved he was introspective on paintings despite just sitting there and looking at paintings.
It also helped to destroy a 50 million US Dollar painting and damn near ruining the career of his new best friend, but C'est La Vi, as the French say.
While everyone struggles to say ,,big” things during a speech,Mr.Bean just standing there and say what he is truly think.
We all salute you Mr.Bean.
Weirdly enough, it kinda reminds me of Charlie Chaplin’s speech at the end of The Great Dictator, cause they’re both silent comedians 😂
If you're going to deliver just one speech, may as well make it your character's opus :)
Rowan Atkinson doesn't just do silent comedy, he does some stand up comedy as well, like his welcome to hell bit and regular acting, like blackadder, his start was on a sketch show. But yes mr bean is a (mostly) silent character if that's what you meant.
the guy is like teflon---no bad sticks to him and who could argue with such simple heartfelt expressions?

There was an unfilmed post-credits scene. A few years after the events of the film an earthquake strikes Los Angeles. At the Grierson Gallery everyone is thrown to the floor, the glass casing around Whistler's Mother shatters and breaks and the bottom section of the pictures' frame breaks off. Once the earthquake subsides, Elmer runs up to Whistler's Mother to assess the damage and he notices the now revealed words at the bottom of the picture: "THE GRIERSON GALLERY, HOME OF WHISTLER'S MOTHER." The scene ends with Elmer screaming in horror.
