Mexican here, we do offerings and celebrate our ancestors too for Dia De Muertos too! If we do speeches, they Have to be to our elders in our Native tongue, and we serve them food. Plus we got Lotería, basically our Mexican family gambling bingo lol Happy Lunar New Year! 👌👍

This is absolutely a beautiful show. I agree with the "fam" here that your sharing of the Vietnamese culture is wonderful. This makes real the saying that we are more alike than different. I love the idea of "understanding" various cultures, practices, and beliefs instead of "tolerating" them. Your show speaks volumes to helping to understand better Asian cultures and hearing you differentiate Chinese and Vietnamese with respect to the Lunar New Year was eye-opening to me, thank you! And, I picked up on you and your brother's inability to speak "fluently" your native tongue. Losing native languages happens in all groups of people when they migrate to other lands and generations later, many have no recollection of their native tongue. Be very intentional about conversing in your native tongue. Many organizations are providing financial support to researchers and practitioners to design ways and provide resources to "teach-back" languages or to document languages that are in danger of being lost. One way of losing languages is by not being intentional about maintaining them. Continued success!
My grandparents are all mixed French , kiwi, Chinese,Hawaiian, Italian, Irish and Portuguese. But every Chinese New Year or any celebration actually my Chinese grandmother always gifts us with little purses with money for good luck. She's in Melbourne right now spending the new year with her sisters. I always love how asian she is, and I've always been told how asian I am cs firstly I was the only one in my family born looking asian with gold red hair and green eyes. Although I was always teased for my asian qualities and habits I always loved them and it's so great to see how the world is always evolving so trust your spirit and love yourself. My kids are half Vietnamese, half Canadian. We celebrate Lunar New Year 🧧 and all the traditional Canadian(Catholic) holidays. We love all the traditions...and all the fun we have celebrating together 🎊
Such a beautiful tradition! Growing up my family was not very religious, we just got together at my mother’s house ate and drank. Now we still do that, but also I take my kids to the lunar new year parade in NYC..... and after we eat dumplings.
I'm half Vietnamese and my dad did not raise me as much within the culture. I have a lot of fomo, but am so glad you exist for me to learn more about his people.
Jeannie, I just had a baby girl 9 months ago after a very hard\healing time in my marriage. I did a lot of healing and after almost 9 years of marriage I feel like I have a new marriage because I have done so much WORK on cleaning up my stressful and painful beliefs I had about my family and myself. I still have a lot of work to do but I feel so free and now and am so thankful to be with my family, husband and daughter. It is amazing how life can renew itself. I am just so happy for you and your beautiful family and all the hard work you seem to be doing to have healthy relationships with your family and yourself. Big hug and kiss to you and your momma.

PuertoRican right here, I know you have your girl Adrianne tells you all about how we celebrate at least here in USA. But our New Year celebration in the Island have no comparisons of here in US. Even though we all have in our household kind of the same menu. We love to taste others people sazon, of making things. Back then as I child. I loved going to my grandparents to the campo. Have the smell of cooking the lechon a la barita so early in the AM. Have all my aunts bring to the table their favorite dish, salads,desserts,drinks and more. My uncles and grandpa, get their beers,alcohol watch the lechon. Once food is ready, we all dressed up and sing our aguinaldos navideños, eat and drink all night....morning long LOL. It kind of make me sad, that many don't follow our traditional style no more. But some still do at the Island. My Christmas as a child in my country was a bless and i have so much long life memories.
