I always enjoyed these two in both of these films, in both 'The Odd Couple' movies (the original & the 30-year later sequel) & in 'Out to Sea' personally.. Loved Matthau as Mr. Wilson in 'Dennis the Menace' growing up too. He's hysterical in it..❤
"My Fellow Americans" starring Jack Lemmon and James Garner. Also.. "Gone Fishin'" starring Joe Pesci and Danny Glover Both films are comedy gold icons, and are a must see
Um you do realize we have these things called seasons, Mads? :D LOL - that's why it's spring/summer this time 'round w/the boys. Both films are such fun & that Jack & Walter were IRL BFFs solidified their stardoms. You so need to see THE FORTUNE COOKIE (their first pairing up - directed by Billy Wilder & an Oscar win for Walter) & their most iconic, THE ODD COUPLE. Tomorrow is actually Burgess Meredith's birthday (1907) - sadly he was in the throes of dementia during filming but the entire production was very hands on and supportive; it would be his final role as well. Thankfully we still have Ann-Margret & Sophia Loren with us :D Great reaction Mads as usual :D xoxo
“Did they move?” Yeah, Minnesota and other northern states have these things called seasons, where it can be bitterly cold and snowy in the winter, but warm and green in the summer. 😉
In case anyone is wondering... Walter Matthau's truck is a 1974 International Travel-all. Mfd by International Harvester from 1953-1975. Collector's item!
Burgess Meredith, legendary actor. Played Mickey the Trainer in the Rocky movies and starred in four episodes of one of the greatest TV series ever 'The Twilight Zone.'
...only since Global Warming. When I was a kid we only had 3-4 weeks of summer some years! I remember the cover of Time magazine was warning everyone about the coming Ice Age!
I luv the bloopers reel! Burgess Meredith is the funniest character! (RIP) The movie "Out to Sea" would be another great comedy to watch with both actors! At18:59 What you do if you got this compliment? Haha lol Thanks for sharing Madison!❤️💛
The Odd Couple reunited with one of the sexiest stars of the screen of all time, Sophia Loren. What is there not to like about that? Awesome selection for Thanksgiving.🦃
These 2 movies were followed by a few other movies w/ the same type of comedies w/ at least one of the 2 leading actors here (such as Out To Sea, the Odd Couple II (also w/ the original), & My Fellow Americans (Jack + James Garner)).
Watch Matthau in ‘Hopscotch’, he plays a retired intelligence agent who decides to write his memoirs. Multinational mirth and mayhem. Very funny. And the settings in Europe are gorgeous.
Now you’ve got to see a “younger”Walter Matthau in : “CHARADE “ With beautiful Audrey Hepburn, and charming Cary Grant !! Very clever movie, twists and turns!!!
There's an excellent Army training film that Burgess Meredith made while he was in the service during WW2. It's called "A Welcome to Britain" and taught the culture and customs of England to American soldiers stationed there during the war. He speaks directly to camera like you are an Army buddy of his. It's both an entertaining and fascinating look into BOTH cultures and what daily life was like then. It's on TH-cam courtesy the National Archives.
And as for beautiful iconic movie stars marrying the Grumpy Old Men: While Lemmon and Matthau may have been pretend-married to Ann-Margret and Sophia Loren - two of the biggest sex symbols of the 1950s and 60s - in real life Meredith was married to 1940s screen beauty Paulette Goddard. For 5 years, anyway.
Thank you for another wonderful reaction ... love it! If you have any interest in seeing a Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau pairing in their younger years, I highly recommend the comedy "The Odd Couple" from 1968.
This IS Minnesota - in the SUMMER. It lasts 3 or 4 weeks some years. No self-respecting Minnesota fisherman wastes his time with stanky ol' catfish. They go for Pike, Walleye, Musky, Trout, Salmon, Big Mouth, Small Mouth (from Wallies to Smallies)... If you liked this so much, and you're reacting to classic cinema, you should react to THE ODD COUPLE (1968), written by Neil Simon and stars Lemmon and Matthau.
Always love your reactions. If it gets too noisy down there, I suggest Alberta, Canada. Young cowboys with free heath care...lol. I am 64 and live in Ontario.
I seen a recipe, where they was using leftover bacon! I have never heard of such a thing! So every time I go to the grocery store now! I look for leftover bacon! I have not had any luck. I have even asked, they look at me like I'm crazy! Next time I go I'm going to show him the damn recipe!
I always thought it was odd that it being Minnesota they weren't after bass, walleye, northern or musky. Btw.... catfish don't breach the water like that since they're bottom dwellers, correct?
@@bossfan49 Those are definitely the species we're more known for, but Wabasha is on the Mississippi River, so you will find catfish there. Probably not a flathead, like is in the movie, but those are in certain rivers in Minnesota. No, I've never seen a catfish jump like that, but you never know. One of my relatives had a 6 foot long sturgeon jump into his boat on the Mississippi.
@@tylerpacker6047 Ok..Wabasha. I see on the map, there's an inlet and 2 small lakes there. I'm in Chicago, but we have a lake house in SW Michigan. We have flathead and bullhead in our smaller lakes too, but I don't really know anyone that fishes FOR them. Usually it's just something you end up with.😀 No sturgeon though!!
@10:00 Catfish are bottom dwellers. Almost positive they don't breach like other fish. Also, being in Minnesota, it's odd that they're after a catfish instead of a bass, walleye, northern, musky etc..
I know that you like old movies. Did you ever watch Driving Miss Daisy ? I don't think so. It's got Morgan Freeman and Dan Ackroyd. It's from 1989. It has a sort of lifestile to it.
I always thought Walter Matthau character got the better part of the deal in the sequel. I mean Ann Margaret is still a beauty but Sophia Loren cremated her.
Hi Madison. Nice, fun reaction. I don't know if you know this or not but every time you slap your hand on your lap your camera shakes and the image wiggles....not a big deal but with repeated slaps it can get a little disorienting. Just thought perhaps you'd want to know in case you want to modify your setup. Keep up the good work ;)
These two movies provide the perfect "escapism" from what society has become.
A breath of fresh air.

Dead fish or british dog farts?
Now you need to see how this pairing began: The Odd Couple is a must see!
YES!

The Fortune Cookie 1966 I think was their first pairing.
R.I.P. Burgess Meredith, Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau.
This was Burgess Meredith's last role. 🥺😄
This was Burgess Meredith's last film.
The Odd Couple would round out this pairing.
Ya they did.
Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon…two greats!
"My Fellow Americans" starring Jack Lemmon and James Garner.
Also..
"Gone Fishin'" starring Joe Pesci and Danny Glover

Kevin Pollak actually gave Burgess Meredith his lines to say

“Sophia Loren”she’s been considered as one of the most beautiful women in the world!!
Her rival at the time for beauty and acting was
Gina Lollobrigida.
Love Those “Bloopers”!!!
Hey, hey, hey, we get 3 months of summer here in Minnesota!
3?! You must live down by the cities. 😁
Here in Canada we have about 3 and a half weeks
In Britain we only have 2 seasons,
JULY AND WINTER !
...only since Global Warming. When I was a kid we only had 3-4 weeks of summer some years! I remember the cover of Time magazine was warning everyone about the coming Ice Age!
Another in this genre is "Tough Guys (1986)" with Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster.
Yes. They are a great team. They made several other movies together. And they are all at the same level of fun.
I luv the bloopers reel! Burgess Meredith is the funniest character! (RIP) The movie "Out to Sea" would be another great comedy to watch with both actors! At18:59 What you do if you got this compliment? Haha lol Thanks for sharing Madison!❤️💛
Such a sweet movie! Thanks for sharing it, Madison. 🙂
Next year, you can do another with this duo. The title is Out to Sea, where they decide to work on a cruise ship.
The Odd Couple reunited with one of the sexiest stars of the screen of all time, Sophia Loren. What is there not to like about that? Awesome selection for Thanksgiving.🦃

A great Western starring Jack Lemmon is "Cowboy" and one of my favorite Walter Mathau movies is "Hopscotch". I recommend them both!
Watch them in the Odd Couple, great movie
Watch Matthau in ‘Hopscotch’, he plays a retired intelligence agent who decides to write his memoirs. Multinational mirth and mayhem. Very funny. And the settings in Europe are gorgeous.
Yah, it's Saturday morning in Kiwi land, MKT. Triple features, J W Ch4, Dunkirk and these grumpy old timers. Whoop whoop, let's go...
Happy Thanksgiving! Thanks so much for doing this one! Fun movie.
Lemmon, Matthau, and Loren are all Oscar winners.
Now you’ve got to see a “younger”Walter Matthau in :

They don't make them like this anymore
