Man, I miss those days!! Heading upstairs to the toy department and seeing G.I. Joe, Star Wars, Transformers and of course the Sears RC line-up. Perfect video for the upcoming holidays!
I used to hopelessly drool over the fancy RC cars in the Sears Wish Book each year, lol. I knew I'd never get one, but it didn't hurt to look, haha. And never count out old NiCd packs! I still have a Sanyo SCRC 1700 mAh NiCd pack from 1996 that still works fine!
This was my 1st RC Car!! I loved it as a child and it was rock solid reliable. Not sure where it eneded up but I just scored a super nice one off Ebay a couple weeks ago and as a bonus it came with a Royal Ripper!!! I have a ton of vintage RC stuff but not on your level. Im trying to collect all of the old 80s monster trucks. Have most of them including a Varicom Big Grizzly and all 5 of the Kyosho monster Trucks. I absolutely love your channel. Thanks!!! Luke Silkey
Gosh, I loved RC back in the day. 47yrs old now, but still have my mint circa 1989ish Team Associated RC10. I've run it a couple times in recent years and it's still so much fun. I suppose that the new tech, better battery, ready to race stuff has buried the old school RCs; however, the experience of carefully building and tweaking the old school kits was such a fun and educational part of my younger years. Maybe there's still a market for it.
Absolutely amazing time the 80’s was for rc. Honestly if old rc was boring I’d not have a rc channel. Old or new rc is all about fun. There’s rc10 cc you should check out. Thanks 😊
I remembered going to toys r us and buying the nikko version. 200 bucks back then crazy haha. I still have a couple of them in boxes. And ofcourse 1 converted to hobby grade stuff lol. Goodtimes.
I think this is the first time I’ve seen one of these, don’t think we have sears in the UK, we did have NIKKO though, my first rc was a used NIKKO black fox from around the same time as this, this looks like a great rc, would have been a happy Christmas morning to find one of these under the tree !!
Got one of these for Christmas and thought it was uncontrollably fast 😂😂😂😂 pulled my Christmas tree over onyself in the living room my mither was pissed at me. Needless to say j broke it and haven't had another rc car until a year ago.... Man I miss those days
I had the same RC car as a kid. Oh man the memories! I may have to scoop one on ebay myself for the nostalgia. How much did they retail for back in the day? One of the best gifts from my parents. Thanks for posting!
I had the Lobo 2, brings back memories. Those batteries didnt last long and took many hours to charge lol. Back then it was Radio Shack VS Sears for RC cars toys. I did had the TANDY/RADIO SHACK 4×4 OFF-ROADER
I started with one also, my buddy got one as well and ran the heck out of them. Krazy glue and safety wire repaired our front arms when we broke them, lol
This was my first R/C car and these were expensive. My mom ordered it from the famous Sears 1987 Wishbook. It was $99.99 + $19.99 for a 7.2v NiCad, I got the 1 hour push button charger for $24.99 and a black and neon green Lobo carrying case for another $14.99. Everything was approx. $160 which is equivalent to $450 in today's dollars! $450!!
My first battery pack powered rc car. Mine is a Nikko Rhino, had a 540 in it, friend had the Thunderbolt (same car) with a 380 both came from radio shack .
I had this exact car but under the Radio Shack Brand. It was black and gold. Took a beating. Broke alot of control arms. Thanfully they supplied parts pretty quickly.
WOW! Super cool find and that was very nice that one of the viewers offered it to you first! I have looked at these on eBay and yes, they go for silly money! I have not seen a new one listed on there before so you did get lucky! It is super cool to see one in such great shape!
I have the Nikko version the Thunderbolt, thats a little warmed over and a fun runner. These buggies shared some similarities and parts with Traxxas The Cat. They share some similarities
I consider these, the f10’s and the golden arrows hobby grade. They were 1/10, they were digital proportional, and they could be raced with the hornets, cats, and hoppers at the track.
I think the only reason they were considered toy grade is that the had solid state or combined receiver/ESC. Heck now that’s probably even more techie than a mechanical speed control🤣
@jonthomas8487 I agree. The only difference between these and Tamiya solid rear axle RC's is the electronics. And those Tamiya's are regarded as hobby grade. I still reckon these chassis are superior with their trailing arm front suspension instead of the design Tamiya uses.
Have you heard of the Monogram Mad Wolf? That was my "Hobby Level" 1st RC... Perhaps if you don't have one of those Vintage Brand RC's , it may be one to consider for the collection... 🤔🤔🤔
Hey Luke, first comment here. Love your channel, I'm an avid vintage rc'er myself. That is an awesome find, thanks for sharing it, and all the radio control drives down memory lane!
Hi, I was wondering if you might be able to help me out? I have two vintage RC Buggys from the 80’s, both NIB (not ”almost new” but actually NIB with unused decalsheets). Both boxes are in very good shape, not perfect but no tears or major damage. The first one is a Panda Monium (this one by Thunder Tiger according to the box and the instructions), yellow bodyshell and complete with decalsheet (in sealed original plasticitet bag), transmitter, charger, and original battery. Tires are still soft. The other one is an Academy Road Runner I. This one was sold assembled with motor and MSC but without radiogear. It is complete with decalsheet (in original sealed plastic bag) and original sealed bag with parts and screws for gear installation (servosaver and so on). Tires are still soft. I’ve had them for a while, but I’m not really a collector and personally I don’t think I can find it in my heart to actually run them. So I’m looking to sell them (or trade perhaps), problem is I have no clue how to put a value on them. I understand that these weren’t high end buggys then, and that their value now isn’t on par with with some of the more well known and sought after vintage buggys which can run up to and above 1000£ even in used condition, but there must be some value in them? Can you give me a ballpark figure for these two buggys? Regards! Anders Olsson
So I already restored the panda pandamonium on this channel and I talk about it along with a run portion. You could try eBay, maybe Tamiyaclub.com members. Remember prices are subjective and dependent on the interests. Check out the video and enjoy Happy Holidays.
@@LukesVintageRC Thanks, I know prices are subjective, which is why I was asking. I do follow your channel and have seen the videos! Keep up the good work!
It’s not easy to find a vintage rc in mint condition and still in the box I would love to get a brand new one and make some mods so it could keep up with today’s rc’s that go faster and run longer
no offense taken your opinion is fine. The only problem is the architecture of these buggies are completely different. Idea maybe but there’s only a year apart 84vs85. Takes time for a company to design develop and yet alone distribute especially in the early 80’s. Many companies did have clones of GH ex: world engines Rockbuster, Academy Lazer, Mugen Manx and others but nikko f10 is special. Kinda legendary.
I think you mean a one handed clicker the other hand controls the camera. With a steering servo power of a 1985 Nikko product you’ll be mad at yourself too. 😂 Thanks.
Man, I miss those days!! Heading upstairs to the toy department and seeing G.I. Joe, Star Wars, Transformers and of course the Sears RC line-up. Perfect video for the upcoming holidays!
Definitely simpler times. Happy Holidays friend.
Same exact memories, great times for sure

Truly appreciate you. Rc passion is awesome. Thanks for sharing. 😊
15 mph was blistering fast back in the day. This one and my fast traxx were my favorite as a kid
Wasn’t too shabby for a department store rc in the 80’s. Thanks 😊

So cool to know there’s an rc that brings back the fun memories. Thank you 😊
Very cool rig. I remember seeing these in the stores and catalogs back in the day. Nothing like getting a true time capsule.
I remember seeing these in Sears while my dad was getting tires for his work van. Thanks Keith
Oh man! Time capsule! Growing up I had the Lobo 2 and the Lobo 4wd. Awesome toys!
Totally agree with that. Thanks tons 👍
I remember seeing the F10 based chassis cars around quite a bit. I had a World Engines Rockbuster as my first RC in 1986 but I remember these
Fun buggies for sure. You might like my video of Rock Buster too. Thanks 😊
Box art turned out amazing on this one 👍. Perfect color for it.
Thanks for watching
My neighbor had a blue and red Lobo II and we would go to our local park to drive them, back in the mid 80's
Definitely can relate with this. Thank you 😊

Super awsome buggy, its great to find mint example that takes you right back to the good old days 😎
I couldn’t have said it better. Thanks bud
This was my first rc car. Still have it to this day and I can't believe it still runs.
Vintage rc rules
Unreal, man - what a rare and cool acquisition :)
Got one of these for Christmas and thought it was uncontrollably fast 😂😂😂😂 pulled my Christmas tree over onyself in the living room my mither was pissed at me. Needless to say j broke it and haven't had another rc car until a year ago.... Man I miss those days

Lucky you. Thanks 😊

The battery mah of 1200 or if lucky 1400 was a 5-8min on a good day, thank you.😊
I still have that same one. My grandfather had bought it but I lost the remote and it hasn't been driven in about 30 years.
Thanks for sharing and watching. More videos available and arriving.
I started with one also, my buddy got one as well and ran the heck out of them. Krazy glue and safety wire repaired our front arms when we broke them, lol

now that's sweet! :) thanks for sharing!
Absolutely my pleasure. Thanks
Another one on my bucket list
I had this exact car as a kid!
Amazing rc car to get as a kid.🙏
Love these buggies. Such a classic. And these things are built really well
My feelings exactly. Thank you
Beautiful vintage RC! Looks so great driving around. So 80's! Love it!
It really was a treat. Thank you 😊
Never heard of it but always love your resto's 👍🏻
Thank you 🙏
ooooh i remember that desert design on the box as a kid.
Very cool, thanks ☺️

i wanted the Tyco that year as my friends got them... and got this. it was pretty rugged. snapped the a arm off my buddies Tamiya Fox with it! lol
Great memories, thanks 😊

That’s the Golden Arrow I spoke about and showed in video. Thanks
Yes! Thank you. I forgot that name.
Neat one.....I had a yellow Sears (Nikko) Mosquito....looked almost just like the later Lobo II .....was a lot of fun
Great video!
Casual observer but it seems the only thing separating these vintage RCs is their suspension system.
Thanks tons
So much memories with this.
So true

They share some similarities
Absolutely agree did a restore video of that can be found on my channel.
There was also the lobo 2 and 3 which were also Nikko but they were 4wd.
I’d love to see a video of your collection Luke. I know you’ve got some really cool RC’s.
I’ll probably do that in future just a time thing really. Addam’s Playground I believe has more than me now. 😆
Great video buddy. I used to circle these in the Sears wishbook every year. Never got one
I was doing that too.👍
I consider these, the f10’s and the golden arrows hobby grade. They were 1/10, they were digital proportional, and they could be raced with the hornets, cats, and hoppers at the track.
So many people say not Hobby grade but I can definitely see your point.

Howdy, so I do have that buggy it has a unique drive train. Coming up soon on the channel. Thanks for sharing
This was the best toy grade rc it was so close to hobby grade
Thank you 😊
This was my dads first car, it came with a 540. I bought a nikko version last year and it came with a 380.
If they were to rerelease this buggy. Thanks 😊
My first rc car!!!❤
Wow , what a wicked car mate
Thank you 😊
Yeah in Italy that is a nikko
I had the red one when I was a kid.
Timeless rc. Thanks
Hey Luke, first comment here. Love your channel, I'm an avid vintage rc'er myself. That is an awesome find, thanks for sharing it, and all the radio control drives down memory lane!

cool looking buggy and great run

I had the Lobo II, it was fun but the gears worn out fast.
Thanks for watching and sharing
the rear end where the motor is located looks the same as a tamiya lunchbox/midnight pumpkin
Hi, so It’s not too far off actually. Thanks very much
That looks great! Was it even ran before you had it?
Brand spanking new, even had that smell. Enjoy the video
Imagine buying a rc car of this quality in a department/toy store now. If you ever checked out what the carry now they are awful. Such better times
Yeah those days are long past now. The quality has diminished for sure with the rc in department stores. Thank you 😊
It’s not easy to find a vintage rc in mint condition and still in the box I would love to get a brand new one and make some mods so it could keep up with today’s rc’s that go faster and run longer

I wanted the tyco turbo hopper so i got it and then saw this and thought it was superior but never got it
Yeah it’s superior. Thanks
Just subbed. Love the idea. So tired of seeing traxxas everywhere.
Thank you 🙏
How about doing a Nikko thunderbolt some time?
Absolutely 👍
LOOKS LIKE A JET HOPPER ! REMEMBER THEM ? ...
Thanks 😊
I have a couple of vintage r c cars
Very cool
Is it possible to upgrade the motor And transmitter?
Check my Radio Shack Golden Arrow videos.
Classic
Thanks
Tamiya Hornet!?
I’ve done a hornet on the channel-it’s the Toy Story rc build from Tamiya Hornet. Thanks
I had this
Thanks
No offence, but this is 95% Tamiya Grasshopper. How is fully ripping someone else off special??

You are a clicker...i can't stand next to someone that clicks the steering while running an RC. Drives me nuts! Lol, good video 👍
I think you mean a one handed clicker the other hand controls the camera. With a steering servo power of a 1985 Nikko product you’ll be mad at yourself too. 😂 Thanks.
That was my first real rc car
Very cool
Just because its old dont make it good. Boring car, toss it in the trash.
Guessing you were not an 80’s kid. 😆
Is this the same as the Bison/Rhino/Golden Arrow?
Thanks 😊
didnt nikko made those? had one in black
So the 1/10 version was not in black. Thanks
@@LukesVintageRC but the one from Nikko was? I swear it looked like the one in your vid
@@slitherixxx nikko made a smaller version in black not 1/10.
@@LukesVintageRC maybe it's that one I remember from my childhood, but still a fun rc car you got there :D
