I don’t think House felt guilt over what he said; he’s not the type of person to regret his words or actions. I do think he felt shame however. Shame about not noticing that Kutner was in a state that would cause him to do what he did, and House didn’t notice. House has a huge ego, but despite that I think he does actually care deeply for the people in his life, so the loss of someone in his life just hit him really hard and amplified that sense of shame. IMO.
Or you know, Kalpen Modi was given an Associate Director position in the White House under Barack Obama and thus his character had to be written out of the show immediately.

They could have had a distinct relationship towards the end, the writers could have explored their personal relationship more and their shared emotions of sadness and loss in their lives. He could have been a friend to House until later.
